Wells were working on their terminals

“Did you get him?’ Cisco asked

“Nope.

He escaped, but I was able to get a sample from him” Barry shows the team, the tube with green aerated substance from him

“With this we can reverse- engineer a cure” Caitlin took the sample and took it to her lab

“Excellent work out there Dr.

Allen” Dr.

Wells praised him

“Well not excellent, I mean he did get away from me, a gaseous man not easy opponent to catch” Barry shrugged

“We will, Now that we have a sample, we’ll get to work analyzing it, figure out his weakness” Wells said, rolling away

“Or at least a way to stop him from turning into a mist.” Cisco added before he looked excited “The Mist.

Okay, that’s his name.

End of discussion.”

“For Real” Barry gave him a glance

“Better than your ‘Captain Smogg'” Cisco said sarcastically, to which Barry just shrugged

“I actually liked that one” Caitlin said with a smile

“Okay let me know when you are done, meanwhile I will be with Joe” Barry needs to protect Joe, who happens to be the officer who arrested Kyle Nimbus.

He could be his next who just happened to be with Judge Howard, the previous victim

CCPD

Joe was briefing Captain Singh, and Judge Howard.

When Barry came to CCPD they had finalized their discussion.

“Barry, is everything okay?

Did you get him?” Joe bombarded him with questions

“Yes and No” Barry answered “How is she?” Barry asked about Judge

“She is pretty rattled, we put a detail on her just in case”

“They won’t be of much help, this guy could literally become a gas.

Also one more thing he is coming after all those who caused him to be sentenced to death.

The Darbininan crime family which turned on him in court, Judge Theressa Howard who sentenced him to death, and ….”

“Me I was the one who arrested him” Joe realising the gravity of the situation.

“Don’t worry I’ll stay at your place tonight” Barry reassured him, with him he will be safe

“What about the judge?” Joe is relieved by having Barry at his side, but the judge needed saving.

“She will be fine, for now at least, but just in case I will install cameras around her.” Barry thought of a plan “And I have already given the sample to S.T.A.R.

Labs they will make an antidote soon”

“Okay lets hope…” Joe was able to collect himself, he is a cop, danger is a part of the job.

West House

Barry was meditating in his living room, as he took a deep breath, Violet-Gold lightning began to flicker around his body, before he opened his eyes and as the lightning began to speed up around his body a second version of himself appeared sitting across from him

Barry saw his clone, but it was more of lightning than a man.

The clone or Speed Clone, was just a manifestation of speed force, it could only do some simple commands, like running and it can’t last long.

It’s still a work in progress.

With a simple thought the clone merged into himself.

He resumed mediating, this time resonating with the omega effect.

Moments Later

Joe was in his room processing some evidence from his mom’s case.

Barry was cooking something in the kitchen.

He was almost done, when he heard the door open

“Iris?

Aren’t you staying at Eddie’s place?” Barry asked with a raised eyebrow, recently she has spent most nights at his place

“Me?

What about you?

Shouldn’t you be at your penthouse” Iris questioned back

“Joe needed my help with some case, also its been a while since I cooked for the family” Barry explained simply

“Awesome..

There better be some for me” Iris drooled slightly she has missed Barry’s food greatly

“So what’s the matter?” Barry asked the real reason she was here, while setting up the food

“Eddie.” Iris said, causing Barry to raise an eyebrow “He wants me to tell my dad about us.”

“So why not?” Barry questioned

“I don’t know… I am scared… about ready to take things to the next level about change, and how dad will react” Iris slumped on the sofa, Barry gave her a glass of water

“You’re a grown woman Iris, Joe tends to forget that, and that’s because you’ll always be his baby girl.

You’ve been dating Eddie for 10 months now, and if Joe finds out on his own he’ll be crushed, you can soften the blow if you tell him yourself.

If you don’t wish to tell Joe, then how serious are you about loving Eddie?” Barry asked, making Iris silent, thinking about it

Meantime Joe came down

“I smell something delicious.

