Chapter 11: The Hotfix

THE GLITCHED MONARCH

Aria stared at Leo, her breath catching in her throat. "A... beta patch? You speak of breaking a divine curse laid by the Grand Inquisitor himself as if it were nothing more than a poorly fitted hinge on a door."

"Worse," Leo said, his eyes scanning the cascading walls of green code only he could see. "It’s a poorly optimized script. Look, every spell in this world is basically a running program. Your curse, the 'Grip of the Void Seal,' is essentially a background process that constantly queries your mana core. Every single millisecond, it checks: *Is Aria trying to channel mana?* If the answer is yes, it forcefully shuts down the core's output."

He pointed a finger at a specific, rapidly blinking line of code in his holographic display.

```
[Grip_of_the_Void_Seal.Query_Loop]
-> Interval: 1.0ms
-> Action: If Output > 0, set Core_Output = 0
```

"See that?" Leo smirked. "It's a brute-force loop. It checks every single millisecond. But because the developer who wrote this curse was lazy, they hard-coded a static interval. A human brain can't do anything in a millisecond, so to them, this is an absolute, unbreakable seal."

"But to you?" Aria whispered, hanging onto his every word.

"To a high-frequency processor? A millisecond is an eternity," Leo said, his newly boosted Intelligence stat firing on all cylinders. "We don't need to delete the curse. If I try to delete a server-side lock, the system will flag us for unauthorized modification and probably force-restart your soul. Instead, we’re going to perform a **packet injection**."

"A... packet what?"

"We are going to sneak your magic through the gaps," Leo explained. "I’m writing a local hotfix that intercepts the curse’s query. Right before the seal checks your core, my hotfix will inject a spoofed packet that says: *'Nothing to see here, mana output is totally zero.'* Then, the moment the check passes, we open the floodgates for exactly 0.9 milliseconds, before closing them right before the next check."

Aria's jaw dropped. "You... you can trick the laws of the world itself?"

"The world's laws are just software, Aria. And software is always exploitable." Leo's fingers became a blur as he tapped on the virtual keyboard of his Sandbox Engine.

```
[Writing Local Script: Aria_Mana_Spoof.py...]
[Compiling...]
[Warning: Executing unauthorized local scripts may cause mild spiritual nausea.]
```

"This might feel a little weird," Leo warned. "Ready?"

Aria took a deep, shuddering breath and closed her eyes. She gripped her bow tightly. "Do it."

Leo slammed his hand down on the virtual execute button.

```
[Injecting Patch: Aria_Mana_Spoof.py -> Target: Aria Bloodspear]
[Status: INJECTED]
[Bypass Active: 90% Efficiency]
```

*Gasps.*

Aria’s eyes snapped open, glowing with a brilliant, unfiltered violet light. She didn't just feel the warmth of Leo's mana this time; she felt a sudden, profound connection to her *own* sealed magic. Deep within her chest, her core—which had felt like a cold, heavy stone for months—began to spin.

A tiny, delicate flame of violet fire erupted from her fingertips, dancing harmlessly in the palm of her hand. It wasn't Leo's raw sapphire energy; it was her very own, pure elven fire magic.

"I... I can cast," she whispered, tears welling in her eyes as she stared at the tiny flame. "My own magic. It's back."

"Only about ten percent of your maximum output for now," Leo cautioned, checking her updated status. "The hotfix has to throttle your output so the seal's query loop doesn't detect the discrepancy. If you try to cast a high-tier spell on your own, the seal will flag the exception and shut you down again. But for low-tier utility spells? You're completely off the grid."

"Ten percent is more than enough to survive," Aria said, looking at Leo with an expression that bordered on worship. "You are... an absolute monster, Leo Vermis."

"I'm just a guy doing his job," Leo smiled, closing the console.

But before they could celebrate their successful deployment, a low, rumbling vibration shook the cave floor. From the dark forest outside, the sound of snapping branches and shouting voices carried over the howling wind.

Leo’s proximity alarm flared red.

```
[Proximity Alert: Multiple Life Signs Approaching]
-> Count: 12
-> Identifiers: House of Vermis Ironclad Guard (LVL 10-15)
-> Leader: Julian Vermis (LVL 18 - Gale Knight)
```

"Speak of the devil," Leo’s eyes narrowed as he looked out into the blizzard. "It looks like my dearest half-brother has finally noticed his cellar has a backdoor."
