"CRACK!"
Dancing lightning leaped across the body of the first kobold.
[Lorin’s Lightning Traction]
Before hitting the ground, he used Lightning Traction. The magic controlled his trajectory, pulling him toward the kobold, and he used its body to land safely.
"SQUELCH."
Pulling Rusted Throat out of the kobold’s chest, Lorin spun the sword with both hands, flicking the blood off the blade.
"Fucking hairless lizard bastard, die!"
A streak of red light flashed past him. Pip swung his warhammer, smashing the upper half of another kobold into a bloody mist. But right at that moment...
"ROAR—"
The Dragon Shield Guard opened its mouth wide. A deep, resonant voice erupted from its small body, echoing through the hall like rolling thunder.
An invisible ripple rapidly expanded outward from it as the center, sweeping over everyone present.
The world seemed to hit the mute button in an instant. The burning torches at their feet lost their color, leaving only black and gray before his eyes.
Lorin found it hard to describe his current feeling with words.
His usually agile body felt as if it were filled with lead. Every muscle in his body trembled slightly. His mind went blank, all his thoughts instantly crushed.
His fingers stiffened on the hilt of his sword; no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t lift it even an inch.
"What... is... happening..." he thought.
"THUMP... THUMP... THUMP..."
Sensing danger, his heart began to beat violently. Blood surged through his veins, attempting to reawaken his out-of-control body.
"Move... just move," he urged himself.
His vision returned. He didn’t know how much time had passed, but he saw the frail kobold standing behind the Dragon Shield Guard. Its mouth was moving slightly. It raised its hand, and motes of firelight gathered at its fingertips, aiming straight at him.
"Run... run... run!"
A muffled voice came from beside him. He had no time to think, forcing his body to move with all his might.
A Flaming Arrow rose from the hand of that Dogman Scale Sorcerer. Trailing a tail of light, it flew toward Lorin at what felt like an excruciatingly slow speed.
He wondered why it wasn’t afraid of the bright light.
Lorin was surprised by his own wandering thoughts, wondering how he could still have the mood to think about such things at a time like this.
"Magic power... I should guide my magic power," he thought. Visit g.com for the full chapter.
"Heart... shoulders... arms... fingertips..."
The Flaming Arrow was getting closer and closer. The bright flame made Lorin feel somewhat uncomfortable, and the skin on his face could already feel a slight burning sensation.
Lightning leaped from his fingertips, shooting rapidly at a nearby stone pillar, and chains materialized—
He grabbed them firmly.
[Lorin’s Lightning Traction]
"Fucking run, Lorin!!"
"CRASH—"
He fell heavily to the ground.
All sounds instantly rushed back into his mind. He felt a scorching pain on his left cheek, and he couldn’t open his left eye for a moment.
That Flaming Arrow had brushed right past Lorin’s left cheek, missing him by mere centimeters!
Fortunately, the speed of Lightning Traction was almost identical to the flight speed of the Flaming Arrow. He didn’t take a direct hit; his face only suffered some burns, and his chest felt a bit tight from crashing into the stone pillar.
"Fucking beast!" Pip roared.
Lorin panted heavily a few times, cold sweat almost completely soaking the linen shirt on his back. He turned his head to look toward the source of the voice.
Holding his warhammer, Pip leaped high toward the sorcerer who had sneak-attacked Lorin. He seemed to think Lorin was already dead and wanted to avenge him.
"CLANG!"
A dull, loud crash echoed through the hall, making Lorin’s ears ring. He shook his head and finally recovered his senses.
The halfling’s warhammer was blocked by the Dragon Shield Guard. A few scales were smashed off the shield, but the Dragon Shield Guard remained almost unscathed, only taking a few steps back.
"AAAHHH!"
Pip swung his warhammer in frustration, smashing it at the guard over and over again. However, every blow was caught by the shield in its hand, only hammering it backward step by step.
Lorin lay on the ground, not rushing to join the battle. Everyone on the field seemed to think he had already been blown up by that fireball. This was a great opportunity.
He wondered how he could attack that Scale Mage. He was at least forty feet away, but the total range of Lightning Traction was only fifteen feet.
Lorin had never wanted to learn a ranged magic so badly.
He observed his surroundings.
Longsword Rusted Throat had been left behind when he used Lightning Traction. He could throw the dagger at his waist, but without practicing his aim, tossing such a weapon was no different from relying on blind luck.
Huh? Lorin suddenly saw a short spear lying on the ground not far away. It was the one he had picked up earlier!
He looked up.
Pip was cleverly tangling with the Dragon Shield Guard. The sorcerer behind it had already materialized a Flaming Arrow, but afraid of hurting its companion, it didn’t dare to throw it.
Sustained channeling consumed a lot of mana, so it had no choice but to dissipate it. New chapters come out on g.com first.
"Very good..." Lorin thought to himself.
With his eyes half-open, he observed the situation on the battlefield while controlling his body to slightly wriggle toward the short spear.
Thanks to his experience of frequently breaking into houses at night since his transmigration, he moved completely silently. No one noticed that a "corpse" was stealthily changing its position.
That Dogman Scale Sorcerer was so frustrated by Pip that he shouted loudly at the Dragon Shield Guard:
"@$&#?##!"
The Dragon Shield Guard nodded upon hearing this. Feigning exhaustion, it stepped aside and let Pip pass.
"Haha! This idiot is finally giving out! Lorin, watch me avenge you!"
Pip was also exhausted, but seeing this scene made him excited. He dashed toward the Dogman Scale Sorcerer.
"Something’s wrong..." Lorin frowned, wondering what kind of guard would let an enemy right in front of a caster.
He saw the sorcerer begin to chant in a low voice.
The Dogman Scale Sorcerer touched his thumbs together and slightly spread his other fingers forward. Sparks ignited in the center of his palms.
At the same time, the Dragon Shield Guard raised its shield toward the sorcerer, curling into a ball and hiding behind it.
The familiar flame made Lorin’s heart skip a beat. He immediately realized what it was.
Burning Hand.
"Dodge, Pip!"
He had no time to move any further. Pushing off with his hands, he stood straight up, quickly picked up the short spear on the ground, and threw it with all his might.
"How are you alive!" the halfling exclaimed.
The short spear plummeted, landing awkwardly beside the sorcerer. Lorin’s sudden "resurrection" gave the creature a full-body flinch, causing the magic in its hands to fire slightly off-target.
A cone of flame erupted from its spread fingertips. However, because it was too close, the unexpanded flame was dodged by Pip, who ducked, only managing to singe and curl his reddish-brown hair.
But the Dragon Shield Guard behind him wasn’t so lucky. The scorching flame hit it directly, burning the sharp edges of the dragon scale shield until they turned red-hot.
Not only that, but the flame ignited the dust in the air around it into strings of tiny sparks, illuminating the entire hall as bright as day.
"ROAR—"
The Dragon Shield Guard let out an excited cry.
"Lord Scale Mage’s magic has such strong power; that detestable dwarf must certainly be dead by now!" it thought.
As the flame dissipated, it looked up in anticipation.
