The pig farm was located in a rather remote area. Huzi led Mu Wanwan along quite a long stretch of road before they arrived.
Even from a distance, she could already smell the stench, mixed with a faint scent of blood.
Huzi ran ahead and knocked on the gate.
“Brother Tiezhu! I brought someone to buy pork—open up!”
The door opened quickly, and a burly man stepped out.
“Brother Tiezhu, this sister wants to buy pork, so I brought her here,” Huzi introduced.
Wang Tiezhu glanced at Mu Wanwan before stepping aside to let them in.
Several tables were set up in the yard, each holding freshly slaughtered pigs.
“How much do you want? What cut?” he asked, taking the initiative since she had been brought by Huzi.
“I want pork offal. Give me twenty jin.”
Her words startled Wang Tiezhu. Twenty jin of offal?
Hardly anyone bought that stuff. Even though it counted as meat, it was all internal organs. No matter how thoroughly you washed them, there was still a lingering smell, and the taste wasn’t great.
It was cheap, yet still hard to sell. And she not only wanted it—she wanted twenty jin at once.
The corner of his mouth twitched. “Miss, you’re not joking with me, are you?”
“Of course not. And I’ll need twenty jin every day from now on, so you’ll have to give me a better price.”
“Every day?”
He was even more shocked. But she looked completely serious.
He didn’t quite understand, but business was business—no reason to turn money away.
“Alright. My pork is cheaper than the public supply store—seven mao per jin. I usually sell offal for four mao, but if you really buy twenty jin every day, I’ll give it to you for three.”
The price was even lower than Mu Wanwan had expected. That meant a bigger profit margin for her braised goods.
After negotiating a bit more, she arranged for Huzi to deliver the offal to her house daily for a small delivery fee. That would save her a lot of time.
Huzi was overjoyed. His grandmother was spending heavily on medicine—any extra income helped.
After paying for the offal, Mu Wanwan had spent every last cent she had.
Huzi helped deliver both the fabric and the offal to her house and took note of the location.
Once home, she immediately began cleaning the offal. Pig intestines were the most troublesome to wash. It took her a long time to finish.
After a simple lunch, she used the newly bought fabric to make herself some underclothes.
With a sewing machine at home, it didn’t take long. After finishing, she tried them on. The fabric was light and silky—very comfortable.
The weather was hot, so this kind of close-fitting clothing felt much better. Since she had plenty of fabric, she even made herself a slip dress and wore it to take a nap.
She hadn’t stopped moving since morning and was truly exhausted. The moment her head touched the pillow, she fell into a deep sleep—unaware that a thunderstorm had started outside.
Wen Lin returned home drenched in rain. After dropping Wen Xin off at the old residence, he came back.
Seeing the rain grow heavier and the wind pick up, he quickly shut the living room windows.
Just as he was about to head to his bedroom to change, he glanced instinctively at the guest room opposite.
The door wasn’t fully closed. Through the narrow crack, he saw a slender figure lying on the bed and curtains billowing in the wind.
After hesitating, Wen Lin pushed the door open and stepped inside.
With the wind this strong, she might catch a headache, and rain could blow in through the open window.
He closed the window, then turned to look at the woman on the bed. Only then did he notice that Mu Wanwan’s face was covered in sweat, her brows tightly furrowed.
Looking closely, he could see her body trembling slightly. She was clearly having a nightmare.
Concern flickered in his eyes. He walked to the bedside and reached out to wake her.
Suddenly, Mu Wanwan grabbed his arm, a soft sob escaping her lips.
Tears slid down from the corners of her eyes, tightening something inexplicable in Wen Lin’s chest.
To make matters worse, she was holding his arm tightly. His hand was pressed against the soft curve of her chest.
Through the thin layer of fabric, he could clearly feel the shape beneath.
The neckline of her pink slip dress was low, and from his angle he could faintly glimpse the pale skin hidden within.
A rush of heat surged through his body.
Damn it. He was still wet from the rain, yet he felt burning hot.
Just as he stood there at a loss, Mu Wanwan rubbed her face against his arm, then shifted onto her back, finally releasing him.
He quickly pulled his hand back. From the corner of his eye, he caught sight of her long legs extending from beneath the pink hem—and hurried out of the room.
Shaking his head, he changed into dry clothes and lay down to sleep.
Unfortunately, he ended up dreaming about Mu Wanwan.
In the dream, she wore the same pink slip dress. Her slender, fair arms wrapped tightly around his neck.
Her soft body pressed against him, rubbing against him as he burned like a ball of fire.
She was like a temptress, wrapping herself around him until he could no longer endure it. He lifted her and threw her onto the bed, his body pressing down over hers—
When Wen Lin woke from his nap, his expression was dark.
He had actually thought about doing that to Mu Wanwan! He must have been out of his mind. It was just a dream.
He quickly changed his pants and washed the clothes he had taken off.
It was still raining outside, the sky dark and heavy. Hearing movement in the kitchen, he walked over.
Mu Wanwan was busy cooking. After waking, she had gone straight to prepare the braised dishes and dinner.
“Need any help?” Wen Lin asked.
“No.”
She didn’t even turn around. Her tone was cold, as if he didn’t exist.
Still, Wen Lin squeezed into the kitchen. After a moment’s hesitation, he said, “I’ve clarified what happened this morning.
You really shouldn’t have hit Xiaoru. Her health isn’t good, and there’s no need for you to be angry because of her.
Her brother died saving me. I promised him I’d take good care of her. In my heart, she’s the same as Wen Xin. Don’t misunderstand. And I hope you won’t target her again.”
Mu Wanwan’s change had started on their wedding night. Wen Lin was convinced she was angry because he had left for the hospital that night—and that this was why she was picking on Lin Huiru.
Hearing this, Mu Wanwan felt stifled.
She turned and looked at him coldly.
“What does her poor health have to do with me? I’ve said it before—she’d better not provoke me, or I won’t let her off easily.
I don’t care what your relationship is. If you’re really worried about her, then tell her to stay away from me.
And you—”
Her voice rose sharply.
“—you’d better stay away from me too!”
