The next day, a police officer stood in front of the President.

He looked terrified, nervously biting his lips.

“Sit down,” Lucien ordered in a cold voice.Full novel: The glitch — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The officer was so frightened that he struggled to process the President’s words.

“I said, sit,” the President repeated, his voice even colder than before.

The officer immediately sat down, but his legs were shaking as if he were standing in a room at minus one hundred degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the President calmly continued going through several files, making the silence in the room even more intimidating.

“Sorry, sir. We were not able to find him.”

He stopped when Lucien gave him a sharp, terrifying look, silently ordering him to shut up.

After finishing reading the files, Lucien leaned back in his chair and slightly loosened his tie.

“We did try our best to find him, but—”

“But you fail every time,” the President said while keeping his eyes closed, taking a deep breath.

“I thought I had changed this country, but now I feel I have to change this system.”

He opened his eyes and looked at the officer.

“Only the country’s appearance has changed, not the reality. The reality is still the same—that the culprit is always free in society, while the victim has to suffer trauma and pain.”

The officer looked even more nervous as he continued speaking.

“Sorry, sir,” the officer uttered.

“Go.”

He said it in a normal voice, but the officer felt as if it were a warning to save his life from him.

Lucien tried to connect all the clues.

Ryan.

His girlfriend was the prime suspect in his murder because he had been cheating on her, and she had caught him red-handed.

After that incident, she disappeared.

Ryan’s body was found at Shelly School, in the very classroom where she used to teach.

Later, Elise gave Lucien a clue—a fragment of cloth with blood stains on it.

He kept thinking about all the clues when he received a call from his designer.

“Tell me.”

“It’s from the Loro Piana brand,” the designer said, identifying the brand of the cloth fragment.

“Is it expensive?” the President asked, confused.

“Yeah. Only a rich person can afford it.”

“I see. Okay, I’ll call you later.”

He hung up the call and immediately contacted Enzo for the forensic report.

As soon as Lucien asked for it, Enzo sent the reports right away.

The report revealed that, based on the DNA found in the blood sample, the person carried genetic variants linked to psychiatric conditions.

According to the toxicology test, the individual had been undergoing treatment with antipsychotic medication, specifically Risperidone.

Lucien’s eyes narrowed as he read the report carefully.

After reading the report, Lucien concluded that he had been right about the culprit all along.

When he had first heard about the case, he had immediately told himself that this was not the act of a normal person.

It was the work of a serial killer.

Someone obsessed with killing.

Someone who found satisfaction in the deaths of others.

The more he looked at the evidence, the more convinced he became.

He knew that the culprit was a psychopath.

Then he scrolled to the next page of the report.

His eyes paused on a crucial detail.

The DNA found on the blood-stained cloth fragment matched the DNA sample in their database.

Not only that, but the fingerprints found on the most recent victim’s body were the same as those found on the cloth fragment.

Lucien’s expression darkened as he read the report.

There was no doubt anymore.

The same person had been present at the crime scene.

But strangely, the DNA did not match any criminal records in the FBI database.

That made the case even more complicated.

From the very beginning, Lucien had been certain that the culprit was no ordinary criminal.

The person behind these murders was highly intelligent.

Someone who knew exactly how to execute every step of the plan without leaving enough evidence to get caught.

Every move had been carefully calculated.

Every clue seemed deliberately controlled.

It was clear that the killer was far smarter than the average criminal.

On the other hand, Elise was getting ready to go outside.

She was wearing jeans and a striped pink shirt.

Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, and small pearl earrings adorned her ears.

She wore her watch and, as usual, carried a bag on her shoulder.

Enzo entered the room and asked her whether she was ready or not.

“Yes, let’s go.”

After hours of convincing him to go outside and help her find the truth, he had finally agreed.

The two of them got into a car and drove toward their next destination.

Elise showed him an address.

The two of them got out of the car.

“Thank God this place is still the same.”

She said while looking at the building, which was nearly abandoned.

“But tell me, why are we here?” Enzo asked.

“I won’t tell you. I’ll show you. Come.”

She grabbed his hand and led him inside.

They went up to the sixth floor.

Then they walked down the hallway and stopped in front of Apartment No. 666.

A satisfied smile appeared on Elise’s face, while Enzo looked at her with complete confusion.

“It’s locked,” he said in disappointment.

But Elise was smiling as if it was nothing to worry about.

“I know, I know. But trust me, I’m a journalist. I know how to open a door without a key.”

She proudly praised herself.

Enzo gave her an annoyed look.

“Fine, fine, Miss Journalist. Please show me your talent,” he said with a frown.

Elise stepped forward and pressed the code.

6666.

A click echoed through the hallway.

The door opened.

Enzo’s eyes widened in surprise.

He couldn’t believe she had actually unlocked the door.

She walked inside, and he quickly followed her.

“How did you know that?” he asked.

“Idiot. I was in this same building in 2026, and even then I cracked the door without a key.”

“But how?”

“It’s simple. People usually keep passwords that are easy for them to remember. Since she was a teacher, she chose something she could recall anytime.”

