“Pfft! Wimp!” Rex Splode snorted as he watched the hatch close.

“Rex!” Atom Eve glared at him, prompting him to raise both hands up.

“What? Just stating facts,” Rex Splode said with a smirk.

“You—”

“If my data serves me correctly, Atom Eve, you have a scheduled appointment at this precise time,” Robot said, bringing their conversation to a stop as he turned to look at her.

“Is my assessment incorrect?”

“Oh, shit!” Atom Eve cursed as she turned to Robot.

“Robot, open up the hatch now!”

“Who’s this guy you keep on meeting?” Rex Splode questioned from the side, receiving a teasing stare from Atom Eve.

“No one,” Atom Eve replied smoothly before shooting upward, leaving the base.

Reginald Vel Johnson High School.

Atom Eve—Eve—now dressed in casual clothes of a green t-shirt and green jeans, holding three books, hurriedly entered the library and walked to an isolated section where a black-haired boy with glasses waited.

“Sorry for being late,” Eve said as she placed the books she was holding on the table, and she immediately noticed Jack’s downcast expression.

“Y-Yeah,” Jack nodded as he pushed his glasses up, trying his best to hide his inner turmoil with a smile.

“I thought you wouldn’t come.”

Eve offered a wry, apologetic smile.

“I was helping Bianca with her relationship.”

Seeing Jack quietly nod, she smoothly changed the subject.

“By the way, why didn’t you come yesterday?”

“Sasha wanted my help in picking up groceries,” Jack said.

“Oh,” Eve nodded, then opened a chemistry textbook.

“So, where did we leave off last time?”

“I think we were right in the middle of limiting reactants,” Jack said.

“Oh yeah! That’s true!” Eve said as she clapped her hands together with a bright smile.

“We were right in the middle of that sandwich metaphor. Ready to tackle the math today?”

Jack smiled and nodded.

The two soon started solving and exchanging words; once in a while, Eve would burst out in laughter at a mistake Jack made before correcting him, and Jack found himself momentarily forgetting about the killing incident.

Five minutes later, the school bell rang, and lunch break was over.

“Oh my god! We aren’t even close to solving this. I definitely should have come earlier,” Eve said as she slumped on the table.

Jack smiled as he packed his books into his bag.

“We always have after school, right?”

Eve shot up and smiled.

“That’s true!” Eve squinted at him.

“Which means you’re not allowed to run away this time, right?”

“Not for the world,” Jack replied.

“Then I’ll see you after school!” Eve took her textbooks, waved at him, and left.

Watching her retreating figure, Jack sighed, slung his bag over his shoulder, and left the library. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.

The hours went by in a blur.

After having the last study session with Eve for the day, Jack finally left the school, exhausted.

Stepping out of the school, Jack scrolled through the news.

Together with other superheroes’ activities, the act of him and the teen team also topped the news, causing him to smile slightly.

But seeing his costume—an old, worn-out hoodie paired with equally old, worn-out trousers—the smile on Jack’s face froze.

“I really need a costume…” Jack muttered, a small thoughtful frown on his face.

“Art should help… maybe… definitely not.” Jack massaged his temples.

Going to Art and expecting him to make a suit for him was close to, if not almost, impossible.

And if by some chance he did agree, Jack was sure it would be expensive as fuck.

“Guess I’ll have to contact Eve,” Jack muttered as he tapped the earpiece once.

“Superboy?” Robot’s voice came through it.

“Uh, can I talk to Atom Eve?” Jack asked, and there was silence for a while before Robot replied.

“Patching you through to Atom Eve, Superboy,” Robot said.

Jack waited for five seconds before a voice sounded from the earpiece; this time, it was Atom Eve’s.

“Hey, Superboy. Robot said you needed to talk to me?”

“Yeah.

Um, I was wondering if we could meet?” Jack said, and feeling like it sounded awkward, he immediately added, “I just need your help with something!”

“Okay. Let’s meet at Lakeside Mall,” Eve’s voice came through.

“Okay,” Jack nodded, and the earpiece let out a beep.

“I might finally be able to get a suit,” Jack muttered with a smile.

He ran to an alley and 5 seconds later, he flew towards the outer district, now changed, his bag placed in a corner.
