Golden light poured through tall stained-glass windows, scattering colors across the marble floor.
The ten chosen stood in the center of the hall, waiting for their assignments.
At the far end, a royal officer stepped forward holding a glowing scroll.
“You are not here as nobles,” he said firmly.
“You are here as instruments of the Crown.”
His voice echoed through the chamber.
“Your mission will be divided into groups of four.”
A tense murmur passed through the candidates.
Jasmina stood still.
Ten chosen.
Two groups of four.
One mission.
The officer raised his hand.
“Group One.”
Three names were called.
Then—
“Jasmina of House Ella.”
She stepped forward.
The officer continued.
“Kael Durn.”
A quiet boy with steady eyes moved into place beside her.
“Lyra Vennor.”
A sharp-eyed girl with braided hair followed.
“And—”
Before he could finish, a voice rang out from the side entrance.
“FINN ROWAN!”
A boy jogged in casually, slightly out of breath.
“Sorry,” he said.
“I was negotiating my way out of being early. Didn’t work.”
The officer stared at him.
“You are late.” Follow the newest chapters on g.com.
Finn nodded.
“Noted.”
Jasmina blinked at him.
This was her fourth group member.
Too talkative.
Too relaxed.
Too fearless.
The officer exhaled sharply.
“Group One is complete.”
He gestured toward the inner chamber.
“Follow.”
They obeyed.
The four were led deeper into the council hall, where a glowing circular map hovered above the marble floor.
It shifted constantly, showing kingdoms, borders, and seas.
The officer pointed.
“Your assignment is the Crown Palace infiltration division.”
Jasmina frowned slightly.
“Infiltration?”
The officer did not react.
“You will enter the Crown Palace disguised as servants. Specifically… as maids within the inner service staff.”
A silence fell instantly.
Finn blinked.
“So… we clean things while spying?”
“Yes,” the officer said flatly.
Lyra narrowed her eyes.
“That is dangerous.”
“All missions are dangerous,” he replied.
Kael remained silent, but his expression tightened.
The officer continued.
“You will observe, listen, and report anything related to the Werewolf Kingdom delegation currently residing within the palace.”
Jasmina’s chest tightened slightly.
Werewolves. You are reading on g.com, the official source.
Inside the Crown Palace.
“And,” the officer added, “you will maintain close proximity to royal activity, including King Adrian Ashwolf.”
The name landed heavily in the room.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then Finn whispered, “That sounds like someone who would notice if you breathe wrong.”
Kael replied quietly, “He would.”
Lyra added, “Focus.”
But Jasmina barely heard them.
Adrian Ashwolf.
The Werewolf King.
The mission suddenly felt sharper.
Closer.
Real.
The officer lowered the scroll.
“Your cover identities will be provided before sunset. You will enter the palace service quarters by tomorrow evening.”
A pause.
“From this moment onward, you are no longer nobles.”
His gaze swept over them.
“You are invisible.”
The glowing map dimmed.
Dismissal.
As they were led out, Finn leaned slightly toward Jasmina.
“So,” he whispered, “we’re basically royal spies in aprons?”
Jasmina shot him a look.
“Stop saying it like that.”
“What? I’m just summarizing the trauma.”
Despite everything, Jasmina exhaled a small laugh.
