The pale blue light stopped on Dhiraj.

For a few seconds nothing else happened.

The reactor chamber simply hummed around him while dust drifted through the air in slow spirals.Full novel: The Dao Engineer: Infinite Reactor System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Somewhere high above, metal groaned softly like the structure was shifting under its own weight.

Then the surrounding lights dimmed one after another.

Sections faded unevenly across the chamber until only the beam remained, stretching down from the darkness overhead onto his body.

Dhiraj tried to move and realized he couldn’t.

The problem was difficult to explain even to himself.

His muscles still responded.

He could feel his hands.

His legs.

His breathing.

But the pressure pressing down on him made movement feel deeply wrong, like trying to walk during an earthquake.

The underground complex felt focused on him now.

A low mechanical tone echoed somewhere overhead.

Then another answered it from deeper within the chamber.

The sounds overlapped strangely.

Reactor synchronization sequences flashed through Dhiraj’s mind immediately.

He remembered sitting half-awake in engineering lectures back on Earth while simulation models rotated slowly across cracked classroom projectors.

Except these sounds carried something underneath them.

Not actual language.

More like thousands of voices speaking too fast behind a wall.

The blue beam swept slowly downward across his body.

“…biological analysis initiated…”

The voice sounded ancient in a way that made his skin tighten. Not old like an elderly person.

Old like something that had been running for too long.

Symbols lit up across the walls.

At first only a few. Then thousands.

Lines spread through the darkness in expanding circles while hidden formations awakened beneath layers of dust and fractured stone.

Some resembled cultivation arrays from the stories people told in the mining settlement.

Others looked disturbingly similar to circuitry diagrams.

At this point the difference barely mattered.

Dhiraj swallowed carefully.

His throat felt dry from dust.

The chamber vibration deepened suddenly.

Pain exploded through his skull.

Dhiraj stumbled sideways and nearly slipped on loose gravel.

He caught himself against a chunk of cold metal protruding from the floor while unfamiliar images slammed into his mind hard enough to make his stomach twist.

A sky filled with floating cities.

Entire landmasses suspended above clouds beneath enormous glowing rings.

Rivers of pale light moved between them through the heavens like flowing currents.

People crossed the sky without swords beneath their feet.

Rotating formations circled their bodies alongside metallic halos floating behind them in precise synchronization.

Then another image crashed into him.

A colossal structure orbiting above a blue world.

Golden arrays rotated around something burning at its center like a captured sun.

Voices echoed everywhere.

“…stability failure spreading through outer sectors…”

“…reactor synchronization at sixty-three percent…”

“…Ascendant fleets retreating…”

The vision shattered violently.

Dhiraj bent forward breathing hard.

His head pounded badly enough that he tasted blood somewhere in his mouth.

He was not even sure if he had bitten his tongue or if the visions themselves were doing damage.

The chamber flickered around him.

Blue energy pulsed through conduits beneath the floor.

One nearby structure sparked violently, showering tiny blue-white fragments across cracked stone.

Another vision struck before he could recover.

Stars.An ocean of them.

Massive constructs drifted through space in complete silence.

At first Dhiraj thought they were ships.

Then the scale hit him.

Cities.

Entire worlds built from machinery and formations together.

He saw cultivators meditating inside enormous chambers surrounded by floating geometric structures larger than mountains.

Streams of qi circulated around them alongside another energy he could not identify.

Then came the war.

Only fragments reached him.

Worlds burning beneath collapsing formation networks.

Massive shapes moving through darkness between the stars.

silence.

That was what disturbed him most afterward.

Not explosions.Not destruction.

Silence spreading across entire cities.

The vision vanished so abruptly Dhiraj almost fell again.

He dropped to one knee breathing hard while cold sweat ran down his neck beneath his torn miner clothing.

The chamber air remained freezing, but his body no longer seemed to care.

For several moments only the reactor hum remained.

Then the voice returned.

“…Ascendancy Archive access… corrupted…”

Ascendancy.

The word lingered strangely in his head.

Before he could think further, light erupted across the chamber floor.

Formation circles spread beneath his feet in expanding rings while damaged arrays along the walls activated one after another.

Massive structures suspended overhead began rotating slowly, shedding dust and fragments of stone.

The entire underground complex felt awake now.Not fully awake.

More like somebody dragging themselves upright after collapsing for a very long time.

Dhiraj forced himself back to his feet.

The engineer inside him noticed the instability immediately.

Several systems were operating out of synchronization.

Entire sections pulsed irregularly while damaged conduits sparked beneath cracked crystal layers.

