POV The Grand Tinkerer

Since the beginning of humanity, the desire to accomplish the impossible has never faded.

Human beings have always looked toward the skies and wondered how they might fly.Full novel: The Human Prime:Marvel — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

They have gazed upon the forces of nature and wondered whether they could command them.

They have dreamed of miracles, immortality, and powers that would allow them to transcend the limitations of their own bodies.

And throughout history, many have been willing to do almost anything to achieve those dreams.

Some sought forbidden knowledge.

Others devoted their lives to discovering the secrets of the universe.

And some, unable to accomplish what they desired through their own efforts, turned to beings beyond their world, offering contracts, sacrifices, and devotion in exchange for power.

Yet none of them could have anticipated what happened when Adam made his first alteration to the human template.

He had changed his DNA just enough to allow his body to store a microscopic quantity of an energy that would come to be known as Mana.

The change was almost insignificant.

But Adam was not an ordinary human.

He was the Human Prime, the template upon which humanity was built.

Any improvement he made to himself would eventually propagate throughout the species.

Ordinarily, a change to the human template would take approximately thirty to sixty years to spread throughout the population.

But this particular alteration was exceptionally simple.

It took approximately eighteen months for the ability to awaken across humanity.

Every human being, regardless of their location, had gained the potential to harness a microscopic quantity of Mana.

Most would never recognize what had changed.

They would continue living their lives without realizing that their bodies now possessed a capacity that had not existed before.

But the potential was there.

And with it came another possibility.

Genetics was never perfectly predictable.

Mutations and deviations could produce outcomes far beyond what the original change was intended to accomplish.

In a universe where the X-gene already existed, and where the Inhumans possessed their own extraordinary biology, it was inevitable that some individuals would develop unusual variations.

Adam had given humanity the ability to hold Mana.

He had not determined everything humanity would eventually do with it.

And that distinction would change the universe.

POV Zakiti

My son had been unconscious for nearly a week.

I was beginning to worry that whatever had happened in the forest had damaged him in ways I could not understand.

Then, one morning, he opened his eyes.

His pupils were a deep, brilliant blue.

I had seen Adam do strange things before, but the expression on his face when he sat up was something entirely new.

Wonder.

Pure, unrestrained wonder.

My son had never quite behaved like a child.

He was curious, certainly, and sometimes mischievous, but there had always been something unusually composed about him.

He understood more than he could explain, and he often approached the world with the seriousness of an adult.

That morning, however, he seemed to have forgotten all of that.

“Mother! I’ve done it!”

He practically bounced where he sat.

“I made such a tiny change, and I can feel how much it means! It’s wonderful! Everyone out there will have the possibilities I’ve given them!”

He was speaking so quickly that I could barely keep up.

“Whether it’s the ability to throw a boulder the size of a hut or the ability to soar through the skies, they can do it! As long as they learn how to use the energy I’ve given them, they can accomplish the things they’ve always dreamed of!”

He took a breath, though it did little to slow him down.

“And even if it’s the smallest amount imaginable right now, I’ll make it bigger. I’ll make all of us stronger. I’ll make humanity’s wonders and dreams a reality!”

The determination in his eyes might have frightened someone who did not know him.

To me, it was almost adorable.

Here was my twelve-year-old son, making grand declarations about the future of the human race as though he had just discovered a new game.

Perhaps, to him, that was precisely what it was.

Still, I understood that he meant every word.

Adam had always possessed an instinctive desire to improve the world around him.

Now, he had discovered a way to pursue that desire on a scale neither of us could truly comprehend.

If this was his dream, then I would help him achieve it.

I had been granted eternity by the boy sitting before me.

I intended to make that eternity count.

POV Adam

The exhilaration I felt when I regained consciousness was unlike anything I had ever experienced.

I had always wanted to see more, know more, and understand more.

The strange man in the forest had shown me that there were ways of interacting with the universe that I had never considered.

His magic had allowed him to accomplish things that would otherwise have seemed impossible.

He had torn open the air and traveled through time.

And he had done it through a system of energy that I could now begin to understand.

But understanding was only the beginning.

I wanted to do more than admire what was possible.

I wanted to make those possibilities available to humanity.