She pointed toward the apartment number.

“The apartment number and floor number together became the door’s password.”

She explained it briefly.

The two of them entered and closed the door behind them.

Suddenly, a sensor light turned on by itself, making both of them flinch.

They exchanged startled looks before calming down as they realized it was only a sensor light.

Elise looked around the apartment.

To her surprise, she didn’t notice any changes.

Everything seemed exactly the same as before.

She walked straight to the bedroom.

Enzo followed closely behind her.

Making her way to the wardrobe, she opened it and pointed to a spot inside.

“This is where I found the cloth fragment.”

She showed him the exact place where she had discovered it.

Enzo examined it carefully.

He checked every corner, thinking there might be a hidden door behind it, but he was wrong.

“And then what happened?” he asked.

Elise took a deep breath.

Her face suddenly turned pale, and sorrow filled her eyes.

“And then… he came.”

“Who?” Enzo asked, his curiosity growing.

On the other hand, Lucien was at the school where Ryan’s body had been found.

Everyone in the school was watching the President carefully.

For the first time, they were seeing him face to face.

He was dressed in an elegant suit.

Stylish glasses covered his eyes, while an expensive watch gleamed on his wrist.

His expression was calm and precise as he observed everything around him.

Accompanied by his secretary, he headed toward the principal’s office while she guided him through the corridors.

When they entered the office, his gaze immediately fell on a square-shaped mirror.

For a brief moment, he saw his own reflection staring back at him.

The principal invited them to sit.

Lucien quietly took his seat and carefully observed everything around him.

The books on the bookshelf were poorly arranged.

Dust had gathered on the table, and the nameplate sat slightly crooked on the desk.

The principal smiled and offered him a glass of water and some coffee.

“Thank you, but no,” Lucien replied politely.

At the same time, he subtly signaled his people with his eyes not to consume anything.

They immediately understood the message and remained silent.

“As you know, there have been many murder cases, especially Ryan’s murder.”

The President’s voice was deep and steady.

“Yes. It’s been a long time,” the principal replied hesitantly.

“Yeah. But it was only the beginning.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Why?” he asked, showing doubt as he removed his glasses.

She let out a small chuckle.

“I thought you came here for a visit, but…”

“Yeah, but people’s safety comes first. Besides, this is your school, and the victim was your teacher’s boyfriend,” he explained calmly.

The moment he finished speaking, silence settled over the room.

A heavy silence.

The principal’s smile stiffened slightly.

Lucien stopped talking and slowly scanned the room once again.

His sharp eyes moved from the bookshelf to the desk, then to the framed certificates hanging on the wall.

Every second felt unusually long.

No one dared to interrupt him.

The quiet ticking of the clock echoed through the office, making the atmosphere even more tense.

The principal unconsciously tightened her grip on the armrest while Lucien continued observing everything without saying a word.

And somehow, his silence felt far more intimidating than any question he could have asked.

“Shall we take a look around the school?” the secretary asked the principal.

The principal, who seemed slightly nervous, hesitantly agreed.

Soon, the presidential security team began touring the school.

As Lucien walked through the corridors, students secretly glanced at him.

Some admired him openly.

The entire country was a fan of him, and many students discreetly took pictures whenever they got the chance.

Then he noticed something.

He stopped walking and slowly removed his glasses.

Every building corridor had mirrors.

The same size.

The same shape.

Placed in almost identical positions.

It was strange.

Just then, a student ran up to him.

“I am a huge fan of you!”

The student excitedly stretched out his hand.

Lucien looked at him calmly before shaking it.

“Thank you.”

The student quickly asked for an autograph, which Lucien signed.

Before leaving, the student requested a selfie.

They took a picture together.

“Can I ask you something?” Lucien said after handing back the phone.

“Yeah, sure. Why not?” the student replied confidently.

“Why are there mirrors of the same size and shape everywhere?”

The student’s expression turned thoughtful.

“I don’t know. We asked our teachers about it too, but they don’t know anything either. But…”

“But what?” Lucien asked, now curious.

“Most students feel strange whenever they look at their reflection in those mirrors.”

“Why?”

The student shrugged.

“I don’t know. The strange part is that they never break. No matter how hard someone tries to break them.”

“What?”

Before Lucien could continue, the principal suddenly stepped between them.

Her expression hardened as she glared at the student.

The student immediately fell silent.

Looking frightened, he quickly ran back to his classroom.

“Did you like the school, sir?” she asked with a fake smile.

“Yeah.”

Just then, someone called him.

Lucien turned and looked at her.

“Okay. We will visit again.”

His words were simple, yet they sent chills down her spine.

Then he left.

His security team followed behind him, their footsteps echoing through the silent corridor like a distant thunderstorm.

As they disappeared from sight, an unsettling silence remained behind.

But the principal’s gaze shifted toward the mirror.

Through its reflect ion, she watched the student who had spoken to Lucien.

A slow smile appeared on her face.

A creepy smile.

The kind that made a person’s blood run cold.

It was as if she had already decided something.

As if something terrible was about to happen.
