As the three walked along, they suddenly realized that they hadn’t encountered any zombies for a long time, as if all the zombies in this area had vanished into thin air.

Continuing forward for a distance, the ground ahead was covered with severed limbs and scattered debris. Rancid meat and bloodstains were everywhere, filling the air with a stench so overwhelming it felt as though a gruesome, brutal battle had just taken place.

Fang Guohua had experienced much since the apocalypse, yet he had never witnessed such a scene—it looked like hell on earth, sending chills down his spine.Full novel: The Apocalypse Begins with Running a Hotel — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Grandpa, look!” Qian Lele pointed into the pile of rancid meat ahead, where something was glistening in the sunlight.

Fang Guohua looked closely and saw that it was actually a crystal core. Looking around further, numerous crystal cores were scattered about, completely uncollected.

“Xiaojun, Lele, let’s pick up the crystal cores together. Whenever you see one, put it in the bag. Keep holding hands and don’t separate, okay?!” Fang Guohua tucked the business card into Fang Xiaojun’s pocket, gave instructions to the two children, and then began gathering the crystal cores together.

The three walked along picking them up, gathering not only Level 1 crystal cores, but even several Level 2 ones as well!

After gathering for quite a while, not a single zombie popped out. They collected three full bags of crystal cores, making them immensely heavy, yet Fang Guohua didn’t feel the slightest bit tired. After drinking some water and taking a brief rest, Qian Lele and Fang Xiaojun each carried a bag containing clothes and food on their backs. Fang Guohua had the two stay close to his left and right as they continued forward.

When the Jiang father and son returned today, they saw that an extra television had been installed. After watching TV with their family for a while, they returned to their room to eat. Holding his father’s hand, Jiang Xun bounced along as he walked, talking loudly and giggling out loud, while the rest of the family burst into laughter along with him.

Seeing how happy they were, Xiyue thought to herself that this was truly lovely. Checking her watch, it was already past twelve o’clock, so she went over to draw a few blind boxes for lunch.

She prayed to draw rice today; with all the instant noodles and hotpots lately, she always felt unsatisfied after eating.

After a five-pull streak, she drew three buckets of braised chicken with mushroom instant noodles, one box of self-heating rice with stewed chicken and mushrooms, and one can of yellow peaches.

Unbelievable—her luck was truly unbelievable! For someone who disliked stewed chicken and hated mushrooms even more, drawing a hand like this made her a certified gacha anti-luck magnet!

Puffing out her cheeks, she proceeded with another five-pull. This time wasn’t bad: two boxes of self-heating rice with shredded pork in garlic sauce, one box of river snail rice noodles, one box of hot and sour noodles, and a can of luncheon meat.

Xiyue ate the shredded pork rice along with the luncheon meat, a look of utter satisfaction on her face. A true foodie! Indeed, eating good food was where the soul was!

After finishing lunch, she rubbed her stomach and looked at the delicious-looking can of yellow peaches on the table. I can do it! I can still fight! So she opened the can of yellow peaches, took a sip of the syrup first, and let out a long, satisfied sigh. In days without beverages, sweet syrup was enough to bring immense satisfaction!

Slurping down large chunks of yellow peach flesh while watching TV, she suddenly seemed to hear the sound of the revolving door turning. Xiyue turned her head to look—three people had walked in, one adult and two children.

The two kids clung to the adult’s legs on either side, staring intently at the yellow peach flesh near Xiyue’s lips and swallowing their saliva. The first time she saw Jiang Xun, Xiyue thought the child was terribly thin. But she hadn’t expected today’s arrivals to be so emaciated they were practically unrecognizable; the older child looked almost as thin as a sheet of paper that could be blown away by a gust of wind.

Seeing the three’s dry, peeling lips, Xiyue quickly motioned for them to sit down. She got up to pour three cups of water, watching the children’s throats swallow greedily. After a moment’s thought, she stood up, split the canned peaches into two cups, and handed them over.

“I ate from this just now, please don’t mind.”

“We don’t mind, we don’t mind at all. Thank you so much, truly thank you,” Fang Guohua repeated continuously, completely flustered. Looking at the luxurious hotel lobby, and then at the young woman before him with her fair skin and clean, neat clothes, it was as if the suffering of the apocalypse had never touched her.

After receiving their grandfather’s permission, the two children expressed their gratitude one after another and began cautiously savoring this rare delicacy.

“This is the Universe Hotel, right? May I ask how to check in?” Fang Guohua inquired.

Leading the three over to the machine to enter their information, Fang Guohua squatted down and asked Qian Lele, “Lele, do you want to stay together with Grandpa and Xiaojun, or should Grandpa book another room for you?”

