My espresso hadn't even hit the mahogany before Kyle’s stolen drive started shrieking like a scalded banshee.

Not a cute metaphor. An actual, ear-splitting, electronic death-rattle.

A blood-red hologram detonated into the air above our half-eaten croissants, bathing the French bistro in crimson panic: UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED.Full novel: The Assassin with super powers — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Kyle’s suave smirk melted off his face.

He flipped the drive, fingers flying. “That’s impossible.”

“You swore the server was scrubbed clean,” the other Tiara growled, her ruby eyes blazing.

Kyle threw his hands up. “It was! I wiped every trace of us!”

“Clearly not,” she snapped, setting her heavy street-sweeper shotgun onto the bistro table with a loud thud.

“Alright, settle down, Echo,” I warned softly, setting my espresso down with terrifying slowness.

She turned her glare on me, her grip tightening on the shotgun stock. “We agreed you wouldn't call me that.”

“We agreed having two people answer to 'Tiara' in the middle of a live fireteam is an operational hazard,” I countered coolly. “Unless you want to switch to 'Tiara Two'?”

Kyle winced. “Oof. Sounds like a budget sequel.”

“Look at you,” Lyra chimed in around a bite of pastry, gesturing between the two of us. “Same face, same deadly reflexes, just slightly different trauma. You’re literally a spatial reverberation of the original blueprint. An echo. Deal with it.”

“It’s a tactical designation, not a personal insult,” I added. “Besides, it fits.”

Echo scoffed, rolling her eyes, but she didn't point the gun at me. “Fine. But if we survive this, I’m picking your nickname next.”

“Fair enough,” I said. “Now, Kyle. What, precisely, did you download?”

“Everything,” Kyle muttered.

“Be specific.”

“A very chunky everything!”

The hologram violently mutated. A sprawling map of North America materialized, flickering with seven pulsing red nodes. Then six went dark. Then five.

Kyle’s jaw set into stone. “Someone’s wiping the sister facilities. Remotely.”

“Why?”

He zoomed in on the lone survivor.

SITE N-01 — ACTIVE [COLORADO, USA]

ANOMALIES DETECTED: 63

Lyra dropped her croissant. “Sixty-three? That’s more than every European black-site combined.”

“That’s not a prison,” Echo spat, her hands tightening on her weapon.

“No,” I purred, my assassin instincts instantly stringing the dark logic together. “It’s a butcher’s vault.”

“For what?” Kyle whispered.

“For us.”

The map flickered, bleeding new text: RECLAMATION PROTOCOL: SITE N-01. PURGE COMMENCING.

My chair shrieked against the floorboards as I stood. “Next stop, Colorado.”

Lyra was up in a heartbeat, racking her slide. Kyle groaned, snatching a last pastry. “I knew I should’ve ordered breakfast to go.”

“You’re stress-eating before a suicide run?”

“Trauma burns calories, Tiara!”

“He’s got a point,” Echo muttered.

Before I could answer, the café went dead quiet. My spatial awareness exploded outward like an expanding shockwave. Paris lit up in my mind—streets, spines, heartbeat after heartbeat. And then, a horrific, unnatural tear in the fabric of reality right behind my retinas.

Something was watching us through the dimension itself.

“Kyle,” I hissed, the hairs on my arms standing up. “Kill the feed.”

“Why—”

“Kill it!”

The map snapped to black, but the device didn't die. A crisp, smooth male voice bled straight through the fried circuit board. Dripping with amused malice.

“You really should have stayed in Paris.”

We froze.

“You slaughtered Vance. Erased Walser. Plundered our sacred archives. Impressive.” A soft chuckle chilled the air. “I am the one who remembers every anomaly the Reclamation erased. And you... you are the glitch we were warned about.”

Echo was already drawing steel.

“You aren't the first Tiara Carter,” the voice purred.

My blood ran instantly to ice. Echo snapped, “What did you say?”

“You aren't the second, either. There have been seventeen.”

My spatial energy erupted, cracking the surrounding windowpanes.

“Seventeen iterations of you,” he mocked. “Seventeen failures to recreate the apex weapon.”

“And how many lived?” Echo demanded, her voice dripping venom.

“Zero.”

