As soon as the four set foot inside the hotel, they began observing their surroundings; the zombies that had pursued them to the doorway actually drifted away on their own, as if they had lost their target.

The hotel was illuminated bright as day, with lights glowing along the paths and even around the fountain.

Stepping out of the vehicle, they noticed two people standing near the doorway, both wearing matching beige plush outfits.Full novel: The Apocalypse Begins with Running a Hotel — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

They possessed striking looks and appeared quite young.

Cheng Shangyun noticed that when the girl in front looked at their leader, the expression on the young man beside her soured immediately.

As expected, a young couple wearing matching outfits~

Xi Yue welcomed the guests inside. Walking behind her, Shen Yu looked at their attire, his gaze icy cold.

“Holy crap, he gave me one glance just now and my legs almost went soft,” Cheng Shangyun muttered, feeling a bit shaken.

“Me too! How terrifying was that…” the big guy Wu Zhongda chimed in.

Qin Yu narrowed his eyes without saying a word, stepping inside as the other three quickly followed suit.

The interior of the hotel was splendid and magnificent, with a faint aroma wafting through the air.

“If you want to check in, you can register here with me, or have Shen Yu guide you through the self-service machine,” Xi Yue said, pointing toward Shen Yu, who stood by the self-service check-in and top-up machine.

“I…” Cheng Shangyun originally wanted to say he would go to her, but the moment he opened his mouth, he saw Shen Yu cast a calm, indifferent glance in his direction.

“We won’t trouble you, self-service is great, hahaha…” After a couple of dry laughs, Cheng Shangyun wisely dragged Wang Cheng and Wu Zhongda over to Shen Yu’s side.

“Press the screen, enter your information, select the room type, top up here, and put your crystal cores inside,” Shen Yu instructed concisely, pointing to the slot on the side of the machine.

Cheng Shangyun began operating it according to Shen Yu’s instructions when suddenly, he felt the person standing beside him radiating a bone-chilling cold air.

Following his line of sight, he saw that his own leader had somehow strolled over to the front desk and was already chatting with the young lady.

Taking out a self-heating rice meal from his spatial ring, Qin Yu asked, “From here?”

Xi Yue nodded and pointed to the two machines directly facing the front desk. “Those are blind box machines. Once you finish checking in, you can buy from them. It’s one crystal core per try.”

“Registration, please. Thank you.”

After Qin Yu finished registering, he turned around only to meet the resentment-filled gazes of his three brothers.

“You can handle the rest yourselves, we’re going upstairs to rest.” Shen Yu walked into the front desk area, took Xi Yue by the wrist, and led her away.

“Boss, while you were checking in over there, we were practically freezing to death over here,” Cheng Shangyun said glumly…

“That guy named Shen Yu is at least a Tier-7 mental-element user. When he looked at me at the door earlier, I couldn’t move for a second. As for that girl, I tried to test her just now, but the moment I thought about using my ability, it was suppressed. She might be even stronger than Shen Yu,” Qin Yu noted with a trace of apprehension.

“Everything here is completely mind-boggling. It isolates zombies, provides electricity, gives everyone who checks in a smartwatch, and offers all these recently manufactured foods—this obviously isn’t something abilities can accomplish. Most importantly, its prices are frighteningly low,” Cheng Shangyun mused as he stared at the watch on his wrist.

“Why overthink it? As long as it fills the bellies of the people back at our base, it’s better than anything else.”

“Besides, the boss went over to talk to the guy’s girlfriend, and he didn’t even beat us up. He’s already plenty friendly,” Wu Zhongda said carelessly. Although he wasn’t particularly sharp, he simply felt this couple harbored no malice.

“This kind of fruit tea only costs one crystal core!” Wang Cheng, who had quietly walked over to the beverage blind box machine, was utterly stunned.

“I want one too!”

“I’m thirsty too!” Cheng Shangyun and Wu Zhongda hurriedly rushed over to make purchases.

