Tuesday morning.
The internet was still screaming.
#WhoIsJaneMiller
#TeamJane
#ChloeLeakedIt
Jane didn’t look at any of it.
She had a job.
And a fitting.
And two kids who needed lunch.
“Are we going to see Dad today?” Aria asked, swinging her legs at the kitchen table.
“After work,” Jane said. “He’s in meetings.”
Ryan had texted at 5 AM: _Stay home. I’ll handle the press._
Jane texted back: _I have a job. I’m going._
*11:30 AM - Sterling Women’s Showroom*
12th floor. Glass walls. Manhattan skyline.
Jane was pinning hems on a model when Mira walked in.
Face tight.
“We have a problem,” Mira said.
“What now?”
“Chloe Carter is downstairs. In the lobby. Doing an interview.”
Jane’s hands stopped.
Pin in the fabric.
“What kind of interview?”
“The ‘I was there that night’ kind,” Mira said. “She’s saying you seduced Ryan. That you planned this.”
Aria, who was in the corner coloring, looked up. “Who’s Chloe?”
“No one, baby,” Jane said. Her voice didn’t shake.
But her hands did.
Security was already moving to escort Chloe out.
But Chloe was live.
Jane could hear her. Even through the glass.
“...and Jane was always like that. Chasing rich men. She even told me—”
Something snapped in Jane.
“Stay here,” she told Mira. “Watch her.”
*11:38 AM - The Lobby*
Cameras. 3 of them.
Chloe in red. Perfect hair. Tears that weren’t real.
“—she told me Ryan was lonely. That if she could just get pregnant—”
Jane walked straight into frame.
The reporters turned.
Chloe turned. And froze.
“Jane,” Chloe said. Fake shock. “I didn’t know you were here.”
Jane didn’t stop.
She stopped 2 feet from Chloe. Close enough that only she could hear.
“Shut up,” Jane said. Quiet. Dead calm.
Chloe blinked. “Excuse me?”
“I said shut up,” Jane said, louder now. For the cameras.
“You drugged me. You watched. And now you’re lying. Again.”
Chloe laughed. “I have no idea what you’re—”
“5 years ago,” Jane cut her off. “Sterling Winter Gala. You put something in my drink. I have the texts. You bragged to your friend about it.”
The lobby went dead silent.
Chloe’s face went white. “You’re lying.”
“Am I?” Jane pulled out her phone. Held it up.
Screenshot. Chloe to her friend, 5 years ago:
_“Did it. She drank it. Let’s see what happens ;)”_
Gasps.
Camera flashes.
Chloe lunged. “Give me that—”
Security grabbed her arms.
Jane stepped back. “You want to talk about who planned what? You did. And I spent 5 years running because of you.”
She looked straight into the cameras.
“My name is Jane Miller. I’m a designer. I’m a mother. And I’m not ashamed of surviving you.”
Then she turned.
Walked out.
Head high.
Behind her, chaos.
*12:05 PM - The Car*
Ryan was already there.
He’d left the board meeting mid-sentence.
He opened the door. Pulled Jane in.
“Are you okay?”
Jane was shaking. Adrenaline. “I don’t know.”
Ryan grabbed her face. Looked at her. “You were incredible.”
“I’m terrified,” Jane admitted. “What if they don’t believe me? What if—”
“They do,” Ryan said. “It’s everywhere already. #ChloeConfessed is trending.”
He pulled her into his chest.
“I’m so proud of you.”
Jane cried. Finally.
Not because she was scared.
Because she wasn’t running anymore.
*1:00 PM - The News*
By lunch, the narrative flipped.
*CNN*: _WOMAN ACCUSES SOCIALITE OF DRUGGING AT 5-YEAR-OLD PARTY_
*TMZ*: _CHLOE CARTER CAUGHT ON CAMERA_
*Twitter*: _BELIEVE JANE_
Chloe’s PR team quit.
Victoria released another statement. No one read it.
Police announced: _Investigation opened into 5-year-old incident._
*6:00 PM - The Brownstone*
The twins knew something happened.
They could feel it.
Aiden: “Did you fight someone, Mom?”
Jane: “I told the truth, baby. That’s all.”
Aria: “Is the bad lady in trouble?”
Ryan: “Yes. She is.”
After bedtime, Ryan and Jane sat on the back steps.
No tea. No talking.
Just her head on his shoulder.
His arm around her.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Ryan said.
“Yes, I did,” Jane said. “For me. For them. For 19-year-old me.”
Ryan kissed the top of her head.
“I’m in love with you,” he said again. Like it was a fact.
“Not because you’re brave. Because you’re you.”
Jane didn’t answer.
She just turned.
And kissed him.
Soft. Shaking. Real.
Ryan froze for half a second.
Then kissed her back.
When they pulled apart, neither of them was smiling.
They were just... there.
*11:00 PM - London*
Victoria watched the video of Jane in the lobby.
On loop.
She threw her laptop across the room.
“Fix this,” she screamed at her assistant. “I don’t care how!”
Her phone rang.
Daniel Price.
“I have something better than photos,” he said. “I have audio.”
Victoria smiled.
