Phantom stopped pacing the moment Alesya reached the paddock.

His ears swiveled forward.

His tense body lowered, level by level.Full novel: THE BILLIONAIRE’S FORBIDDEN JUMP — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

First one notch.

Then another.

Alesya didn’t run toward him.

She didn’t call out.

She carried no rope, no tools, nothing at all.

She just stood by the fence.

Waiting.

Phantom stared at her from across the paddock.

Then the black stallion took a step.

Slowly.

Carefully.

As if he himself wasn’t entirely convinced this woman was still there.

Sand crunched softly beneath his hooves.

One, two, three steps.

Until his muzzle touched Alesya’s open fingers resting on the fence rail.

Warm.

And very, very gentle.

Alesya closed her eyes for a moment.

“Hola, hermoso.”

Her voice was barely a whisper.

“Estoy aquí.

No me fui.”

Phantom exhaled a long breath through his nostrils.

Warm air swept over Alesya’s wrist.

Behind her, Javi the young groom who had been trying to coax Phantom inside for ages stood with his mouth half-open.

“Half an hour,” he whispered to Marcus, who had just arrived.

“I’ve been here half an hour.

He came in thirty seconds.”

Marcus didn’t answer.

But his eyes narrowed.

Not in disbelief.

More like he was remembering something.

Something from long ago.

Alesya opened the gate slowly.

She stepped into the paddock.

No one stopped her this time.

Phantom didn’t back away.

Instead, he nudged his head against Alesya’s shoulder.

The movement was so natural that anyone watching would have thought they had known each other for years.

Not just a few hours.

Alesya stroked his neck.

She could feel the massive muscles beneath the black coat.

Still tense.

Still wary.

But no longer panicked.

“You’re not afraid of the jump, are you?”

Phantom lowered his head slightly.

“You’re afraid of something else.”

A second stroke.

Slower.

“Something you feel from him.”

Phantom shifted slightly.

His ears rotated toward the arena in the distance.

Where Revan was still visible as a dark silhouette near the fence.

Watching.

Always watching.

Alesya followed the horse’s gaze.

Then she looked back at Phantom.

“Okay.

We’ll start slow.”

For the next hour, Alesya did nothing spectacular.

No jumping.

No long lines.

No voice commands.

She just walked.

Inside the paddock.

With no specific direction.

And Phantom followed her.

Wherever she moved, the stallion followed.

Stopping when she stopped.

Stepping when she stepped.

Occasionally touching her shoulder.

Occasionally exhaling into her hair.

Javi sat on the fence, legs dangling, eyes unblinking.

“He’s like a dog,” he whispered in awe.

Marcus elbowed him.

“Don’t say that in front of the boss.”

“But seriously, Marcus.

Phantom wouldn’t even let me hold his lead rope earlier.”

Marcus nodded slowly.

“I know.”

“Then why did he…”

“Because she doesn’t want anything from the horse.”

Javi turned to look.

Marcus watched Alesya, who was now crouching in the middle of the paddock.

Phantom stood over her.

Not threatening.

Protecting.

“Everyone who approaches Phantom comes with an agenda,” Marcus said quietly.

“Riders, trainers, vets, even me.

We all want him to jump again.”

He paused.

“That woman came only to listen.”

Javi looked back at the paddock.

Alesya was pressing her palm against Phantom’s chest.

Right over his heart.

Her eyes were closed.

As if she were counting something no one else could hear.

“Is that… normal?”

Marcus didn’t answer.

But he smiled slightly.

For the first time that day.

Revan arrived when the sun was higher.

His footsteps on the gravel were heard before his figure appeared at the paddock fence.

Alesya felt the change even before she saw him.

Not from the sound of his steps.

From Phantom.

The stallion lifted his head.

His ears swiveled.

His body tensed slightly.

Not fear.

Not aggression.

Alertness.

Like recognizing someone who was both very important and very complicated.

Alesya stood up.

Revan was already at the fence.

His arms rested on the top rail.

His gray eyes moved from Phantom to Alesya.

Then back to Phantom.

“He’s calm.”

Alesya nodded.

“For now.”

“What did you do?”

“Nothing.”

Revan stared at her flatly.

“You were in the paddock for an hour and your answer is ‘nothing’?”

“Exactly.”

She brushed dust from her knees.

“That’s what he needed.

Someone present without demands.”

Revan didn’t reply.

Alesya could see he was processing something.

Maybe annoyance.

Maybe admiration.

Maybe both.

“Get in the paddock.”

Revan raised an eyebrow.

“Excuse me?”

“Get in.

No saddle.

No rope.

Nothing.”

“For what purpose?”

“To see what Phantom does when you’re near him without the context of competition.”

Revan stared at her for a long time.

“Is this your medical method?”

“It’s the first step.”

“It feels like group therapy.”

“If you feel that way, maybe it’s necessary.”

