Luciana stayed by the Silver Rose Lake until the sun began its slow descent.

She hadn’t planned to stay that long.

At first, she had only wanted to sit for a little while after the strange blooming of the silver roses.Full novel: The Goddess Beneath The Silver Rose — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Then she had noticed how beautiful the lake looked beneath the afternoon sunlight, and somehow, one hour became two.

She sat on the grassy shore with her knees drawn up, watching the water move gently with the breeze.

The silver roses looked different during the day.

At night, they were mysterious.

Their petals seemed to glow beneath the moon, turning the entire lakeside into something almost magical.

But during the day…

They were simply beautiful flowers.

Their silver petals caught the sunlight, reflecting soft flashes of pale light whenever the breeze moved them.

Luciana leaned backward on her hands.

“So pretty…”

She had seen these flowers her entire life.

Yet somehow, today they seemed different.

Maybe because she knew she would be leaving soon.

Maybe because tomorrow was her birthday.

Or perhaps because she had suddenly realized how much she would miss this view.

She looked across the lake.

The familiar hills.

The old trees.

The little paths leading back toward the village.

Everything she knew.

Everything she had grown up with.

She quietly sighed.

“I really am leaving tomorrow.”

The words sounded strange when she said them aloud.

She had been excited about traveling for years.

She had dreamed about seeing other cities, meeting travelers, learning more about magic, tasting food she had never heard of, and perhaps getting herself into trouble along the way.

But now that the moment was actually here…

She felt a little sad.

Not enough to make her change her mind.

Just enough to make her appreciate the things she had taken for granted.

Luciana reached toward the nearest silver rose.

Its stem was slightly curved, its petals still carrying a faint shimmer from the morning’s strange bloom.

She hesitated.

“Can I?”

It was ridiculous to ask a flower for permission.

She knew that.

Still, she smiled at herself before carefully picking it.

The rose felt surprisingly soft between her fingers.

She brought it toward her face and breathed in its faint, sweet scent.

Then an idea came to her.

Luciana tucked the rose beside her ear.

She reached into her hair and adjusted it until the flower rested comfortably among her dark strands.

She turned toward the surface of the lake.

Her reflection looked back at her.

She blinked.

Then smiled.

“Oh.”

She tilted her head.

“I actually look nice.”

She laughed quietly.

A gentle breeze passed over the lake.

Her hair moved softly around her shoulders, and the silver rose trembled beside her ear.

Luciana closed her eyes for a moment.

The afternoon air was warm.

The breeze was gentle.

The lake was peaceful.

For a moment, there was nothing else she wanted.

No journey.

No mysterious dreams.

No questions about the world beyond the village.

Just this.

She opened her eyes again.

“Still…”

She glanced toward the flowers.

“The night view is prettier.”

She had always thought so.

When the moon rose over the lake and the silver roses opened beneath it, the whole place looked like a dream.

Perhaps tonight she would stay longer.

Perhaps she would watch the roses until she fell asleep.

Then she remembered that tomorrow was her birthday.

She smiled.

“Maybe that’s not such a bad way to spend my last night.”

By the time Luciana finally stood, the sun was already approaching the horizon.

She stretched her arms above her head.

“My legs are asleep.”

She looked down.

Her legs had indeed become slightly numb from sitting too long.

“Great.”

She laughed at herself and began walking toward the village.

The silver rose remained tucked beside her ear.

She didn’t notice the first villager who stopped walking.

“Luciana?”

She looked up.

“Yes?”

The woman stared at her.

Then at the flower.

Then back at Luciana.

Her eyes widened.

“Where did you get that?”

Luciana touched the rose beside her ear.

“This?”

“Yes!”

“I picked it from the lake.”

The woman looked horrified.

“You picked one?”

“Uh…

yes?”

Another villager, who had been carrying a basket nearby, hurried over.

“What happened?”

The woman pointed at Luciana.

“She has a silver rose.”

The second villager looked.

His mouth fell open.

“During the day?”

Luciana frowned.

“…Is that a problem?”

Before either of them could answer, several more villagers noticed what was happening.

