In standard game physics, armor values are calculated based on outer surface collision meshes. When a sword strikes a shield, or a spell impacts a dragon's scales, the game engine registers the point of contact and mitigates the incoming damage using the target's defensive attributes.
But Leo wasn't standing on the outside.
From his out-of-bounds vantage point inside the mountain's geometric wireframe, the Obsidian-Skin Cave Bear's thick, volcanic-glass hide only existed on the exterior. Internally, the creature's 3D model was completely hollow.
"If the system doesn't render armor collision on the *inside* of a model..." Leo muttered, his eyes gleaming with cold calculation. "Then its defense value is functionally zero."
He raised his hand, aligning the Coordinate_Output_Test reticle. Instead of targeting the bear's jagged, armored back, he adjusted the depth parameter of the target vector, pushing the coordinate three inches *past* the skin, directly into the center of the beast's hollow skull.
```
[Coordinate_Output_Test]
-> Target Locked: Vector3(45.82, 12.14, -3.38) [Internal Model Coordinate]
-> Current Buffer Allocation: 200 Mana
-> Threat Status: Unaware (Critical Damage Multiplier Active: x5.0)
-> Execute? [Y/N]
```
"Two hundred mana is more than enough when you bypass the firewall," Leo whispered.
He tapped **[Y]**.
*Pop.*
A tiny, condensed bead of raw sapphire light materialized directly inside the sleeping bear's brain. There was no grand explosion, no deafening roar, and no struggle.
The bear’s massive body simply rigidified for a fraction of a second as the internal energy vaporized its vital cognitive code. The red light in its eyes instantly snuffed out. Its massive, obsidian-plated head slumped forward into the dirt, entirely lifeless.
```
[Target Neutralized: Obsidian-Skin Cave Bear (LVL 8)]
[Critical Strike! Armor Ignored (Invalid Attack Vector).]
[Experience Gained: 1,200]
[Congratulations! You have reached Level 5.]
[Attributes Increased: Strength +2, Agility +2, Vitality +2, Intelligence +2]
[Unused Stat Points: 10]
```
A glowing pile of digital-blue pixels began to rise from the bear's dissolving carcass, consolidating into tangible items on the cave floor.
Leo didn't immediately step back into the playable map. First, he checked his surroundings to ensure no other hostiles were lurking nearby. Once the coast was clear, he walked toward the boundary of the transparent cliff wall, scaled his collision box down once more, and stepped forward.
*Zip.*
The surreal wireframe world vanished. The solid stone of the cave materialized around him, dry, wind-sheltered, and remarkably warm compared to the raging blizzard outside.
He walked over to the loot left behind by the dissolved beast.
```
[Loot Acquired: Obsidian Hide Fragment x3]
[Loot Acquired: Low-Grade Beast Core (Earth Element) x1]
```
"A beast core," Leo said, picking up a rough, walnut-sized brown crystal that pulsed with a faint, warm light.
In this world, beast cores were highly valuable commodities. Mages used them to replenish their mana, blacksmiths used them to forge magical weapons, and nobles traded them like gold. For Leo, however, it was a physical data storage device.
He opened his Sandbox Engine and held the crystal close to his interface.
```
[External Hardware Detected: Low-Grade Beast Core]
-> Compressed Mana Data: 500 Units
-> Encryption: Standard Elemental Lock (Earth)
-> Access: Read-Only
```
"Read-only? Let's see about that," Leo smirked. He dragged the beast core's data file into his local system compiler, executing a basic brute-force decryption script. "If I can crack the encryption on standard elemental cores, I can use them to store my overflowing mana or rewrite their elemental attributes entirely."
Before the compiler could finish its first pass, a sudden, high-pitched alert pinged at the edge of his vision. It wasn't a system notification—it was a proximity alarm he had set up in his sandbox to monitor nearby coordinate changes.
*Ping.*
```
[Proximity Alert: Rapidly Approaching Life Sign Detected]
-> Distance: 150 Meters
-> Speed: High
-> Status: Hostile / Chasing
```
And right behind that first signal, a second, weaker life sign was fleeing toward the cave, moving erratically through the deep snow.
Leo gripped his high-density oak branch, stepping back into the shadows of the cave entrance. He peered out into the swirling white snow of the blizzard.
A figure clad in tattered, blood-stained silver armor was sprinting desperately toward his alcove. Long, pointed elven ears poked through her matted, silver-white hair, and her breath came in ragged, desperate gasps.
In her arms, she clutched a shattered wooden bow.
"Help..." she wheezed, her eyes catching the faint blue glow emanating from Leo's skin as she collapsed into the snow just paces away from the cave entrance.
Behind her, the trees of the Whispering Woods parted. Three massive, wolf-like shadows with glowing yellow eyes and jaws dripping with frozen saliva burst from the treeline, locking their gazes directly on the fallen elf.