My first problem was that the amount of Mana I could store was almost laughably small.

I had opened the door, but I had barely stepped through it.

Fortunately, I had another source of energy available to me.

My Eternal form.

When I transformed into an Eternal, my body could naturally generate and wield its own energy.

However, that form and my ordinary human form were separate evolutionary states.

The energy available to one did not automatically become available to the other.

I needed a way around that limitation.

So I began switching between my human and Eternal forms at an extraordinary rate, moving between them more than two hundred times per second.

Each transition allowed me to exploit the energy generated by my Eternal physiology and use it to expand humanity’s ability to accommodate Mana.

The energy produced by my own body was much easier to integrate than the unfamiliar power I had taken from the sorcerer.

It already belonged to an evolutionary path I understood.

And because I had established humanity’s ability to harness Mana, I no longer needed to create that foundation from scratch.

I could build upon it.

I continued until I had exhausted myself.

When I finally stopped, I had increased the amount of Mana my body could accommodate far beyond what I had originally managed.

I fell unconscious again.

Two hours later, I awoke with a new reservoir of energy within me.

I could sense it, but I did not yet know how to use it properly.

My Eternal form offered some clues.

When I transformed, the energy naturally manifested through the spirits of animals that accompanied me.

My mother had experienced something similar with her own abilities.

She had instinctively understood how to mark people, and later, places.

But I had no equivalent instinct telling me what to do next.

I needed someone who understood the subject better than I did.

Fortunately, I knew exactly whom to ask.

Thena.

I had not seen her in approximately a year, but she was still the most knowledgeable Eternal I knew.

I found her and asked, “Aunt Thena, since you’re a real Eternal and have lived for so long, could you explain how you use your energy? Especially how it’s different from the energy I use when I’m in my Eternal form?”

Thena tilted her head.

She seemed uncertain about why I was asking, but she answered honestly.

“My ability is the construction of weapons from my energy. Originally, I could create them only through my hands. Over time, however, I learned to extend that ability throughout my body. I can create armor, projectiles, and other constructs from different points on my body.”

She paused, considering how best to explain it.

“What I eventually learned was to make the pathways through which I channel my energy available throughout my body. It was difficult at first. I couldn’t simply do it everywhere. But after a century or more of practice, it became natural.”

I understood more from that explanation than she probably expected.

I had already examined the biological differences between humans and Eternals.

I understood the structures of their bodies, the way their blood circulated, and the mechanisms through which their energy manifested.

Thena’s explanation gave me the missing piece.

The problem wasn’t simply the amount of energy I possessed.

It was how that energy moved through my body.

I needed a pathway.

And I knew exactly where to begin.

My heart.

I gathered the Mana I had accumulated and began shaping it.

I didn’t know why the process felt so natural.

Perhaps it was because I understood my own biology so thoroughly, or perhaps it was simply another consequence of being the Human Prime.

Whatever the reason, I found that I could construct an almost perfect replica of my heart using Mana.

Once it was complete, I placed the construct directly over my physical heart, aligning the two as closely as possible.

Nothing happened.

For a moment, I wondered whether I had misunderstood something.

Then my heart beat.

I forced the Mana construct to beat in synchrony with it.

Once.

Twice.

And then something changed.

The Mana heart began operating independently, maintaining its rhythm alongside my biological heart.

With each beat, it circulated Mana through the pathways I had established within my body.

The two hearts had become one functioning system.

Not two separate organs competing for space, but a biological heart and a Mana construct working together.

I could feel the energy moving through me.

It was as though I had given the Mana inside my body a home.

A center.

A way to circulate, replenish itself, and reach every part of my being.

I called it the Mana Heart.

And as I felt it settle into its new rhythm, I realized I had done something far more significant than improve my own body.

I had created a new foundation upon which humanity could build its relationship with magic.

POV The Grand Tinkerer

Humanity began to change.

At first, the effects were subtle.

People became healthier without understanding why.

Some recovered from exhaustion more easily.

Others found that their bodies could withstand physical exertion better than before.

The changes were small enough that most people attributed them to good fortune, divine favor, or the natural resilience of the human body.

But the Mana was there.

