After some time cin and rakki left because they had to visit their ice house.

I looked at kiefer.

He was quietly drinking coffee.

All the food was finished.

Oh.

But where is dessert.

“Waiter” I called out.

Kiefer looked at me and raised his eyebrows.

I said ” nothing.”

He nobbed in reply.

Finally the waiter came.

“You called me mam.”

I said “I want menu”

He give me the menu.

And started checking.

There was not that many options for the dessert.

So I just ordered orange juice.

I sigh and sadly bow my head.

Kiefer looked at me and said “what’s with the face.”

I looked at him and said ” they don’t have ice.”

He laughed and said “don’t be sad.

I will buy u an ice cream.

But first finish your juice.”

I happily clapped my hands and nobbed.

Ice cream.

Yay.

Yum yum yum 😋.

After the some time my juice arrived.

I holded the glass with both of my hands.

After drinking the juice.

The bill arrived.

Of the juice.

I was going to pay the bill but suddenly kiefer slapped my hand and said ” I will pay.”

I looked at him.

Okay.

You want to then pay.

After that we both went to eat ice cream.

Yay.

I looked at him and said ” the ice cream is my treat.

Okay.”

He said without looking at me ” are u dumb.

No.

I will pay.

Your duty is eating and mine is paying.

”

I looked at him and said “don’t u dare complain later.

That u have to give my money.

When are u going to pay me.” I maked faces while saying.

He started laughing.

Then he said ” I will not.

Don’t worry.”

“Promise?.” I said

He replied “promise”

After walking few secounds we finally reached the shop.

It was not that big shop.

We both went inside.

Wow the interior is nice.

It is so elegant.

Nice ideas.

We both sit on the table.

It was next to window.

A waiter came and gived us a menu.

Wow.

They have a lot of varieties.

It is a torture.

I want to eat everything.

Like every dessert.

After an eternity I finally decided.

I am going to order an creamy vanilla with a thick shell of rich chocolate that cracks when u bite served on a waffle cone with chocolatr dipping on the side

Yay.

I love sweets.

I looked outside the window.

The rain has started.

Wow.

Rainy day.

Yay.

It is going to be fun.

Suddenly kiefer said “I will drop u.”

I said “it is okay.

I can go.

And don’t argue with me okay.”

He raised his hands and said “okay”

I just laughed.

We both started eating.

After eating and teasing each other.

We said goodbyes to each other.

I put my headset and started walking.

The streetlights flickered above her.

Buzzing.

One of them was half-dead, casting long, broken shadows across the wet road.

It had rained earlier.

The air smelled like asphalt and cold metal.

She was walking.

Just walking.

Earphones in.

Playlist on repeat.

A sad song she’d played three times already.

Mind a thousand miles away.

Thinking about nothing.

Thinking about everything.

Cars passed behind her.

She didn’t turn.

Footsteps echoed.

She didn’t notice. Get faster updates on g.com.

The world kept moving, but she was somewhere else.

Until the sound changed.

An engine.

Low at first.

Then rising.

Then _screaming_.

Tires on wet pavement.

Fast.

Too fast.

She still didn’t look up.

Until a shadow fell over her.

Until someone on the sidewalk shouted.

*”WATCH OUT!!”*

Her head snapped up.

And there it was.

Metal.

Chrome.

Headlights like twin suns.

A car.

Full speed.

No brakes.

No swerving.

Coming straight for her.

Time didn’t slow down.

It stopped.

Her body locked.

Her legs turned to stone.

Her heart forgot how to beat.

She froze.

Right there.

In the middle of the road.

Eyes wide.

Chest not moving.

Like if she didn’t move, maybe it wouldn’t be real.

But she couldn’t hear.

All she could hear was the roar.

The wind.

The pounding in her ears.

All she could see was death, 3 seconds away.

Then — movement.

A blur.

Desperate.

Fast.

Reckless.

*Kiefer.*

He didn’t think.

He didn’t calculate.

He just _ran_.

He launched himself off the sidewalk, shoes slipping on the wet road.

“GET DOWN!”

His arms locked around her waist.

He yanked her sideways with everything he had.

They hit the ground.

Hard.

Concrete tore at her palms.

His shoulder slammed into the pavement first, taking the impact for both of them.