“What is this? Longan, red date, and brown sugar water? A big guy like me is supposed to drink this stuff?” Wu Zhongda expressed deep confusion over his own luck.

“Don’t say that, it actually tastes pretty good, and my stomach warmed right up, hehe.” Even while voicing his disdain, he honestly found it delicious.

After all, water sources were precious in the apocalypse, and water mixed with sugar, longan, and red dates was even harder to come by; who would actually turn their nose up at it?

“Buy a hundred cups to store away, and use the rest to buy food. We’ll head back first thing tomorrow morning,” Qin Yu instructed. Though he appeared cold and distant, he couldn’t resist the temptation either, pulling a cup of latte to sip on.

Meanwhile, Shen Yu and Xi Yue returned to her room, his hand still holding her wrist.

Xi Yue looked down at it, and only then did Shen Yu hastily let go.

“What’s wrong? You didn’t seem very happy to see them?” Xi Yue sensed that Shen Yu’s mood was a bit off.

“It’s nothing. We came downstairs in pajamas, so it’s better to keep a distance from them. It wouldn’t be good if we picked up any dirt or germs.”

Seeing them reminded Shen Yu of the past, but he didn’t know how to explain it to Xi Yue.

That past wasn’t pleasant to hear, and it might frighten her.

“That won’t happen, don’t worry. Whether it’s zombies or viruses, none of it can get inside. You were pulling such a grim face just now, I thought something had happened to you,” Xi Yue said, shaking her head with a smile.

“Don’t worry, if anything comes up next time, I’ll definitely tell you.” Feeling Xi Yue’s concern, Shen Yu felt much more at ease.

After bidding each other goodnight, they went to their respective rooms to sleep.

Returning to his room, Shen Yu didn’t turn on the light. He sat by the edge of the bed, sinking entirely into the darkness.

Military background…

Hypocritical and disgusting…

After a long silence, he turned on the lamp and pulled strawberry seeds out from his spatial ring.

The seeds floated in his palm and sprouted into strawberry seedlings. They quickly bloomed and bore fruit; the berries grew larger and more plentiful, finally turning an enticing shade of red.

Plucking the strawberries and setting them on a plate, he repeated the process over again. A sweet, rich strawberry aroma gradually filled the room.

As the early autumn sunlight streamed into the room, Xi Yue rolled over and opened her bleary eyes.

Rubbing her eyes to wake up, she sat up straight against the headboard and opened the system mall.

Every time she opened the mall, a prompt interface would pop up first:

【Self-Service Instant Food Blind Box Machine: 1,000 Gold Coins

Self-Service Check-In & Top-Up Machine: 1,000 Gold Coins

Self-Service Beverage Blind Box Machine: 1,000 Gold Coins

Never-Waste Fertile Soil (1 Acre): 10,000 Gold Coins

Gene Modification Serum: 10,000 Gold Coins

Gene Modification Serum: 10,000 Gold Coins】

Aside from the top items, yesterday’s crystal core exchange machine and card blind box machine were gone.

“System, does this refresh every day?”

【Yes.】

“Then does the ‘Yellow Millet Dream’ item you mentioned yesterday refresh here too?”

【Yes.】

Xi Yue had thought it would randomly appear among the general mall inventory, which had an overwhelming array of items she had planned to spend all morning scrolling through.

This layout was wonderful—she could see everything at a glance and even catch a second nap.

Glancing at her balance with a smile, she suddenly snapped wide awake, nearly leaping out of bed.

【Balance: 43,233 Gold Coins】

She quickly checked Rooms 4012 and 4011, where the four guests had stayed yesterday; as expected, they were now marked vacant.

Good grief, the people who came last night were absolute patron saints of wealth! They actually spent over four hundred thousand Tier-1 crystal cores in a single night!

Staring at the balance, Xi Yue hugged her blanket and giggled foolishly to herself.

Reopening the system mall, she didn’t hesitate to order a self-service instant food blind box machine and a self-service check-in & top-up machine.

Then, she looked at the Gene Modification Serums, her heart throbbing with anticipation…