Iris you back” Joe saw Iris who was lost in thought

“Dad” Iris hugged him “I thought why not keep you company today”

“Sure more the merrier” Joe shrugged he went to table, while Barry placed the final dish

The rest of the night was uneventful.

Barry double checked with Judge Theresa as well, it seemed Nimbus was rattled for the day

Next Morning

S.T.A.R.

Labs

Barry was running on the treadmill in the lab.

He decided to have a change of venue, he was running, while his thoughts flew away.

His thoughts were interrupted when he felt someone coming in.

He looked back and saw it was Caitlin.

He stopped the treadmill and got off

“Hey Good Morning” Barry greeted her, while wiping his sweat with his shirt, which showed his perfect muscle lines

Caitlin was unable to take her eyes off his abdominal muscles, she snapped out of her thoughts hearing him

“Morning Barry.

You are here early” Caitlin greeted him, usually Barry does not come here at this time

“Well I woke up a bit early this morning, so decided why not exercise a bit early” Barry told her

“What about you something on your mind” Barry noticed she wanted to say something but has been hesitating

Caitlin came over and sat on the treadmill.

Barry joined her, sitting quietly by her side.

She hesitated for a long moment, struggling to find the courage.

Finally, she spoke, her voice unsteady.

“Yesterday… when you went after Nimbus… I-I froze.

It reminded me of that night.

I was terrified I was going to lose someone else… the way I lost Ronnie.” Her breath hitched, her shoulders trembling.

“Every night since, I wake up to the sound of his voice—his last words—like they’re carved into my mind.

I can’t make them stop…” She covered her face for a second, her body tight with grief.

Barry reached out and gently took her hand, weaving his fingers through hers.

“You know… fourteen years ago, my mother was murdered.

I can still see her face, the light leaving her eyes, her skin turning cold…” His voice cracked, and he had to swallow hard to go on.

Caitlin squeezed his hand tighter, grounding him.

“Something inside me broke that night,” Barry whispered.

“And it never really healed.

I kept it all bottled up for years until one day I couldn’t anymore.

I collapsed… and when I woke up, I’d been in a coma for two days.” His eyes glistened, the memory raw even now.

“When I opened my eyes, Joe and Iris were there—crying for me.

And seeing them like that… the dam inside me just shattered.

I cried until my body gave out.

I cried until I didn’t have anything left.” He blinked rapidly, fighting back the sting of tears.

Taking a deep, shaky breath, he turned back to her.

“The pain never leaves, Caitlin.

It stays with us, like a scar.

But maybe that’s how we honor them—by carrying that ache, by remembering.

All we can do is move forward… together… even if the pain comes with us.”

Caitlin said nothing.

Instead, she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him, pressing her cheek against his chest.

The steady rhythm of his heartbeat filled her ears, grounding her in a way words never could.

“For so long,” she whispered, her voice muffled against him, “I’ve been terrified of going into that hole.

Afraid of what I’ll find if I let myself feel it all.” Her breath shuddered as the words escaped.

Barry’s hand rested gently on her back, holding her as if he knew how fragile she felt.

After a moment, he spoke softly.

“What if I went with you?” Barry said softly, extending his hand.

Caitlin hesitated only a moment before taking it.

Together, they walked down the corridor toward the particle accelerator.

At the threshold, Barry stopped, but Caitlin continued forward.

She paused, staring at the massive chamber, her voice trembling.

“He saved so many lives that day…” she whispered.

Barry stepped forward, gently resting a hand on her shoulder.

“Yes,” he said with quiet conviction.

“And he’s a hero.”

“I didn’t want him to be a hero…” Caitlin’s voice broke, tears spilling freely down her cheeks.

Barry pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly as she wept.

When she finally pulled back, Barry cupped her face, brushing away her tears with tender fingers.

He looked into her eyes, his own shining with unspoken grief and promise.

“I need you to know something, Caitlin,” he said firmly.

“You’ll never be alone.

I’ll always be here for you—whenever, wherever you need me, I’ll be there in a heartbeat”

Caitlin met his gaze, her breath catching.

