Mei rushed into the bathroom, barely making it to the sink before she threw up everything she had eaten the previous night.

She gripped the edge of the sink tightly, breathing heavily as another wave of nausea washed over her.

Only after several moments did the uncomfortable feeling gradually fade.Full novel: The Billionaire’s Abandoned Bride — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She rinsed her mouth and slowly lifted her head, staring at her pale reflection in the mirror.

Over the past few weeks, she had been feeling unusually weak.

She was constantly sleepy, exhausted and lacked the energy she once had.

At first, she had dismissed it as fatigue, thinking she had neglected her health for too long, but the symptoms refused to disappear.

As a doctor, she already knew what they could mean.

Her hand unconsciously rested against her lower abdomen.

She needed to go to the hospital and confirm it.

“What’s wrong, Mei?” Aunt Momo’s worried voice sounded from outside the bathroom as she hurried over.

She had heard Mei vomiting and immediately came to check on her.

“I’m alright,” Mei replied, forcing a smile as she accepted the tissue Aunt Momo handed her.

“You’ve been looking weak these past few days,” Aunt Momo said gently.

“You might be pregnant. Go to the hospital and let them examine you properly.”

Mei lowered her eyes, instinctively placing a hand on her abdomen once more.

She had been thinking the same thing for days now, but she did not want to jump to conclusions until everything had been confirmed.

Handing her a tissue to wipe her mouth, Aunt Momo smiled warmly, she was genuinely happy.

At last, there would be little feet running happily around the villa.

There was only one thing bothering her.

Ever since they got married, Mei and Lucian had been sleeping in separate rooms.

So how had Mei become pregnant?

The thought lingered in her mind for a moment before she shook her head.

It was not her place to interfere in the lives of a husband and wife.

Whatever happened between them was their own business, and she quietly kept her curiosity to herself.

“What are you doing?”

Mei answered the call the moment her phone rang.

It was Lucian.

Over the past few weeks, he had been unknowingly caring for her.

Perhaps he had not even realised it himself, but Mei noticed every little change.

He invited her out occasionally, accompanied her to meals and, although his expression remained as cold as ever, he no longer ignored her completely. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.

Little by little, his walls seemed to be lowering.

Now she was carrying his child, and for the first time, she allowed herself to hope that perhaps this baby would bring them even closer.

“Nothing really,” Mei replied softly.

“Get dressed before eight tonight. We’re attending a ball.”

Lucian ended the call immediately after speaking.

His tone was still indifferent, but compared to before, it had softened ever so slightly.

Even that small change was enough to make Mei smile.

Suddenly, she remembered Grandma Li.

The past few weeks had been so filled with unexpected events that she had not visited her even once.

She missed her terribly and decided she would go today.

Mei quickly changed her clothes before walking out of the villa.

“Where are you going, Mei?” Aunt Momo called after her.

“I’m going to visit my grandmother,” Mei replied as she straightened the folds of her white floral dress.

Her hair was tied neatly into a ponytail, making her already delicate features appear even softer.

Combined with her slender figure, she looked gentle enough to make anyone instinctively want to protect her.

“Why don’t you take Young Master’s car? One of his guards can drive you.”

Mei immediately shook her head.

“No, it’s alright, Aunt Momo. I’d rather go by myself.”

She had never liked people following her around.

Being escorted everywhere made her feel uncomfortable, and knowing they were Lucian’s men only made it worse.

It felt as though he intended to keep his eyes on her at all times, every movement quietly watched without her knowing.

That sense of being constantly observed made her extremely uncomfortable, so she would much rather go alone.

“Remember to have your health checked as well,” Aunt Momo reminded her with a knowing smile.

“I will.”

“Alright then. Be careful.”

Mei smiled, waved goodbye and hurried towards the main road to hail a taxi.

“Take me to the countryside,” she told the driver.

A moment later, she suddenly remembered the herbs Grandma Li needed.

“Actually, take me to Jade Spring Pharmacy first.”

She had barely spent any of it, so there was still enough left in her account.

Although it would not be enough to purchase all of Grandma Li’s medicine at once, she could at least buy part of it today and slowly gather the rest.

Jade Spring Pharmacy.

As soon as Mei stepped inside, a familiar feeling washed over her.

Everything looked exactly the same.

The faint scent of medicinal herbs lingered in the air, elderly customers quietly browsed the shelves, and nothing seemed to have changed since her last visit.

Her eyes slowly drifted towards the very spot where the dishonest couple had staged their fake death in an attempt to scam the pharmacy.

A cold smirk appeared on her lips.

Just then, an excited voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Master! It’s been so long!”

Chen hurried over with an excited smile, enthusiastically extending his hand for a handshake.

“Where have you been?” he asked eagerly.

“I’ve just been around,” Mei replied with a polite smile as they shook hands.

“I saw the news, Master! You were incredible. You’re unbelievably talented at art appraisal.”

His words tumbled out one after another without giving himself time to breathe.

He was genuinely delighted to see her.

Ever since she left the pharmacy that day, he had secretly hoped she would return.

He had even regretted not asking for her WeChat before she left.

“It wasn’t anything special,” Mei replied modestly.

She had never expected the news to spread so far.

“My boss would really like to meet you, Miss Mei,” Chen said sincerely.

Mei looked at him in confusion.

“Why would your boss want to see me?”

Apart from Chen, she did not know anyone at Jade Spring Pharmacy.

“I told him everything that happened the day those dishonest people tried to scam us. Ever since then, he’s wanted to thank you personally.”

When the owner heard that such a young woman had recognised the hidden Breath Pills at a glance, he had been astonished.

Since that day, he had repeatedly asked Chen to find Mei because he wanted to express his gratitude himself.

“I… don’t think that’s really necessary,” Mei replied politely.

The last thing she wanted right now was becoming involved with more people.

“Please, Miss Mei,” Chen pleaded earnestly.

Unable to refuse him after seeing the hopeful look in his eyes, Mei finally nodded in agreement.