The corner of Revan’s mouth twitched.

He opened the gate and entered.

Phantom changed immediately.

Not drastically.

But Alesya saw it.

The stallion’s neck rose slightly.

His weight shifted to his hind legs.

Ready.

Not ready to attack.

Ready to run.

Or ready to protect.

“Stand here,” Alesya said.

“Don’t move.”

Revan stopped three meters from Phantom.

He stood.

Silent.

The morning wind swept through the arena.

Carrying the scent of wet grass and warm sand.

Phantom stared at Revan.

Revan stared back.

Two creatures who knew each other more deeply than anyone else.

Who had flown together over the highest obstacles.

Who had fallen together in front of forty thousand spectators.

Slowly, Phantom took a step.

One.

Two.

He stopped.

He sniffed the air around Revan.

Then he stepped again.

Until his head was directly in front of Revan’s chest.

Right over his heart.

Just as Alesya had done earlier.

Only this time, Phantom did it on his own.

The stallion pressed his forehead against Revan’s chest.

Gently.

Heavily.

Revan didn’t move.

His hands clenched at his sides.

His knuckles turned white.

Alesya could see his jaw harden.

The muscles in his neck tense.

And his eyes…

His eyes were wet.

Just for a flash.

As quick as a blink.

But she saw it.

And something inside her own chest cracked.

Phantom exhaled a long breath.

Right against Revan’s chest.

As if saying: I am here.

I am still here.

Then, slowly, the stallion backed away.

He walked to Alesya.

Touched her shoulder.

Then went back to Revan.

Then to Alesya again.

Back and forth.

As if he couldn’t choose.

Or as if he didn’t want to choose.

Alesya laughed softly.

The sound escaped without permission.

But it was enough to make Revan turn.

And for a split second, his expression changed.

Not cold.

Not sharp.

Something more open.

More human.

More fragile.

“He wants us both,” Alesya said softly.

Revan looked at her.

Too long.

Too deep.

Then he shifted his gaze to Phantom, who was now standing right between them.

“He’s always too smart for his own good.”

His voice was rough.

Only slightly.

Enough to show that the moment hadn’t been small for him.

Alesya didn’t comment.

Didn’t ask.

Didn’t push.

She just stood there.

Letting the silence do the rest.

Because sometimes the bravest thing a doctor can do is not touch a wound that has just opened.

That afternoon, Marcus brought the cottage key to the barn.

Alesya accepted it while wiping horse ointment from her hands.

“The cottage is simple but clean,” Marcus said.

“Small kitchen, one bedroom, bathroom.

View of the west paddock.”

“Thank you.”

Marcus nodded.

Then he stopped.

“Miss Vargas.”

Alesya turned.

Marcus seemed to be choosing his words carefully.

“Phantom has never been like that with anyone.”

“Like what?”

“Calm.”

He paused again.

“Not calm from exhaustion.

Calm from feeling safe.”

Alesya didn’t answer.

Marcus continued, more quietly.

“The last time I saw that horse that comfortable… was when his previous owner was still alive.”

Previous owner.

Not Revan.

Alesya stored that information.

“Who was the previous owner?”

Marcus looked at her.

Then shook his head slowly.

“That’s Revan’s story.

Not mine.”

He nodded once more and walked away.

Alesya stood alone in the barn aisle.

Afternoon light streamed through the high windows.

Dust floated in the warm air.

From the nearest stall, Phantom lowered his head and chewed hay calmly.

For the first time in eight months, Marcus had said.

Alesya stared at the horse for a long time.

Then she looked at the key in her hand.

This cottage.

This contract.

This ranch.

It was all much bigger than she had expected.

She took out her phone.

Opened the chat with her mother.

Typed: I got the contract, Ma.

Three months.

Wish me luck.

The reply came within a minute.

Prayers are always with you, mija.

Take care of yourself.

Don’t be too hard on yourself.

Alesya smiled slightly.

Then she closed the chat.

She turned toward the barn exit.

She had taken only two steps when her phone vibrated again.

Not her mother.

An unknown number.

A country code that made her heart stop.

+57.

Colombia.

Alesya stopped walking.

The screen lit up in her hand.

Her fingers went cold.

She knew who this was.

Before answering.

Before hearing his voice.

She already knew.

Because her body remembered faster than her brain.

The way

her stomach tightened.

The way her breath caught in her throat.

The way the world felt a little darker just because of one phone number.

She answered.

“Hello.”

Two seconds of silence.

Then the voice came.

Warm.

Familiar.

And carrying every memory she had buried for two years.

“Alesya.”

“Long time no hear.”

Sebastián.

Alesya’s fingers tightened on the phone.

Behind her, Phantom lifted his head from his hay.

Staring at Alesya’s back.

And ever since that woman had arrived….

The black stallion seemed anxious.

Not for himself.

But for her.
