Damien couldn’t move.
For three years, he had believed his brother was dead.
Now Marco stood before him.
Alive.
Breathing.
And staring directly into his eyes.
“Marco…”
His voice came out barely above a whisper.
Marco’s expression remained cold.
“You look surprised.”
Damien slowly raised his gun.
“Why didn’t you come home?”
Marco looked at Isabella.
“Because I couldn’t.”
“You let me believe you were dead.”
“I had no choice.”
Damien’s anger finally erupted.
“No choice?”
He stepped forward.
“You watched me bury an empty coffin!
You watched our mother mourn you!
You watched me carry your death for three years!”
Marco’s expression softened.
“I know.”
“You know nothing!”
Elena stepped between them.
“Damien.”
He stopped.
Marco looked at Elena.
“So this is Elena.”
Damien’s eyes narrowed.
“How do you know my wife?”
Marco gave a faint smile.
“Everyone knows about the woman who married the Mafia King.”
“Why did you bring me here?”
Marco’s expression became serious.
“I didn’t.”
She frowned.
“Then who did?”
Marco looked toward Isabella.
“She did.”
Isabella stepped forward.
“I needed Elena because she is the only person Damien would risk everything to protect.”
Damien raised his gun toward her.
“You used my wife.”
“I needed your attention.”
“You had it.”
“No.”
Isabella shook her head.
“I needed you to listen.”
Marco stepped forward.
“Damien, lower the gun.”
Damien didn’t move.
“Start talking.”
Marco took a deep breath.
“Three years ago, our father discovered that someone inside the family was selling information to our enemies.”
Damien’s expression hardened.
“Who?”
Marco looked directly at him.
“We never found out.”
“Then why did you disappear?”
“Because I discovered the truth.”
Silence filled the warehouse.
Elena looked between the brothers.
“What truth?”
Marco’s eyes darkened.
“The person behind everything wasn’t outside the family.”
He paused.
Damien’s grip tightened around his weapon.
“Who?”
Marco looked toward the darkness behind them.
Before he could answer, the warehouse doors suddenly opened.
Several armed men rushed inside.
“DOWN!”
Damien grabbed Elena and pulled her behind a concrete pillar.
Gunshots filled the warehouse.
Marco and Isabella disappeared into the chaos.
“Marco!” Damien shouted.
No answer.
Luca fired back.
“Boss, we need to move!”
Damien looked around.
His brother was gone again.
But this time, Damien wasn’t going to let him disappear.
He grabbed Elena’s hand.
“Stay with me.”
They rushed toward the nearest exit.
As they reached the door, Elena noticed something on the ground.
A small piece of paper.
She picked it up.
There were only five words written on it.
TRUST NO ONE, NOT EVEN FAMILY.
Elena looked at Damien.
“Maybe Marco was warning us.”
Damien stared at the message.
Then his phone vibrated.
One new message.
YOU’RE LOOKING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.
Damien’s eyes narrowed.
A second message arrived.
THE REAL ENEMY IS ALREADY IN YOUR HOUSE.
He slowly looked toward Elena.
For the first time, neither of them knew whom they could trust.
