Xi Yue was in the middle of brainstorming what style of sweater to knit when the doorbell rang again with a double chime.

Walking over to open the door, she found the two brothers, Zhou Sheng and Su Chengkang, standing outside.

“Is something the matter? Don’t stand at the door, come inside to talk.” Xi Yue shifted to the side to let them into the room.Full novel: The Apocalypse Begins with Running a Hotel — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Xi Yue was wearing fluffy, cream-white pajamas with her hair draped loosely over her shoulders. Her skin was fair and translucent, and her clear, almond-shaped eyes gave her an obedient, adorable look.

After entering the room, the two sat down on the sofa. Compared to Zhou Sheng, who seemed a bit constrained being in a girl’s room for the first time, Su Chengkang appeared much more natural and stated his intention directly.

“I wanted to ask the hotel manager, is there a set limit on the blind boxes inside the machine downstairs? Can we buy them in bulk and resell them to others?”

Once Xi Yue received confirmation from the system, she replied, “Anyone who comes to the hotel to spend money is a customer. I can only guarantee that no matter how many you buy, I will have sufficient stock. As for where you use them after buying them, I won’t interfere with that.”

Understanding Xi Yue’s meaning, the two expressed their thanks, stood up, and took their leave.

“Brother, let’s head back to the base tomorrow and tell them the good news!”

Zhou Sheng was overjoyed. City C Base was considered one of the very best bases in the apocalypse. Their whole family held deep respect for military men like Base Commander Wang Li.

He had originally wanted to inform the base of this news yesterday, but his cousin Su Chengkang told him that without asking the hotel manager whether the hotel had enough supplies, it was better not to say anything, or it would all end up as empty joy in the end.

In truth, that was merely an excuse to stop Zhou Sheng.

With Su Chengkang’s shrewd nature, if he had wanted to say something, he would have asked Xi Yue about it at the hotel yesterday, yet he hadn’t. Furthermore, setting the blind box machines aside, the very existence of Xi Yue and the hotel was an incredible phenomenon. He simply did not want to inform the base through his own mouth.

“No need to go back. They should already be on their way.” Su Chengkang adjusted his glasses.

Yesterday, he sold off his supplies in huge quantities, so the higher-ups would definitely notice the difference in those goods.

Su Chengkang actually admired selfless people like Wang Li, who sacrificed everything for the country. But unlike Wang Li, he was a selfish man.

In this apocalypse, he only wanted to take good care of his family and live a decent life.

If he had notified the people in the base, and a conflict broke out between the hotel and the base in the future, how would his family handle themselves? The best solution was to let them discover it on their own.

“Why would they come here?” Zhou Sheng found it strange.

“We sold so much food and then left the base with our entire family today—the higher-ups will definitely investigate.” Su Chengkang looked at his somewhat naive cousin with a hint of helplessness.

“Oh, right! Then should we go downstairs and wait for them?”

“Wait for what? Do you know when they’re coming? Once they arrive, do they need you to entertain them? If you have time, why not return to your room to absorb crystal cores and reach Tier 5 sooner?”

“Alright, alright, then I’ll just head back to my room.”

Sitting on the sofa while knitting her sweater, Xi Yue guessed that Su Chengkang and his group were likely planning to resell the blind box contents. That was great; if they bought a lot, she would have a massive influx of gold coins. Maybe it would even attract more guests to check in!

Thinking about how she was about to become rich, Xi Yue felt blissful.

Downstairs, because Shen Yu had attached his spiritual power near the door of the room, he discovered that someone had visited Xi Yue and even stepped inside.

He felt restless, wanting to know who was looking for Xi Yue so late at night and why they had gone inside.

Due to certain experiences, Shen Yu had developed a touch of paranoia. He didn’t want the room to be tainted by any aura other than his own and Xi Yue’s.

Shen Yu gripped the book in his hand tightly, his eyes turning cold as a violent, dark aura surged through him.