I bared my teeth. “Then you’ve never met us.”

“Correct.”

The drive flared bright white: SITE N-01 HAS ACQUIRED TARGETS. WELCOME HOME.

“Frag!” Kyle bellowed, yeeting the drive through the plate-glass window.

BOOM.

The device detonated mid-air, ripping a shockwave of violent blue electromagnetic force across the street. Car alarms shrieked; glass rained like confetti. I yanked Kyle by the collar, throwing him behind a heavy stone pillar as Lyra hit the deck beside us.

Kyle blinked through the dust. “Breakfast is definitely non-refundable.”

Outside, three matte-black SUVs skidded to a halt. Doors flew open. Out stepped figures wrapped in featureless, light-absorbing armor. No badges. No insignia. No hesitation.

Cold-blooded professionals.

The lead operator raised a hand. Every streetlamp on the block imploded, plunging us into shadow.

My smile returned, sharp as a razor. “Oh, good.”

I stepped through the shattered storefront. Kyle fell in at my hip; Lyra cracked her neck; Echo slammed a fresh mag into her street-sweeper.

The armored host multiplied—twelve, sixteen, thirty. But my instincts screamed a warning. Distraction.

I threw my head back. Overhead, the clouds parted for a terrifying, wingless leviathan of a ship. Space literally buckled around its hull, bending light like a black hole.

They weren't just traveling. They were folding reality. They had weaponized my own core affinity.

The unseen speaker’s voice bellowed from every PA system in Paris: “Let us see how the apex predators bleed.”

The warship opened its belly, raining down hundreds of killer drones. Red targeting grids painted the pavement.

Echo raised her barrel, grinning wild. “Stop counting.”

I took a single step forward and unleashed my sovereign aura.

CRACK.

Every window in a three-block radius shattered inward. The street split beneath my boots. Silver spatial rifts whirred around my wrists as my thermal engine ignited. Deep inside my soul, an ancient, dormant god opened its eyes.

The entire swarm froze. Every laser snapped away from the team, locking directly onto my chest.

Kyle winced. “Uh, boss? You got their attention.”

“I noticed.”

The warship’s main bay hissed open, and a single man floated down through the gloom. Silver hair, tailored black trench coat, no armor. He touched the cracked asphalt silently, locked his pale eyes onto mine, and grinned.

“Seventeen lifetimes,” he whispered. “Worth the wait.”

“Get in line, sunshine,” I snarled.

He snapped his fingers—and the city block ceased to exist.

No explosion. No light. Just absolute erasure.

Paris vanished. Reality collapsed. We fell—not down, but sideways, ripped through dimensions at breakneck speed. Kyle screamed; Lyra grabbed my coat; Echo reached out—but my spatial anchors tore apart like paper.

“Welcome to Site N-01,” the voice echoed through the cosmic void.

Light violently slammed back into existence.

We crashed onto cracked dirt beneath a sky the color of fresh arterial blood. Behind us, the dimensional rift sealed with a concussive snap.

Ahead of us loomed a gargantuan fortress carved straight into the heart of a jagged mountain range. Thousands of armored soldiers stood in parade formation before massive blast doors, over which burned a terrifying crest: a golden eye encased in seventeen concentric rings.

Kyle stared up at the fortress, pale. “This isn't the Reclamation.”

“No,” I rasped, the horrifying truth settling into my bones. “The Reclamation was just the funnel. The screening process.”

The blast doors groaned, parting to reveal a woman bathed in crimson spotlight. She didn't raise a weapon. She just stared at me—and then at Echo—with pure, unadulterated ecstasy.

“Welcome home, Tiaras,” she purred. “We’ve been trying to resurrect the Prime for a century.”

My hands curled into fists, silver energy sparking across my knuckles. “Prime what?”

She smiled, cold and triumphant. “The First Assassin. And you two are carrying her corpse in your veins.”

The blast doors slammed shut behind us, locking us in the mountain’s belly.

Kyle raised his rifle. Lyra flexed her claws. Echo met my eyes and smirked, racking her shotgun.

I let out a low, dangerous laugh. “Looks like we’re gonna need a bigger hostile takeover.”

Deep beneath the bedrock, something ancient answered with a thunderous heartbeat.
