25 – The Lady Has Disappeared
At that moment, a staff member approached Ye Jingchuan.
“Sir, do you know this young lady? She dropped her ID card on the ground when she left.”
Having seen Ye Jingchuan speaking with Mu Mian earlier, the staff member came over to inquire.
Ye Jingchuan looked at the ID card in the staff member’s hand, his eyes lighting up slightly when he saw Mu Mian’s photo.
“Yes, I know her. I’ll take it to her,” Ye Jingchuan extended his hand.
Normally, such items shouldn’t be casually handed over to others, but the staff member had seen them conversing earlier, and Ye Jingchuan had been specially received by the director, indicating he was certainly no ordinary person.
The staff member confidently handed the ID card to Ye Jingchuan.
Ye Jingchuan took Mu Mian’s ID card and walked out, returning to his car to examine it carefully.
Mu Mian…
Her name was indeed Mu Mian. Why hadn’t his previous investigations uncovered her?
Noticing the address listed—XX District, XX Road Orphanage—he realized she must have grown up in an orphanage.
Ye Jingchuan entered the orphanage’s address into his navigation system and drove there.
Meanwhile, Mu Mian had already returned home.
“Master, where did you go?” Xiao Qiu asked curiously as soon as she entered the room.
Mu Mian lifted her chin proudly and answered, “I went to get my ID card! From now on, I’m someone with proper identification!”
“Wow! What’s an ID card? Xiao Qiu wants to see it!”
Mu Mian immediately opened her bag but couldn’t find the ID card inside.
Oh right, she had put it in her pocket.
She felt around in her pockets but couldn’t find the ID card either; instead, a slip of paper fell out.
Mu Mian had no interest in what the paper was about and casually tossed it aside.
After confirming that her ID card was truly missing, she stared wide-eyed in disbelief. “My ID card is gone!”
Xiao Qiu: “…” The little bird gently shook its head. Its master’s habit of being forgetful remained unchanged after all these centuries.
Mu Mian immediately went to tell the servant that she had lost her ID card.
Fortunately, the servant informed her that ID cards could be reapplied for.
Only then did Mu Mian breathe a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Ye Jingchuan drove to the orphanage.
Seeing a young, handsome man enter, an orphanage employee asked curiously, “Sir, may I ask what brings you here?”
“I’m looking for Mu Mian. She dropped her ID card.”
“Mu Mian?” The employee frowned in confusion, thinking for a moment. “There’s no one named Mu Mian here.”
The employee’s reaction gave Ye Jingchuan pause. “She’s not from here?”
Ye Jingchuan handed the ID card to the employee for verification.
The employee took the ID card, examined the photo and details, and looked completely puzzled.
“She’s definitely not from here. I’ve worked here for over ten years and have never seen her before. But why would her address be listed as our orphanage? How strange…”
The employee’s words made Ye Jingchuan frown. He didn’t think the employee was lying or had any reason to deceive him.
So she truly wasn’t from this orphanage.
But if she wasn’t from here, why was this orphanage’s address on her ID card?
The employee tentatively asked, “Should I go ask the director?”Ye Jingchuan quickly retrieved the ID card from the employee’s hand. “Thank you, but that won’t be necessary. Sorry to trouble you.”
After speaking, he turned and left the orphanage, driving away in his car.
From the employee’s earlier words, he knew the address on this ID was clearly fake. She must have deliberately created a false identity. If the employee reported this to the director, it might cause trouble for her.
After driving some distance, Ye Jingchuan pulled over by the roadside.
Staring at the ID card in his hand, he murmured: “Just who are you? How many more secrets do you have?”
It seemed that every time he saw her, she could bring him unexpected surprises.
A faint smile curled at the corner of Ye Jingchuan’s lips.
He was eagerly anticipating receiving a call from her, answering every unknown number that came through.
However, after waiting two days, her call never came.
Because that scoundrel rabbit had long forgotten all about this matter.
Mu Mian counted on her fingers.
Finally, her husband would return from his business trip tomorrow!
After finishing dinner and returning to the bedroom, as night fell, Mu Mian began to feel something was amiss.
Suddenly realizing something, she walked to the window and drew back the curtain, looking up at the sky.
The weather was particularly clear today – not a cloud in sight, revealing a round full moon against the dark blue sky.
Oh no, she had forgotten today was the full moon!
She needed to warn her husband in advance!
Thinking this, Mu Mian hurried to the bedside to grab her phone and dial Fu Chenxiu’s number.
But the moment she made the call, a flash of white light appeared, and the phone clattered to the floor with a crash.
Because the person who had been holding the phone could no longer hold it, as she… had transformed into a rabbit barely larger than the phone itself!
Meanwhile, Fu Chenxiu and Shi Hai had just gotten out of the car at the airport in France, preparing to board their flight home.
His phone rang, showing Mu Mian’s caller ID.
A slight smile touched his lips, thinking her timing was perfect – soon he’d be on the plane and unable to take calls.
Fu Chenxiu answered with his usual calm tone: “What’s wrong?”
But there was no response from the other end.
Frowning slightly at the strangeness, Fu Chenxiu asked: “Why aren’t you speaking?”
Hearing her husband’s voice, Mu Mian couldn’t respond, anxiously patting the phone with her little rabbit paws.
The continued silence from Mu Mian’s end, accompanied by strange sounds, made Fu Chenxiu’s frown deepen.
Mu Mian’s paw accidentally hit the end call button, disconnecting the call.
After the call dropped, Fu Chenxiu sensed something was wrong. Something must have happened. He immediately said seriously to Shi Hai:
“Call the house staff. Have them check on Mu Mian in her room.”
Shi Hai paused for a moment, realizing there must have been an issue with the wife’s call to his boss. He quickly took out his phone and dialed the house staff.
Instructing the staff to go upstairs to check on Mu Mian’s room while keeping the call connected.
The staff member went upstairs to Mu Mian’s room and knocked on the door first.
“Madam, are you in there?”
Startled by the sudden knocking, Mu Mian’s rabbit body jumped.
No! She couldn’t be discovered!
Thinking fast, Mu Mian quickly crawled into the gap under the bed to hide.
After waiting several seconds, there was still no response from inside.
The staff knocked again: “Madam, shall I come in directly?”
When there was still no response, the staff opened the door and entered. However, after searching the room thoroughly, they did not find Mu Mian and exclaimed in surprise, “Madam is not in the room! She wasn’t found in the bathroom either!”
Upon hearing the servant’s words from the other end, Fu Chenxiu’s expression instantly darkened with a terrifying intensity.
