A sleek black Maybach rolled to a stop outside a quiet, lonely graveyard.

The door opened, and a young man stepped out.

He was dressed in a sharp black two-piece suit over a crisp white shirt.Full novel: The Lone Sword Against Heavens — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

In one hand, he carried three flower bouquets; in the other, a bottle of wine.

It was Lan Hai.

Without a word, he walked through the silent graveyard until he stopped before the graves of his mother, Mu Chen, and Xia Qinue.

His eyes were filled with loneliness and sorrow.

Today, he had come to bid them his final farewell.

Tomorrow, he would leave Earth, and he didn’t know if he would ever return.

One by one, Lan Hai gently placed a bouquet on each grave.

Then he uncorked the bottle of wine and slowly poured it onto the ground before them.

After a long silence, he finally spoke.

Lan Hai: “Mother… you raised me to become a good person. You gave me every bit of happiness you could. You always protected me from every hardship, yet I was never able to repay everything you did for me. Even if I devoted my entire life to it… it would never be enough.”

He slowly turned toward Mu Chen’s grave.

Lan Hai: “Mu Chen… you never treated me as just a friend. You always treated me like your own brother. Honestly… I don’t think anyone loved this brother of yours more than you did.”

A faint, bittersweet smile appeared on his face.

Lan Hai: “Do you know? Today I met Uncle Mu Tian. He told me that if you were still alive, you would have shared your family’s entire inheritance with me… Did you really care about me that much?”

As those words left his lips, tears slowly rolled down his face for the first time in months.

He quietly walked over and sat beside Xia Qinue’s grave.

Lan Hai: “Are you listening, Qinue? Do you see what Mu Chen did for me… and how much my mother sacrificed for my sake? You gave me so much love. You never tried to hide your feelings from me. But my fate was so cruel… that by the time I finally accepted your love… you had already left this world.”

Lan Hai drew a slow, heavy breath.

His gaze moved across all three graves before him.

Lan Hai: “I came here to tell you one last thing. Maybe after today… I’ll never be able to visit you again. From this moment onward, I’m about to walk a path whose end I cannot see. Once I take that first step… there’s no telling if I’ll ever return to Earth.”

He lowered his head.

Lan Hai: “Tell me… should I go? If I choose this path… I may never come back. So tell me… should I leave?”

After asking those words, Lan Hai slowly closed his eyes.

At that very moment, a gentle breeze drifted through the graveyard, softly brushing against his face and rustling his hair.

Lan Hai quietly smiled.

He understood.

His mother was telling him to move forward.

Almost at the same instant, Mu Chen’s familiar voice seemed to echo beside him.

Mu Chen (Echoing Voice): “Go, my brother… we’re all with you.”

Lan Hai’s eyes snapped open, and he instinctively looked around.

The graveyard was completely silent there was no one there.

Then, another image appeared before his eyes.

He saw Xia Qinue walking beside him, gently holding his hand.

She looked at him with the same warm smile he remembered so well.

Xia Qinue (Vision): “You should go, Lan Hai. I’ll stay here and take care of your mother and Mu Chen. Don’t worry about us.”

The vision slowly faded.

Lan Hai stood there in silence for a long moment.

Then he gently wiped away the tears on his face.

When he looked at the three graves again…

His eyes were no longer filled with hesitation.

Only unwavering resolve remained.

Lan Hai looked at the three graves one last time.

His voice was calm, yet every word carried an unshakable resolve.

Lan Hai: “I, Lan Hai, make a solemn promise to all of you… I will bring you back.”

He slowly clenched his fists.

Lan Hai: “No matter what form you take… no matter which cycle of reincarnation your souls enter… I will find you.”

His eyes burned with unwavering determination.

Lan Hai: “Even if I have to overturn the very laws of reality… I will do it.”

He took a slow, deep breath before continuing.

Lan Hai: “Even if I have to travel across time and space itself… no matter how many years… centuries… or millennia it takes…”

He lowered his head respectfully before the three graves.

Lan Hai: “I will bring every one of you back.”

A gentle breeze swept across the graveyard once more.

Lan Hai closed his eyes briefly before opening them again.

There was no hesitation left in them.

Only determination.

With that eternal promise engraved into his heart, he quietly turned around and walked away from the graveyard.

