The evening sky turned dark.

Within minutes, heavy rain poured over the Watson mansion.

The servants rushed to close the windows while the gardeners hurried to protect the flowers.Full novel: The Devil’s Contact Wife(jayfer) — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Jay stood on the balcony, watching the rain with a small smile.

“It’s been so long…”

Without thinking twice, she slipped off her sandals and ran into the garden.

The rain soaked her instantly.

She spread her arms and laughed.

A genuine laugh.

One the mansion had never heard before.

She had changed into a flowing white Anarkali with delicate silver embroidery.

The rain made the fabric sway around her as she twirled barefoot across the lawn.

The female workers watched from the porch.

Jay waved at them.

“What are you waiting for?

Come!”

They looked horrified.

“Ma’am…

Sir will be angry.”

“Then we’ll all get scolded together!”

The women looked at each other…

…and burst into laughter.

One by one, they joined her.

Soon the entire garden was filled with laughter.

One of the older maids splashed water at Jay.

“Oh!”

Jay gasped dramatically before splashing water back.

“Ma’am cheated!”

Everyone laughed.

Even the female cooks came outside.

“Mrs.

Watson!

Catch us if you can!”

Jay chased them around the fountain, laughing so hard she almost tripped.

Near the entrance…

The bodyguards stood in a perfect line.

Stone-faced.

Completely expressionless.

Jay noticed them.

She walked over with a mischievous grin.

“You all look like statues.”

No response.

She folded her arms.

“Smile.”

Nothing.

She pointed at the tallest guard.

“You.”

He blinked.

“Yes, Ma’am?”

“Come here.”

The poor bodyguard slowly walked over.

Jay suddenly splashed water on him.

Splash!

The other guards’ eyes widened.

The guard stood frozen, completely drenched.

Jay bit her lip, trying not to laugh.

“…Oops.”

Another female worker couldn’t hold it anymore.

She splashed him again.

Soon…

The bodyguards were being attacked from every direction with water.

One of them finally gave up and splashed Jay back.

“Hey!”

She laughed loudly.

“That’s more like it!”

Within seconds…

Even the bodyguards were laughing.

Felix stepped outside carrying some files.

He stopped dead in his tracks.

His serious bodyguards…

Running through the rain.

The maids…

Laughing.

And Mrs.

Watson…

Leading the chaos.

Felix pinched the bridge of his nose.

“What on earth…”

Jay spotted him.

“Felix!”

He immediately stepped back.

“No, Ma’am.”

“Oh yes.”

“No.”

She slowly picked up a bucket filled with rainwater.

Felix’s eyes widened.

“Mrs.

Watson…”

She grinned.

“Run.”

Felix actually ran.

The entire staff stared in shock.

“The assistant is running!”

Jay chased him around the fountain.

“Come back!”

“I value my life, Ma’am!”

The maids laughed until tears formed in their eyes.

Felix slipped slightly before regaining his balance.

Jay caught up—

Splash!

The bucket emptied over Felix’s head.

Silence.

Water dripped from his hair.

His glasses were covered in droplets.

Jay covered her mouth.

“…Sorry?”

Felix slowly removed his glasses.

Then…

He started laughing.

Not a small laugh.

A full, uncontrollable laugh.

The staff couldn’t believe it.

“Mr.

Felix is laughing!”

“I’ve never seen him laugh!”

Jay pointed at him dramatically.

“See?

You look younger already!”

Felix shook his head.

“Mrs.

Watson…

Sir is going to fire all of us.”

Everyone laughed harder.

From the study window…

Keifer had been watching the entire time.

His eyes followed only one person.

Jay.

The rain had soaked her white Anarkali, her long hair clinging to her shoulders as she laughed without a care.

The mansion felt…

Alive.

For the first time in years.

His lips curved upward.

A small…

Almost invisible smile.

Felix happened to look toward the window.

His eyes nearly popped out.

“He smiled…

again?”

But the smile vanished the moment Keifer noticed everyone laughing around Jay.

Especially when one young bodyguard jokingly offered her his umbrella.

Jay smiled politely.

“Thank you.”

Something inside Keifer tightened.

His jaw clenched.

The smile disappeared.

The Devil was back.

He turned away from the window.

“Felix.”

His cold voice echoed through the intercom.

Felix’s laughter died instantly.

“…Yes, Sir?”

“Send Mrs.

Watson to my study.”

“…Now.”

The line disconnected.

Felix looked toward Jay, then toward the dark study window.

He sighed.

“The storm outside is over…”

He muttered under his breath.

“…but the one inside the mansion is just beginning.”