His blue eyes held nothing back—sincerity, sorrow, and a vulnerability he rarely showed.

At that moment, the walls they both carried began to crumble.

Slowly, almost unconsciously, their faces drew closer.

Their lips met in a soft, trembling kiss—simple, but heavy with emotion.

When they parted, their eyes lingered on each other, and then Barry leaned in again, this time with urgency.

Caitlin responded, her arms winding around his neck as his hands settled at her waist.

They lost themselves in each other, the world around them slipping away.

But then—

BZZZT.

The intercom crackled to life.

“Caitlin, Barry—you down there?

You’ve gotta come look at this.” Cisco’s voice echoed through the chamber, shattering the moment.

They froze, still holding each other.

Caitlin’s chest rose and fell as she tried to steady her breathing, her cheeks burning.

Their eyes met, but now that the surge of emotion had passed, Caitlin felt a sudden wave of awkwardness wash over her.

She quickly looked away, embarrassed.

Barry, on the other hand, stayed quiet.

He didn’t push the moment, but inside he felt quite happy.

The kiss still lingered in his mind like a spark he couldn’t shake.

“Let’s go,” Barry said gently, breaking the silence and pulling her back from her thoughts.

Caitlin gave a small nod, her blush deepening as she fell into step behind him.

Neither spoke.

Together, they walked upstairs, Barry leading the way.

S.T.A.R.

Labs -Cortex

Barry and Caitlin arrived at the cortex, Barry was alright, but Caitlin’s mind was in a mess.

Cisco also found it weird

“Caitlin, are you alright?” Cisco asked, concerned

“I-I am fine, what did you find” Caitlin snapped out of her thoughts

“Check this out.” Cisco said standing by a monitor as Caitlin and Barry walked in “It’s a 3D molecular model of the gas you retrieved.”

“Dr.

Allen you were right, Its Hydrogen Cyanide mixed with sedative” Dr.

Wells added

“Sedative?” Caitlin looked at the model

“That sedative is used to criminals on death row before they go to the gas chamber and breathe in hydrogen cyanide” Barry explained

“I am also almost done with the antidote, now since we have confirmed I can complete the synthesis” Caitlin rushed to her lab, as if escaping, to make the cure.

“Now all that is left is to stop The Mist” Cisco added with a smirk

“Gas is the most unstable form of matter, I believe, he can’t stay in his gaseous form for long.

He must reform to his human form and that is when we can get him” Dr.

Wells came up with a plan

“That or I have another thing in mind” Barry said

Before Barry could explain he heard his phone buzz.

It was an alert, if Nimbus was spotted again around Judge Howard, and Joe happened to be with her

“Our meta is on the move, Caitlin where are we with the antidote” Barry asked in a hurry, He changed into his suit

Caitlin arrived with two syringes

“Here.

I hope you don’t get to use it” Caitlin handed him the syringes

“Be careful Dr.

Allen” Dr.

Wells cautioned

Barry nodded before disappearing

Secured Location

Kyle Nimbus had found the location of the Judge—along with his other target, Joe West.

Catching them off guard was his specialty.

He observed the patrols circling the facility.

Police officers and SWAT units were stationed everywhere, but Nimbus didn’t care.

He only wanted his revenge.

Quietly, he slipped inside, making his way to the room where Joe West and Judge Howard were staying.

“Ma’am, you’ll be safe here,” Joe reassured her.

“No, Detective… you didn’t see what I saw.

He’s not the same as before.

He’s different… more dangerous.” Judge Howard’s voice trembled.

The image of the man she had once sentenced to death—now somehow alive again—had left her shaken and sleepless.

“There’s a whole team of officers on guard, plus SWAT on standby.

This place is safe,” Joe insisted.

“No place is safe, Detective.”

The voice came from nowhere, startling both of them.

A green, gaseous form began to materialize inside the room.

“Kyle Nimbus…” Joe’s eyes widened.