By the time he returned home that evening, he found Sovereign Han Ji Shen standing in the kitchen, quietly preparing dinner.

Lan Hai: “Master, why are you cooking by yourself? You could have just called me. I would have prepared everything.”

Han Ji Shen smiled faintly as he continued cooking. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.

Han Ji Shen: “I wanted to do it myself. After all, today is our final day on Earth. I wanted us to leave with one last good memory.”

Lan Hai nodded in understanding.

Lan Hai: “I see… So, what time are we leaving?”

Han Ji Shen: “Tomorrow morning, at exactly three o’clock.”

Lan Hai glanced at the wall clock.

Lan Hai: “Master… we only have five hours left.”

Han Ji Shen: “Then throw away any mortal clothes you don’t wish to keep. I’ve already stitched a new set of clothes for you.”

Lan Hai looked at him curiously.

Lan Hai: “Master, why? Aren’t Earth’s clothes good enough?”

Han Ji Shen shook his head.

Han Ji Shen: “It’s not that they’re bad. But you’re going to my world. If the two of us walk around wearing Earth’s jeans and shirts, everyone will think we’ve lost our minds.”

A faint smile appeared on Lan Hai’s face.

Han Ji Shen continued,

Han Ji Shen: “The clothes worn on cultivation planets possess special properties. They never become dirty, nor do they tear easily. They’re woven from a unique type of spiritual thread.”

Lan Hai’s curiosity immediately grew.

Lan Hai: “So… did you bring that spiritual thread with you?”

Han Ji Shen chuckled and shook his head.

Han Ji Shen: “No. For now, I simply used the fabrics available on Earth to stitch a few robes for you. I had no other choice. The pressure of traveling through open space would tear ordinary clothes apart.”

Lan Hai nodded thoughtfully.

Lan Hai: “I understand. But… space has no oxygen. How are we supposed to survive the journey?”

Han Ji Shen carried two steaming bowls of chicken noodle soup to the table and placed one in front of Lan Hai.

Han Ji Shen: “Come. Let’s eat while I explain.”

The two of them sat down.

Han Ji Shen picked up his chopsticks before continuing.

Han Ji Shen: “You’re right. An ordinary human cannot survive in the vacuum of space, but…”

He suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

Lan Hai looked at him curiously.

Lan Hai: “But what, Master?”

Han Ji Shen smiled faintly.

Han Ji Shen: “Do you really believe that Earth is the only planet with oxygen?”

Lan Hai nodded honestly.

Lan Hai: “Yes… I always thought it was.”

Han Ji Shen couldn’t help but laugh.

Han Ji Shen: “I expected that answer. You’ve never looked beyond this single galaxy. The truth is, countless life-bearing planets possess their own atmospheres. Earth is far from the only world where life exists.”

He took another sip of his soup before continuing.

Han Ji Shen: “Compared to the people of Earth, the humans living on cultivation planets are thousands of times stronger. Even an ordinary person there possesses physical abilities far beyond what the people of Earth could ever imagine.”

Lan Hai was completely stunned.

Everything he had believed about the universe was being overturned.

Han Ji Shen continued calmly,

Han Ji Shen: “That is why, before we leave, I’ll place a protective spell on your body. It will shield you from the vacuum of space and allow you to survive the journey safely. Once we arrive within my galaxy, you won’t need to worry anymore.”

Lan Hai nodded.

Lan Hai: “I understand, Master.”

Han Ji Shen studied Lan Hai’s expression for a long moment.

There wasn’t the slightest trace of happiness on the young man’s face.

Only silence.

Finally, he spoke.

Han Ji Shen: “Lan Hai… I’ve been watching you for quite some time now. There isn’t even the slightest hint of happiness on your face. Why?”

Lan Hai lowered his eyes.

His voice remained calm, but every word carried the weight of endless sorrow.

Lan Hai: “Master… the people who gave me happiness are no longer by my side. Since the day they left me… I’ve had only one goal in life.”

He slowly clenched his fist.

Lan Hai: “No matter what it takes… I will bring them back.”

Han Ji Shen looked at him quietly.

At that moment, he understood something clearly.

The young man sitting before him was no longer an ordinary human.

He was a wounded tiger.

And a wounded tiger was the most dangerous beast of all.

After a brief silence, Han Ji Shen spoke in a steady voice.