One rotating ring overhead produced a grinding sound every few seconds that reminded him unpleasantly of a broken ceiling fan in his old hostel room.

The structure beneath Graystone Mountain had survived for an impossible amount of time.Barely.

Another voice spoke suddenly.

Different this time.

Female.

“…emergency inheritance protocol initiated…”

Dhiraj froze.

The voice did not echo from the walls.

It existed inside the chamber itself.

Inside the hum.

Inside the air pressing against his skin.

“…remaining viable candidates… zero…”

A brief pause followed.

Then:

“…anomaly detected…”

The beam surrounding him intensified.

His vision blurred instantly.

Images crashed into his mind faster than before.

A man standing inside a reactor chamber larger than cities while stars rotated beyond transparent walls.

Cultivators forging metallic worlds beneath arrays stretching across empty space.

Armies kneeling before floating black structures covered in endless blue symbols.

A woman with silver eyes standing beside a dying sun.

Then collapse.

Cities burning in the sky.

Reactor systems destabilizing.

Something dark spreading between stars while entire formation networks failed one after another.

The visions fractured apart before he could understand any of it.

Dhiraj clenched his jaw hard enough that pain spread into his teeth.

His head felt wrong.Too full.

Memories that did not belong to him pressed against the inside of his skull hard enough to make his vision blur.

The chamber pulsed again.

Then the ancient voice spoke.

“…Infinite Technology System…”

The words rolled through the darkness softly.

“…reactivation successful…”

Every light inside the chamber brightened simultaneously.

Blue energy surged through the surrounding reactor structures while formations ignited across the walls like stars appearing across a night sky.

Dhiraj’s body locked in place again.

This sensation felt different.

Cold spread through him, but not the kind that touched skin or bone.

Information flooded through his mind instead.

His vision filled with symbols he could not understand.

Endless streams of patterns flooded through his mind while the chamber dissolved into overwhelming pale light.

Thousands of voices overlapped around him.

“…civilization synchronization—”

“…Heavenly Tribunal breach confirmed—”

“…reactor network failure—”

“…OMEGA—”

Static swallowed the final word. Then everything disappeared.

Dhiraj found himself standing inside darkness.

Not the reactor chamber he was .

Somewhere else entirely.

The black space stretched endlessly in every direction while blue symbols drifted around him like falling embers.

He looked down automatically.

His body remained visible, though barely.

Pale lines spread beneath his skin in incomplete pathways.

The female voice returned.

Closer now.

“…host consciousness stabilized…”

A figure slowly formed within the darkness ahead of him.

Not completely human.

Not entirely artificial either.

Its body existed only as shifting blue light, unstable around the edges like a damaged projection struggling to maintain shape.

The face remained indistinct.

The eyes did not.

Focused entirely on him

“…system integrity critically damaged…”

The figure flickered briefly.

“…core functions unavailable…”

Dhiraj realized his hands were shaking slightly.

He forced himself to speak anyway.

“What are you?”

The figure remained silent long enough to become uncomfortable.

Then:

“…designation: ASTRA…”

The name echoed through the void.

Dhiraj took a slow breath.

Questions crowded his mind all at once.

Most of them useless.

Am I dead?

Is this a hallucination?

Why does this place feel engineered?

Why does part of this actually make sense?

Before he could ask anything else, the darkness shifted behind the figure.

A massive reactor emerged within the void.

Rotating rings surrounded it endlessly while flowing symbols moved across its surface like rivers of light.

The sight tightened something in Dhiraj’s chest unexpectedly.

Not because it looked alien.Because parts of it looked familiar.

Energy containment.

Circulation.

Synchronization principles.

The foundations existed.

Humanity on Earth had simply never reached this level.

The figure raised one glowing hand.

The reactor responded immediately.

Blue light spread across the void.

Then the knowledge hit him.

The information slammed into his consciousness hard enough that he nearly blacked out.

Cultivation pathways.

Circulation models.

Formation structures layered over meridian systems.

Energy refinement sequences.

Rotating diagrams filled his vision showing qi moving through the human body alongside geometric networks resembling reactor systems.

Technology and cultivation merged together completely.

Not replacing one another, but refining each other.

Improving its stability and control.

Dhiraj fell to one knee.

The knowledge pouring into him felt incomplete in places.

Damaged.

Entire sections fractured apart like corrupted data.

But even broken, it was vast enough to make him feel small.

The voice echoed one final time through the darkness.

“…Infinite Reactor Scripture inheritance beginning…”

Then the first cultivation pathway burned itself into Dhiraj’s mind.

Somewhere far away, metal continued groaning inside the ancient chamber beneath the mountain.