Even though he had expected something like this, the sight still sent a chill through him.

He instantly pulled the Judge behind him and slammed the security alarm.

Nothing.

The alarm didn’t ring.

“You were supposed to be dead,” Joe said, stalling for time, searching for a plan.

“Right back at you.” Nimbus’s twisted smile warped as his body dissolved into hideous green vapors, rushing toward them.

Joe and the Judge bolted for the door, but it was locked.

Outside, the guards collapsed, choking—the gas had already reached them.

“No one’s coming to save you now,” Nimbus hissed, reforming into his toxic shape, preparing to strike.

Time seemed to slow.

Fear was etched across Joe’s face, Judge Howard’s panic clear in her trembling eyes.

But luck was on their side.

A streak of gold-Violet lightning blasted through the facility.

In an instant, the guards were given antidotes.

The door shattered open.

A blur scooped up Joe and the Judge, carrying them out of danger, placing them safely near the recovering officers.

Joe exhaled in relief, his heartbeat steadying.

He didn’t need to guess—it had to be Barry.

“That’s the second time…” Judge Howard muttered, shaken.

Nimbus, once again denied his revenge, roared in frustration.

His body solidified into human form, rage twisting his features.

“Ahhh!” he bellowed, but before he could lunge after them, a hand clamped around his neck.

In the next instant, he was hurled through space and slammed into an isolated clearing, rolling across the dirt.

Groaning, Nimbus pushed himself up.

His eyes narrowed as he recognized his opponent.

“You again…” His face contorted with fury.

“This time, I’ll take care of you first!”

His arm morphed into a gaseous limb, lashing toward Barry.

“You need to stay away from him, Barry.

Do not breathe him in,” Caitlin’s voice reminded through the comms.

“Barry, you’ve got to tire him out,” Cisco added urgently.

“Got it,” Barry acknowledged .

Nimbus tried to corner him, but Barry was too fast.

Every time Nimbus lunged, Barry darted away, forcing him to waste energy.

Breath by breath, Nimbus faltered, finally reforming into human shape, panting hard.

Barry seized the chance, delivering a sharp kick to his stomach, sending him crashing against a wall.

On impact, Nimbus dispersed into gas again, avoiding the worst of it.

He tried to retreat, but Barry was ready this time.

Barry’s arms spun at super-speed, generating a cyclone.

The winds roared, pulling Nimbus’s vaporous body into the vortex.

His form stretched, thinning, threatening to unravel.

“Ahhh!” Nimbus screamed, every fiber of his being straining against the pull.

At the last moment, Barry slowed, stopping just before Nimbus was torn apart completely.

The gas collapsed, condensing back into human form.

Nimbus hit the ground hard, unconscious.

“Get the cell ready,” Barry said firmly into the comms.

“We have our first guest coming.”

The team erupted in cheers on the other end.

Barry brought him to the pipeline and locked him in his cell.

“Hell yes” Cisco said high fiving Barry

Caitlin gave a small smile, she was not scared anymore.

“Cisco make sure he does not escape” Barry explained

“Dude, chill this cell is powered by an 8.3 Tesla superconducting electromagnet, which is about 100,000 times the strength of earth’s magnetic field.”

“In other words, yes.” Dr.

Wells added

“So we’re just supposed to get used to working above a makeshift prison housing evil people with superpowers.” Caitlin added sarcastically

“You’d be surprised what you can get used to, Caitlin.” Dr.

Wells added

“Well I gotta go, they need me at the CCPD” Barry said

Barry changed his clothes, and went to CCPD.

He compiled his findings on this meta-case and gave it to Captain Singh.

Judge Howard personally thanked Detective Joe and the entire CCPD.

For the first time in Barry’s time at the precinct, he saw the captain smile.

Barry thought he was hallucinating.

Also Joe found out Eddie and Iris were dating, he actually knew for a long time.

He was about to pull out his gun, but was stopped by Iris.

Right now he is giving both of them the cold shoulder.

Barry does not want to be caught in this drama so he has been avoiding them.