As soon as nine o’clock arrived, Shen Yu returned upstairs.

The moment he entered, he saw Xi Yue sitting on the sofa, holding yarn and knitting something in her hands.

“You’re back! Did any customers come?” Xi Yue asked without even lifting her head.

“No. What are you knitting?” Shen Yu sat down beside Xi Yue.

“Knitting a sweater! The weather’s getting cold, so I plan to knit some sweaters and scarves. Touch it—doesn’t this yarn feel super soft?”

“Oh, right! Zhou Sheng and Su Chengkang came to see me earlier. It seems they intend to resell the items from the blind boxes. You probably haven’t met them before. When they came earlier, they bought several thousand gold coins’ worth of blind boxes. Then that Su Chengkang guy turns out to be a space-element user, so they put all the blind boxes into his spatial ring and left.”

“When you went out this morning, they brought their whole family over. By the time you came back, they had returned to their rooms, so you didn’t run into each other. Do you know what the funniest part is?! I saw them buy thousands of blind boxes earlier, yet not a single hidden item dropped! Today, their family bought a bunch more, and still nothing!”

“Hahaha, maybe they don’t even know that hidden items exist up until now.” The more Xi Yue spoke, the funnier she found it.

Shen Yu toyed with the ball of yarn in his hand while watching Xi Yue curled up into a small bundle on the sofa. Her hands worked rapidly on the sweater while her mouth chattered away nonstop, growing more excited as she spoke.

The dark, violent aura lingering in his heart gradually dissipated, and his gaze softened.

“It really is very soft. A scarf knitted from this would definitely feel wonderful to wear, and it’s bound to keep you warm in the winter.”

“Of course it’ll be comfortable and warm! Besides, I know a lot of different patterns, so whatever I knit will turn out pretty!” Xi Yue said with a hint of pride.

Shen Yu had deliberately mentioned a scarf instead of a sweater, as if subtly hinting at something, but unfortunately, Xi Yue failed to catch on~

“I smell like hot pot. I’m going to take a shower first.”

“Go ahead, go ahead! I’ll wait for you to come back so we can eat cake.”

When Shen Yu came out from his shower, he was wearing clothes similar to Xi Yue’s.

“Wow, Shen Yu, you look so cute like this—so soft and delicate! It’s just that your hair is getting a bit long. Tomorrow I’ll issue a task to find a hairstylist. Someone as good-looking as you has to be matched with the handsomest haircut.”

“Why don’t you cut it for me? I actually don’t like other people touching my hair. Even if you mess it up, it won’t matter.” Shen Yu lowered his head and pursed his lips, speaking in a pitiful tone, almost as if he were pouting.

Who could resist Shen Yu when he was pouting so softly?

Xi Yue certainly couldn’t.

She put down her yarn and carefully selected haircutting tools from the system mall.

Shen Yu moved a chair into the bathroom, wrapped a cape around himself, and sat down on the chair.

Xi Yue held the scissors, gesturing this way and that around his head, unsure of how to start.

“It’s fine, just cut however you want. You said yourself that I’m good-looking—even if you don’t cut it well, I won’t look ugly.”

Xi Yue thought about it and realized he made sense. People who looked good still looked good even if they went bald!

Of course, she didn’t actually intend to cut him bald.

Pinching a lock of hair above his forehead, she hardened her heart and snapped the scissors shut with a clack.

After making that first cut, her subsequent movements became much more decisive, cutting in circles with Shen Yu as the center.

Snip after snip resounded until his exquisite eyebrows and eyes were finally revealed.

When she finished, Xi Yue wiped away the stray hairs, looking him up and down before letting out a relieved smile.

“My skills are actually pretty great! Of course, it’s also thanks to your handsome face~”

“This is my first time cutting someone’s hair—I have to record this!”

After a quick search through the system mall, Xi Yue bought a Polaroid camera.