“I don’t want to separate from Grandpa and little brother Xiaojun, is that okay? Grandpa, please don’t chase me away,” Qian Lele said cautiously, staring down at his toes, feeling extremely uneasy.

“Grandpa isn’t chasing you away. Grandpa was just asking if you’d be willing to live with Grandpa and your little brother. Of course it’s wonderful if you want to. From now on, Grandpa will take care of you and grow up together with your brother,” Fang Guohua gently patted Lele’s head.

“I want to stay with Grandpa and my brother forever! I don’t want to be separated at all!” Feeling the warmth, Qian Lele couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into tears.

Fang Guohua topped up all his crystal cores into the watch, instantly becoming immensely wealthy. After booking a double room and extending it for three months right away, he transferred 100 crystal cores to each of Xiaojun’s and Lele’s watches.

Even Xiyue found it extraordinary—a frail-looking old man with two skin-and-bones children turned out to be so wealthy. The four members of the Jiang family, which included two superpowered users, didn’t even have a tenth of his assets, let alone the fact that all three of these guests were ordinary humans. They clearly had quite a story behind them.

Noticing Xiyue’s astonished gaze, Fang Guohua smiled and recounted what had happened on their way here.

This truly was money falling from the sky! A mountain of zombies killed, with all the crystal cores left behind uncollected—it was utterly bizarre.

After enjoying the gossip, Xiyue introduced them to the blind box machine. Staring at the machine, the trio’s eyes sparkled with incredible brightness.

Fang Guohua drew ten times himself. Seeing the children eager to try, he let each of them draw ten times as well.

Qian Lele let Fang Xiaojun go first. Fang Xiaojun nervously pressed confirm, staring expectantly at the dispenser chute, praying silently in his heart.

The chute delivered food items one after another, until it dispensed an item packaged in a large pot. Xiyue gasped silently—these two kids were absolute kings of luck!

Sure enough, it was the super luxurious family-sized seafood noodles that had appeared once before—the luxurious hidden prize that the two brothers, Zhou Sheng and Su Chengkang, had failed to pull even after thousands of attempts. They really ought to see an gacha god pull an SSR on a single ten-pull; who knew if Zhou Sheng would cry himself unconscious in the bathroom.

As the three read the description on the image, Fang Xiaojun jumped up in delight, his small face flushing with excitement and his eyes shining brightly.

Qian Lele was also thrilled. Seeing his little brother pull such a great item, he prayed that he could pull something special as well. Watching from the side, Xiyue was equally excited; truth be told, she didn’t know if the seafood noodles were the only hidden prize. Once Qian Lele pressed confirm, the very first pull delivered an extraordinary delicacy—a ten-inch giant chocolate cake! In transparent packaging, through the cake box one could see delicious cherries adorning the top, looking exquisitely beautiful. In this desolate apocalyptic world, fruit was such a rare treasure, not to mention these cherries looked plump and massive—a delicacy she had never even possessed in her original world. As expected of a luxurious hidden prize produced by the system!

After four or five different self-heating rice hotpots came out in succession, another large pot emerged—even bigger than the previous one! Xiyue hurriedly craned her neck to look, her eyes widening in disbelief before she drew a sharp breath. With this terrifyingly overpowered gacha luck, he actually pulled a hotpot mega-bundle! The picture was filled with fresh, crisp vegetables of all kinds, as well as various meats and meatballs. Watching this, Xiyue couldn’t help sighing inwardly—the system was truly incredible, yet she herself was cursed with the fate of braised chicken with mushrooms.

Until the final item emerged—an exquisitely packaged fruit basket filled with over a dozen varieties of fruit! Xiyue was exhausted; she couldn’t process any more shock. She could no longer view this skin-and-bones child through normal eyes. Looking at him now, how was this an ordinary child?! This was clearly a golden gacha deity glowing with divine light! Picking up money on the road when low on cash—is that strange? Having meat, vegetables, and balanced nutrition for dinner—is that strange? Needing a sweet dessert after a meal to refresh the throat—is that strange? Taking a break to eat some fruit to fill the gaps—is that strange? Not strange at all, perfectly reasonable! Such was the life of a gacha god; even a machine for instant food could pull fresh fruits for you! I’ll remember you, Qian Lele, the unremarkable King of Luck! Thinking about it now, even this name radiated an extraordinary glow!

She couldn’t keep this juicy gossip to herself; if she ever saw Zhou Sheng again, she would definitely have to share it with him. The massive disparity between his thousands of pulls and someone else’s ten pulls was simply mind-blowing.

This family of three, containing two kings of luck—children truly were miraculous creatures!