He rolled, covering her body with his, shielding her head with his arm.

For half a second, there was quiet.

She thought, _we’re okay.

We’re okay._

Then physics caught up.

Her head snapped back.

And hit the ground.

_THUD._

Violent.

Sickening.

Final.

Pain exploded.

White.

Hot.

Blinding.

It shot from the back of her skull down her spine and out through her fingertips.

Her vision flashed.

Streetlights.

Stars.

Nothing.

“CALL AN AMBULANCE!

NOW!”

“OH GOD THERE’S BLOOD—”

Voices.

Distant.

Muffled.

Like she was underwater.

She couldn’t feel her body.

She could only feel his hands.

The last thing she saw was Kiefer above her.

On his knees in the middle of the road.

His face was pale.

Completely drained of color.

Rain and tears were on his cheeks.

His hands were shaking so badly as he cupped her face, like he was afraid she’d break.

His mouth was open.

Screaming.

“NO!

NO!

NO!

STAY WITH ME!

PLEASE!

OPEN YOUR EYES!

LOOK AT ME!”

“BABY, PLEASE!

DON’T DO THIS!

DON’T LEAVE ME!”

His voice cracked on the last word.

Broke completely.

A sob tore out of him and he pressed his forehead to hers, uncaring of the blood on the ground, uncaring of the people around.

“Please.

I’m right here.

I’m not letting go.

I promise I’m not letting go—”

Tears fell from his eyes onto her cheeks.

Warm.

Heavy.

Her vision blurred again.

The gold of the streetlights stretched and melted.

The screaming faded into a dull ringing.

Her chest rose.

Fell.

Rose again.

Slower.

And then…

Darkness.

She went unconscious.

In his arms.

While cars honked, people cried, and sirens started in the distance.

While the whole world kept moving.

And time…

time froze.

Sirens wailed in the distance.

People were terrified.

But Kiefer heard none of it.

Because the girl in his arms…

had gone unconscious.

And the world around them had frozen.

Paramedics shoved through the crowd.

“Move!

We need to move!”

Kiefer didn’t let go.

They had to pry his fingers off her one by one.

His hands were covered in her blood.

His knuckles white.

“Don’t touch her!

Don’t— I’m not done holding her!” His voice was hoarse.

Destroyed.

“Sir, we need to get her to the hospital.

Now.”

The words hit him like another crash.

He stood up on shaky legs as they lifted her onto the stretcher.

The sheet was already turning red.

Her face was so pale.

So still.

And she wasn’t looking at him anymore.

The ambulance doors opened.

They started loading her in.

That’s when it broke him.

“WAIT!”

He lunged forward and grabbed the edge of the stretcher.

His whole body was shaking.

“Please,” he whispered.

Then louder, desperate.

“PLEASE!

Let me go with her!

Please don’t take her without me!”

A paramedic put a hand on his shoulder.

“You can follow in another car, okay?

We’ll take care of her.”

Kiefer nodded, but he wasn’t listening.

His eyes never left her face.

As the doors started to close, he pressed both palms against the cold metal and screamed.

Not words.

Not her name.

Just a sound.

Raw.

Gutted.

Like his chest was being ripped open.

“NOOOO!!!”

The ambulance pulled away, red and blue lights cutting through the rain.

And he was left standing in the middle of the road.

Alone.

Rain poured down his face.

Or maybe it was tears.

He couldn’t tell anymore.

His shirt was soaked with her blood.

His hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

He sank to his knees right there on the wet asphalt.

Right where her head had hit.

Right where the blood was still spreading.

And he broke.

He buried his face in his hands and sobbed.

Violent, ugly, heartbreaking sobs that tore out of his throat.

“Why didn’t I get there faster?!

Why didn’t I see the car?!”

“It’s my fault!

It’s all my fault!”

People tried to come to him.

Tried to touch him.

He flinched away.

Because the only person he wanted to touch…

was in the back of that ambulance.

Fighting to stay alive.

He stayed on his knees for a long time.

Staring at the empty road.

Whispering her name over and over into the night.

“Please come back to me.

Please.

Please.

Please.”

And above him, the streetlight kept flickering.

Like even it couldn’t believe what had just happened.

The world had moved on.

But for Kiefer…

time was still frozen.
