“Wen Xin! Who told you to speak about your sister-in-law like that? Apologize to Wanwan immediately!”

Old Master Wen’s brows shot up as he scolded her sharply.

Wen Xin stomped her foot and cried out in grievance, “I didn’t say anything wrong! Grandpa, Mu Wanwan just sweet-talks you so she can marry into our family.Full novel: The Beautiful Ex-Wife Is Too Alluring; The Cold-Faced Military Officer Begs for Remarriage — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

I’m your real granddaughter! Why do you always take her side?”

Old Master Wen used to dote on her. But ever since Mu Wanwan was brought into the family, his favorite had become Wanwan.

That was another reason Wen Xin disliked her.

“Be quiet! You’re becoming more and more unreasonable. All these years for nothing!”

Old Master Wen was genuinely angry. His granddaughter had been spoiled since childhood and now couldn’t tell right from wrong.

Especially these past few years, she had been spending too much time with that Lin Huiru. That girl had plenty of schemes, and his granddaughter was so simple-minded she wouldn’t even know if she’d been sold off.

Wen Xin bit her lip, her eyes reddening with grievance. She instinctively glanced at the woman beside her.

Song Meijuan’s expression remained indifferent, as though nothing interested her—not even her daughter’s distress.

Old Master Wen sighed. Ever since his son passed away, his daughter-in-law had shut herself off, locking herself in her room all day. He truly didn’t know what to say anymore.

“Mu Wanwan, are you satisfied seeing Grandpa scold me? Don’t think that just because you’ve pleased him you’re part of our family. I will never acknowledge you as my sister-in-law!”

Feeling humiliated, Wen Xin turned and ran out of the hospital room.

Song Meijuan stood as well. “Dad, I’ll head back first. I’ll visit again tomorrow.”

She nodded at Wen Lin before leaving.

Old Master Wen then looked at Mu Wanwan, his tone softening.

“Wanwan, don’t take Wen Xin’s words to heart. She’s not malicious—just a little temperamental at times. Don’t stoop to her level.

If she dares bully you, tell me. I’ll discipline her properly.”

“Alright, Grandpa.”

Warmth spread through Mu Wanwan’s heart.

Old Master Wen truly treated her like his own granddaughter, always standing up for her.

“I’m already this old. Who knows how much longer I’ll live? The doctor says the surgery carries risks.

My greatest wish now is to see you and Wen Lin live well together. As long as you young couple are happy, I’ll be content.

It’d be even better if you gave me a great-grandchild soon—that would make me overjoyed!”

Imagining himself holding a great-grandson, his face lit up with unmistakable joy.

Mu Wanwan felt conflicted.

She had planned to find an opportunity in the coming days to talk to him about divorcing Wen Lin.

But now it seemed impossible. His surgery wasn’t until next month. What if this matter affected his mood and delayed his treatment?

“Wen Lin, treat Wanwan well. You’re not allowed to let her suffer any grievances, do you hear me?”

Old Master Wen didn’t forget to warn his grandson.

Wen Lin subconsciously glanced at Mu Wanwan. It seemed the divorce couldn’t be mentioned for now. If it angered the old man before surgery, the consequences would be serious.

In front of him, he could only nod.

They stayed a while longer until Old Master Wen grew tired and needed rest.

The hospital had staff monitoring his condition, and he even had his own orderly, so there was no need for someone to stay constantly.

As they walked out, Wen Lin spoke first.

“Let’s not tell Grandpa about our divorce for now. At least wait until after his surgery.”

Mu Wanwan nodded in agreement. “We should keep it from him temporarily. But once the divorce report is approved, we can complete the formalities first. In front of Grandpa, we’ll just act the part.”

It would technically be acting first and informing later—but she was confident she could persuade him.

Her marriage to Wen Lin had been a mistake from the beginning. The sooner it ended, the better.

Wen Lin froze. He hadn’t expected Mu Wanwan to still be so determined to divorce—and so eager.

A hollow feeling rose in his chest. Was she truly serious? Hadn’t she proposed divorce in anger?

Mu Wanwan didn’t notice the complex look on his face. She was already thinking about how to care for Old Master Wen during this period.

His illness was related to his stomach, so his diet required special attention. In her previous life, she had studied many recipes for Wen Lin, including nourishing medicinal dishes.

She could make more for Old Master Wen to build up his strength before surgery.

In the blink of an eye, several days passed. Wen Lin’s marriage leave ended, and he returned to the military.

With him gone, Mu Wanwan felt much freer. Her days were fulfilling, and she had already saved nearly a hundred yuan. With a bit more, she could buy a small house in the capital.

Once she divorced Wen Lin, she could move out immediately and focus entirely on her career.

That day, after delivering food to Old Master Wen at the hospital, she went to the old family residence.

It was Song Meijuan’s birthday. Though she and Wen Lin hadn’t divorced yet, as a daughter-in-law she should still make an appearance.

To be fair, Song Meijuan had treated her decently. She wasn’t warm, but she had never looked down on her for coming from the countryside.

Mu Wanwan had prepared a handmade qipao as a gift. Though in her forties, Song Meijuan maintained a graceful figure and carried a classical beauty—perfect for wearing one.

When she arrived at the Wen residence, Wen Xin and Lin Huiru were there, chatting happily.

The moment Wen Xin saw her, her smile vanished. She snorted and turned away.

Lin Huiru, however, smiled at Mu Wanwan.

Ignoring them, Mu Wanwan walked to Song Meijuan, handed over the gift, and offered her birthday wishes.

Song Meijuan revealed a faint smile and thanked her.

“Mom, Sister Huiru bought you a gift too!” Wen Xin said deliberately. “She heard you haven’t had much appetite lately, so she lined up to buy braised goods from Ke Lai Ju!

They’re incredibly popular these days—everyone’s scrambling to buy them. Lots of people can’t even get any. Sister Huiru queued for ages!”

Seeing Mu Wanwan hand over what looked like a cheap paper box, Wen Xin assumed it was something inexpensive and carelessly chosen.

So she emphasized how thoughtful Lin Huiru had been.

Song Meijuan merely nodded faintly in thanks.

Mu Wanwan, however, found it amusing.

Wasn’t the braised goods from Ke Lai Ju supplied by her?
