Leah made no attempt to hide the icy sarcasm in her voice.

Wendy Scott sat across from her.

Her face stiffened slightly, yet she stubbornly maintained a polite smile.Full novel: The Contract Expired. So Did His Chance — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Tilting her chin up, she spoke with the air of a victor, “Miss Sterling, could you hurry up and divorce Adrian Hawthorne?”

Leah, who had been looking down and stirring her coffee, raised an eyebrow and glanced over.

“In what capacity and from what moral high ground are you speaking to me right now?” Leah asked calmly.

“Do you not feel any shame at all?”

Wendy bit her lip gently and took a deep breath.

“I know you and Adrian entered into a marriage of convenience.

There was never any foundation of love between you two.

Besides, your agreement is about to expire, isn’t it?”

“You sure know a lot.” Leah’s lips curled into a faint smirk.

“Did Adrian Hawthorne tell you that?”

Wendy ignored the question and tilted her chin up slightly, arrogant as a victor.

“I also know you probably look down on me.

You think I’m the other woman, the homewrecker who inserted herself into your marriage.

But with all due respect, Miss Sterling.

“I won’t even use the line that the unloved one is the true third party.

But if we really want to talk about who came first, I was here before you!

If it weren’t for the pressure from his family, you would never have had the chance to marry Adrian Hawthorne!”

Leah looked at her and laughed, as if she were observing some strange new species.

“Your sense of morality is truly something else.”

Although Leah also wanted to get this divorce over with quickly, having Wendy breathing down her neck about it stirred up a sense of disgust and a rebellious urge to do the exact opposite.

Besides, was it Leah who didn’t want the divorce?!

Wendy acted as if Leah was the one desperately clinging on and refusing to let go!

“If you were sitting across from a legal wife with a worse temper, you’d either be getting slapped across the face or have coffee thrown at you by now,” Leah stated.

Leah’s words made Wendy shrink back, a hint of panic flashing across her face.

She had probably heard the rumors about Leah.

In Corvin’s high society, Leah was known for having a good temperament, but she was by no means a pushover.

Seeing Wendy’s reaction, the corner of Leah’s mouth twitched upward.

This woman was exactly what she seemed—cowardly yet vicious.

Wendy watched Leah warily and asked cautiously, “What will it take for you to divorce Adrian Hawthorne?”

Hearing this, Leah smiled, her gorgeous features lighting up even more brilliantly.

“Then give me thirty million.”

“Why should I give you thirty million?” Wendy was stunned.

“Can’t afford it?

Then what right do you have to rush me into a divorce?” Leah stopped stirring her coffee.

“First of all, I haven’t divorced Adrian Hawthorne yet, so you may address me as Mrs.

Hawthorne.”

The title ‘Mrs.

Hawthorne’ seemed to strike a nerve with Wendy.

“A Mrs.

Hawthorne in name only!

What are you so smug about…”

“Having the title is enough.” Leah stood up, resting her hands on the table and looking down at Wendy.

“Wendy Scott, in Corvin’s upper circles, the title matters more than anything.

Only someone as naive as you would parade around under the guise of true love, terrified that people might not realize you’re nothing but Adrian Hawthorne’s kept plaything.

“As long as I retain that title, as long as I am Mrs.

Hawthorne for even one more day, whatever Adrian gives you is taken from our shared marital assets.

If I decide to reclaim it, you won’t see a single cent.

“The only reason I haven’t dealt with you is because I can’t be bothered, not because I can’t.

Otherwise, I could beat you whenever I felt like it without even needing to pick a date.”

With that, Leah picked up her latte, its milk froth now thoroughly mixed, and slowly poured it directly over Wendy’s head.

Leah set the cup down and took her seat.

“There.

Now you can go cry to Adrian Hawthorne and tell him to hurry up and divorce me.” Her posture was impeccably elegant, showing no trace whatsoever of a woman who had just dumped coffee on someone.

Even though the coffee was only lukewarm, Wendy trembled all over as if she had been doused in ice water, shaking with sheer fury.

She stared fiercely at Leah, then pulled out her phone.

She dialed Adrian Hawthorne on the spot.

Keeping her eyes fixed on Leah, she tapped the speakerphone button, and only then did she raise a hand to wipe the sticky milk and coffee dripping steadily from her hair and chin.

BEEP…

BEEP…

BEEP…

After ringing a few times, the call finally connected.

A deep, magnetic male voice resonated from the phone.

It sounded somewhat nonchalant, yet incredibly pleasant to the ear.

“Hmm?

What’s wrong?”

Wendy gave a soft sniffle.

The very same eyes that had been glaring at Leah just a second ago now instantly reddened as she sobbed, “Adrian, I met with Leah today…”

“Why did you meet with her?” The previously nonchalant voice sharpened with sudden attention.

Wendy’s voice dripped with grievance as she gave another soft sniffle.

“I just wanted to know when you two were getting divorced.

Who knew she would actually pour coffee all over my head and face?

“I was only asking.

After all, she was the one who brought the agreement over that day.

How could she act like this…

being sweet to your face, yet doing something completely different behind your back?”

“I understand.

I’ll teach her a lesson.

Go get some rest and don’t seek her out again, lest you end up on the losing end,” Adrian coaxed calmly.

“Okay, I know.” Wendy looked up at Leah before finally ending the call.

In stark contrast to her tearful tone just moments ago, the look she shot Leah was filled with undisguised provocation and mockery.

Leah met the provocation in Wendy’s eyes with a faint smile.

Without missing a beat, she took out her own phone, dialed the exact same number, turned on the speakerphone, and placed it on the table.

Wendy stared at the name ‘Adrian Hawthorne’ on Leah’s screen, clearly not expecting things to unfold this way.

“What…

what are you doing?”

“Giving you a helping hand.” Leah looked at Wendy with a half-smile.

On the other end, Adrian picked up the call.

The man’s voice remained deep, magnetic, and pleasing to the ear, but this time it carried a hint of a teasing chuckle.

“Moving up in the world, are we?

You’re even throwing coffee at people now?”

Rather than a reprimand, his tone sounded far more amused.

It was as if, in their five years of marriage, this was the very first time Leah had ever made him feel so intrigued.

“She dared to come right to my face, so why shouldn’t I throw it?” Leah fired back.

“So, are you going to divorce me?”

Hearing Leah’s words, Wendy’s face went pale.

The corner of her eye twitched violently as her gaze stayed glued to Leah’s phone.

Leah raised an eyebrow slightly, also looking at her phone.

Both she and Wendy were waiting for the answer they wanted.

And ironically, they both wanted the exact same answer.

Wendy wanted Adrian and Leah to get a divorce, and so did Leah.

Adrian gave a low chuckle.

“Leah, my stance is already very clear.

The decision is entirely up to you.”

Upon hearing Adrian say this, the blood drained entirely from Wendy’s face.

She stared blankly at Leah.

Leah also understood the man’s underlying meaning—his stance hadn’t changed one bit just because she dumped coffee over his true love’s head!

Leah pursed her lips, catching a glimpse of Wendy out of the corner of her eye.

Since things had already come this far…

“Fine, I accept.

I’ll continue being your wife.”

Adrian’s low laughter sounded from the other end, lazy and affectionate.

“Ah, good girl.”