And slowly, people began to discover what it could do.

A warrior performed a chant asking for strength before battle.

Once, the chant would have been little more than a ritual intended to inspire courage.

Now, the warrior felt his muscles strengthen.

His body responded to the belief that the chant would work, and the Mana within him helped turn that belief into reality.

It was not the words themselves that possessed power.

It was the combination of intention, belief, and the ability to direct Mana toward a desired outcome.

Humanity had taken its first steps toward magic.

The initial benefits were primarily physical.

Mana could reinforce the body, improve health, and support the mind.

Those who possessed imagination and the determination to act upon it could achieve considerably more.

But the true beneficiaries had yet to emerge.

Among the mutants, the Inhumans, and other individuals whose biology already differed from ordinary humanity, the effects were far more pronounced.

Their unusual physiology gave Mana new ways to manifest.

Mutants with the right inclinations began to display abilities that combined their existing powers with this newly accessible energy.

Inhumans discovered that their bodies could interact with Mana in ways that ordinary humans could not easily replicate.

The first mutant sages and Inhuman mages emerged.

They were not necessarily the first humans to wield magic, but they were among the first to demonstrate just how extraordinary it could become.

The consequences extended beyond individual people.

Rituals that had once been primarily symbolic began to produce tangible results.

Practices performed for generations could now channel Mana when accompanied by sufficient belief, intention, and the right circumstances.

Communities found that ceremonies intended to bring rain, protect a settlement, or strengthen their warriors occasionally produced effects that could not be explained by coincidence alone.

Even the gods began to notice.

Human worship had always mattered to many divine beings, but now humanity possessed a means of directing its own energy through belief and ritual.

Some of the younger gods found themselves receiving something unexpected from their worshippers.

Not merely reverence, but power shaped by a new magical system.

Humanity had changed the relationship between itself and the supernatural.

And this was only the beginning.

Of course, the individual who benefited most immediately was Adam.

There was no need for his alterations to spread through the population.

He was the source of the changes.

His body adapted directly.

In his ordinary human form, he possessed the physical conditioning of someone who had trained for years.

His body maintained itself with extraordinary efficiency, and his energy levels remained high even without the food and rest an ordinary human would require.

The Mana Heart allowed him to circulate and use his energy with increasing ease.

And as humanity gradually learned to manipulate Mana, Adam instinctively developed a deeper understanding of how it could be used.

Yet there was something about his discovery that even he had not fully recognized.

The energy he had incorporated into his Mana system was not entirely ordinary Mana.

It carried elements of the cosmic energy generated by an Eternal.

In combining the two, Adam had created something that did not obey all the limitations ordinarily associated with either system.

The Mana was no longer constrained in quite the same way.

The cosmic component had altered the rules under which it could operate.

For most humans, this would not immediately result in extraordinary abilities.

Their Mana reserves were small, their understanding limited, and their ability to direct their energy depended heavily on practice, imagination, and will.

The average person might experience better health, slightly greater strength, or improved endurance without ever realizing that magic was responsible.

But Adam was different.

He could sense the energy, understand its structure, and modify the template through which it operated.

For him, the possibilities were almost limitless.

If he could find more energy, he would use it.

If he could not find more energy, he would change his body to make better use of what he already possessed.

And if the human body itself was the limitation, he would change the human body.

He had already given humanity the ability to hold Mana.

Now, he wanted to discover how far the human body could be improved.

His next objective was clear.

He would begin with the ordinary human body’s comfort, health, and survivability.

It was time to improve humanity from the inside out.

Authors note

Keep in mind this is still a Marvel fic, so I don’t know how this is going to affect much of the timeline, especially just what happened in this chapter

Hey, I just want to ask a few questions.

I don’t think anyone is going to answer them but I just want to get them off my chest.

Four things that will that I have to bring up first is the black death and how he will deal with that

Second is the French Revolution, not stopping the revolution as in stopping the amount of Bloodshed that happened with the guillotine and all that.

Third the world war; he can sense when a large amount of death will happen and he might even stop the First World War, which I’m still debating

Fourth is the hardest one: World War 2 and the adjacent events, such as the holocaust, Hiroshima, and how Captain America will come to be.