Han Ji Shen: “I understand… and I’m not going to tell you to forget them. If you ever forgot them, you would never be able to fulfill the promise you made—to me or to them.”

He paused before continuing.

Han Ji Shen: “But always remember one thing.”

His gaze became sharp.

Han Ji Shen: “Turn this pain into your greatest strength… never your greatest weakness. So that if fate ever places you in the same situation again, you’ll possess the power to stop it with your own hands.”

Lan Hai: “Master… I’ll remember your words for the rest of my life.”

A faint smile appeared on Han Ji Shen’s face.

Han Ji Shen: “Good. Now finish your meal. We need to get some rest. We leave at three o’clock in the morning.”

A little while later, the two of them returned to their respective rooms.

After entering his room, Lan Hai lay down on his bed and glanced at the clock.

It was already 1:00 AM.

Only two hours remained before they would leave Earth forever.

He didn’t even try to sleep.

Instead, he quietly stood up and carefully picked up the photograph of his mother, the photograph of himself with Mu Chen, and the photograph of Xia Qinue.

He packed them safely with his belongings before slipping the silver Buddhist bracelet Mu Chen had once given him onto his wrist.

Then he stepped out onto the balcony.

He stood there silently, gazing at the sleeping city.

These were the final moments he would ever spend on Earth.

Time passed quietly.

Then Han Ji Shen’s voice called out from inside the house.

Han Ji Shen: “Lan Hai.”

Lan Hai: “Yes, Master.”

Han Ji Shen: “Get ready. It’s time for us to leave.”

Lan Hai: “Yes, Master.”

Within a few minutes, Lan Hai took a quick shower and changed into the clothes Han Ji Shen had prepared for him.

As he walked downstairs, Han Ji Shen’s eyes suddenly grew moist.

Lan Hai was wearing the robe that had once belonged to Han Ji Shen’s late son—a traditional purple cultivator robe adorned with elegant golden embroidery.

For a brief moment, it felt as though his son were standing before him once again.

Lan Hai noticed the change in his master’s expression.

Lan Hai: “Master… is something wrong?”

Han Ji Shen quickly composed himself and gently shook his head.

Han Ji Shen: “It’s nothing.”

After a brief pause, he asked,

Han Ji Shen: “Where’s your luggage?”

Lan Hai: “I’ve packed everything into one bag.”

Han Ji Shen reached into his pocket and took out a strange ring that emitted a faint glow.

He handed it to Lan Hai.

Han Ji Shen: “Put your bag inside this Storage Ring.”

Lan Hai looked at the tiny ring in confusion.

Lan Hai: “Master… how can something this small hold an entire bag?”

Han Ji Shen smiled faintly.

Han Ji Shen: “It’s a Storage Ring. Once you begin cultivating, I’ll teach you how to access and control the space within it.”

Lan Hai: “Alright.”

The moment Lan Hai placed his bag against the ring, it instantly disappeared.

Han Ji Shen looked toward the balcony.

Han Ji Shen: “Come. It’s time.”

Before leaving, Han Ji Shen quietly cast a protective spell over Lan Hai’s body.

The two of them stepped onto the balcony together.

Lan Hai turned around one final time and looked at the house where he had spent his entire childhood.

After a long silence, he spoke softly.

Lan Hai: “Let’s go, Master.”

Han Ji Shen gently grabbed Lan Hai’s shoulder, and the two of them slowly rose into the night sky.

High above the clouds, a magnificent chariot suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Three majestic Qiling Dragons were harnessed to its front, their immense bodies radiating an ancient and noble aura.

The chariot itself resembled a royal throne capable of changing its form at will.

This legendary vessel was known as The Immortal Qiling Chariot.

Han Ji Shen looked at Lan Hai.

Han Ji Shen: “Are you ready, Lan Hai?”

Lan Hai: “Yes, Master.”

The two of them stepped into the chariot.

In the very next instant, the Immortal Qiling Chariot vanished from Earth’s skies and flashed toward the endless sea of stars.

Lan Hai had lost everything he once held dear.

Now, he was nothing more than a lone mortal who had chosen to defy the Heavens, slaughter Demons, and pursue a single, unwavering goal—

To bring back the people he loved.

He had no idea how long that journey would be, nor how many dangers awaited him.

But one thing was certain.

Anyone who dared stand in his way…

Would either kill him…

Or be erased by him.