Within minutes, Luciana had attracted a small crowd.

She looked around in confusion.

“What?”

One of the older villagers slowly approached.

“Luciana…”

“Yes?”

“Those roses don’t bloom during the day.”

She blinked.

“But this one did.”

“That’s exactly the problem.”

“Why?”

The villagers exchanged glances.

Nobody seemed to know what to say.

Finally, Grandma Martha arrived.

She pushed her way through the crowd.

“What is everyone shouting about?”

Then she saw the rose.

She stopped.

Her expression changed.

“Luciana.”

Luciana smiled innocently.

“Yes?”

“Where did you get that?”

“From the lake.”

Grandma Martha looked at the flower.

Then at Luciana.

Then back at the flower.

“Did you pick it yourself?”

“Yes.”

“And it was already blooming?”

“Yes.”

Grandma Martha was silent for several seconds.

Luciana became slightly nervous.

“…Did I do something wrong?”

“No.”

Grandma Martha sighed.

“You just did something very strange.”

Luciana relaxed.

“Oh.”

She thought for a moment.

“That’s normal for me.”

A few villagers laughed.

Grandma Martha shook her head.

“Those roses only bloom at night.”

“But I saw them during the day.”

“We know.”

“And there are lots of them.”

“We know.”

“And they’re pretty.”

Grandma Martha stared at her.

Luciana smiled.

“…What?”

The older woman finally laughed.

“You really are leaving tomorrow.”

“I am.”

“And apparently you’re already causing trouble before you leave.”

“I didn’t do anything!”

“You picked a flower.”

“That’s not trouble.”

“Not normally.”

The villagers began laughing.

Luciana crossed her arms.

“Everyone is making this sound much more dramatic than it is.”

One of the older men shook his head.

“Maybe so.”

He looked toward the lake.

“But if the silver roses have bloomed early…”

His expression softened.

“Then we should enjoy them while we can.”

Another villager immediately nodded.

“Exactly.”

Someone raised a hand.

“Why don’t we have a picnic tonight?”

Luciana’s eyes lit up.

“A picnic?”

“At the lake.”

“Tonight?”

“Tonight.”

Several villagers immediately became excited.

Someone suggested bringing blankets.

Someone else volunteered food.

Grandma Martha announced that she would bring pastries.

Luciana immediately pointed at her.

“Croissants?”

Grandma Martha sighed.

“Yes, croissants.”

Luciana grinned.

“I’m coming.”

“You were coming anyway.”

“True.”

The villagers laughed again.

The plan quickly grew.

What had started as a simple suggestion became an entire village event.

Someone brought fruit.

Someone prepared grilled meat.

Someone promised warm drinks.

The children began arguing over who would carry the lanterns.

And Luciana stood in the middle of all of it, smiling.

Tomorrow she would leave Cresent Roseville.

But tonight…

Tonight, she would stay.

She would sit beside the lake with everyone she loved.

She would eat too much food.

She would listen to the villagers argue over ridiculous things.

And she would watch the silver roses bloom beneath the moon.

Luciana touched the flower beside her ear.

Its petals brushed gently against her hair.

She smiled.

“Maybe this is the perfect last night.”

Far away, beneath the trees near the lake, Raizen watched the villagers gather.

His gaze settled briefly on the silver rose in Luciana’s hair.

His expression remained calm.

But something about the sight unsettled him.

The roses had responded to her wish.

That alone had been enough to confirm what he feared.

But now…

A silver rose had bloomed for her before sunset.

Raizen’s eyes narrowed slightly.

That should not have happened.

Not yet.

The awakening was beginning sooner than he expected.

He looked at Luciana.

She was laughing with the villagers, completely unaware of the significance of the flower tucked beside her ear.

For a thousand years, Raizen had waited for this moment.

And now that it had finally come…

He found himself more cautious than ever.

He didn’t approach.

He wouldn’t.

Not yet.

Instead, he watched quietly as Luciana smiled beneath the fading sunlight.

Tomorrow was her eighteenth birthday.

And tonight…

The silver roses would bloom again.
