She said yesterday she wanted to marry me.

Ji Sicheng had initially agreed to the engagement with Second Young Miss Lin solely because he coveted the power behind her.Full novel: The Little Peach Spirit in the Big Shot’s Palm is Too Cute — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

No one knew why Old Master Lin cherished this granddaughter retrieved from the countryside so dearly, having given her 30% of the Lin Group’s shares. These would be transferred to the groom’s family as part of her dowry upon marriage.

Moreover, the Lin family possessed not only wealth and influence but was also rumored to be backed by a mysterious organization with supernatural abilities…

He was tempted…

Even though this Second Miss Lin was as scrawny as a chick, utterly lacking in charm.

…

Originally thinking Second Miss Lin had died after jumping into the river, Ji Sicheng had shifted his attention to the far more beautiful Eldest Miss Lin. But unexpectedly, Second Miss Lin had survived the ordeal, and Old Master Lin had become even more protective of her.

Considering this, he still had to choose Second Miss Lin.

In Ji Sicheng’s eyes, benefits came first.

But at this moment, his attitude struck Lin Jinyi like a bolt from the blue! Her pupils trembled, cheeks twitching, face turning purple with speechless fury.

Wang Ling, however, reacted quickly and immediately “reminded” Ji Sicheng: “Our Tao Tao really isn’t suitable for you! She’s only been back with the Lin family for over a year, hasn’t properly learned the required etiquette and rules, barely received any education, and there’s that matter with the Duan family… Even if your Ji family doesn’t mind, our Lin family can’t afford such shame!”

What kind of mother would say such things about her own daughter to the man she loved?

Even someone as composed as A Tao frowned at this, pitying the original host for having such an extraordinary mother.

A Tao, who had been carefully wiping her feet, casually tossed the damp, dirty towel aside. Coincidentally, it landed with a “smack” right on Wang Ling’s face.

By the time Wang Ling furiously brushed the towel away, her lipstick had smeared from her lips to her chin and cheeks. Combined with her flushed face, she looked as ridiculous as a clown.

“You… you… you! Did you do that on purpose!?”

A Tao shook her head: “It was an accident.”

Old Master Lin also glared at Wang Ling: “You have no dignity! I never should have allowed you into the Lin family in the first place!”

The hospital room fell silent. Old Master Lin reached out to pat his granddaughter’s head but, seeing her lounging comfortably, ultimately withdrew his hand: “Tao Tao, your marriage is your decision.”

“I’m not interested in him.” A Tao tucked her clean feet back under the blanket.

Hearing this, Lin Jinyi was stunned. While feeling somewhat relieved, she also thought this person was putting on an act as usual—who did she think she was?

How could someone as ugly as her have the right to reject Sicheng brother? Sicheng brother was just pitying her, and she had the nerve to play hard to get? What a colossal joke!

Wang Ling’s eyes gleamed again: “Ahaha, see? I told you you’re not suitable. After Tao Tao recovers, why don’t we discuss things with the Duan family and fulfill her wish!”

Ji Sicheng had originally been confident about securing Second Miss Lin, knowing this country girl was completely infatuated with him. Usually, just exchanging a few words with her would make her ecstatic for half the day, as if he’d bestowed some great favor.

As for the matter with the Duan family, that was just a rumor spread by Wang Ling.

But now, what was going on? Had the country bumpkin really damaged her brain when she fell in the river?

This matter required careful reconsideration.

After observation at the hospital confirmed no major health issues, A Tao returned to the Lin family with Old Master Lin.Early the next morning, a group of people gathered outside the Lin family’s iron fence. Dressed in black suits and wearing sunglasses, they looked imposing at first glance, almost as if they had come seeking revenge.

Old Master Lin approached the gate with his butler. The men in black, who had been clustered together, parted neatly down the middle, forming two lines and clearing a path.

In the center, one of the men in black pushed a wheelchair, and seated prominently in it was a man wearing a black shirt.

The shirt was made of silk, shimmering under the sunlight, much like the man’s pale, almost translucent skin.

The only clue to the man’s identity was the black silk ribbon covering his eyes. It fluttered lightly in the breeze, mirroring Old Master Lin’s own tangled thoughts…

Old Master Lin had already pieced things together. Though he didn’t open the large iron gate, his tone remained polite: “Is that Young Master Duan? What brings you to my home today?”

The man in the wheelchair was still coughing before he finally spoke: “I’m here to see Second Miss Lin.”

“Oh? What business does Young Master Duan have with my granddaughter? She isn’t feeling well and can’t come out, but I can relay a message.”

“Hmm…” Duan Yuan got straight to the point, “I’ve come to ask Second Miss Lin to fulfill her promise. She said yesterday that she would marry me.”
