Only then did he give the instructions. “Contact whoever’s in charge of this area. Have them deal with the security facilities here.”
No matter what, Meng Mian was his girlfriend now.
Seeing that his girlfriend’s place wasn’t safe, he of course had to do something about it.
Lu Chen was shocked again at their President’s abnormal behavior.
Our President’s actually this good to Meng Mian.
First one thing, then another.
Does our President still remember that he and Meng Mian are no different from a transaction?
But he still responded immediately. “Yes, sir!”
Only then did Ji Silin return to the company to keep working.
He didn’t leave the company and head home until eleven that night.
The next day, when Meng Mian was clocking in at the company’s front desk, Yao Ting happened to arrive for work too.
The moment Yao Ting saw Meng Mian, she immediately remembered yesterday’s events, and her face flushed bright red again.
Meng Mian paid Yao Ting no attention at all and went into the HR department first.
As for Yao Ting, watching Meng Mian’s back, she gritted her teeth inwardly.
In the afternoon, the moment Meng Mian got off work, she didn’t rush home.
Instead she rode her scooter and went to buy half a roast duck, a portion of vegetarian cold dish, and two steamed buns.
That was her dinner.
She hadn’t eaten at the shop. Meng Mian planned to take it home and eat it in the living room while binge-watching dramas.
When she got back to the neighborhood, Meng Mian only then discovered the changes.
Not only had all the streetlights inside the neighborhood been repaired, but security cameras had been installed everywhere.
Even the streetlights in the alleys around the neighborhood had been fixed, and cameras installed there too.
The old man at the security booth by the neighborhood entrance was still there, but two young guards had joined him.
The barrier gate and vehicle recognition system had been repaired too.
Put back into operation.
The neighborhood entrances were now extremely orderly and tightly controlled.
Inside the neighborhood, there were actually several security guards in their forties or fifties, wearing uniforms and looking extremely sharp, patrolling everywhere.
It clearly wasn’t like this in the morning. How did it become like this by evening?
As it happened, many residents downstairs were discussing it.
Many owners who had rented out their apartments had even come back to take a look, and they were talking about it too.
“The property management boss for this area changed hands. That’s why all the security facilities got repaired and replaced. Now we can bring our kids out for a walk at night too. Before, it was all dark. Who’d want to come out and wander around the neighborhood?”
“With this many cameras, even the blind spots have them. There’ll definitely be a lot less trouble.”
“Definitely. From now on, our neighborhood will have guards patrolling twenty-four hours.”
“Yeah, yeah, I saw the notice posted on the neighborhood bulletin board.”
“This is good, this is good.”
“Anyway, from now on our neighborhood will definitely be very safe. Even walking those little alleys outside at night will be safe.”
The owners were beaming. “Now that the neighborhood is this safe, our places will be even easier to rent out!”
Meng Mian glanced toward the bulletin board. There really was a new notice posted on it.
But she’d already heard the general situation from these people, so she didn’t go over to look.
Meng Mian parked her scooter.
Then carried her things upstairs.
But while eating dinner and watching her show, she wanted a cola.
So she got up to get one.
When she opened the fridge, she glanced downstairs.
Downstairs really was brightly lit now. Before, once it got fully dark, there was hardly anyone down there. Today, though, there were lots of people down there playing with their kids.
The kids chased each other around.
It was lively.
Meng Mian seemed caught up in the liveliness. Her eyes curved, and she took her cola back to the sofa, sitting on the rug.
She went on eating dinner and watching her show.
When she got to a funny part, she nearly spat out her food.
Fortunately, she was quick and clapped a hand over her mouth, but she still collapsed in laughter.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Meng Mian’s eyes hadn’t left the TV, but her hand had already grabbed her phone.
Seeing Li Xiwei’s name on the caller ID, she blinked.
The original owner had gotten hired at Li Group thanks to Li Xiwei’s help.
And the original owner had been able to see Ji Silin, stop him, and confess to him, which was also related to Li Xiwei.
Because that day happened to be Li Xiwei’s grandfather’s eightieth birthday, and the guests were all rich or noble. The original owner wanted to latch onto a rich man, so she begged Li Xiwei, lying that she wanted to see the world, and asked Li Xiwei to bring her along.
Li Xiwei really did bring her.
At that birthday banquet, the most powerful and influential person was Ji Silin, the top-tier wealthy family powerholder.
That was why the original owner didn’t latch onto anyone else and went straight to stop Ji Silin and confess.
Only then did Li Xiwei realize the original owner’s motives weren’t pure. She hadn’t wanted to see the world at all. She’d wanted to latch onto a rich man.
Li Xiwei had argued with the original owner a few times then, thinking it wasn’t good for her to do this.
But the original owner had openly and honestly confessed to Ji Silin. She hadn’t stolen or robbed or done anything bad, and Ji Silin hadn’t been coerced into accepting.
Li Xiwei’s anger faded then, and she made up with the original owner.
Meng Mian thought this person was a bit too kind-hearted.
But she still answered.
Li Xiwei’s happy voice immediately came through.
“Mianmian, tomorrow’s Saturday. You have the day off, right? Any plans? If not, let’s go shopping together. My grandpa finally doesn’t need me to keep him company. I’m free every day now.”
Li Xiwei studied medicine. Her degree took five years.
Meng Mian had already graduated, but Li Xiwei still had her fifth year.
But the fifth year was spent interning at a hospital. Li Xiwei had already found a hospital to take her. She was just waiting for September first to start interning there.
And today was only August sixth. Li Xiwei was basically on summer vacation.
“I have plans. Tomorrow morning I’m going to the south side of the city for soup dumplings, at noon I’m going to the west side for hotpot, and in the evening I’ll go to the east side for knife-cut noodles. But we can go shopping together too.”
Meng Mian told the truth.
The original owner only put on that affected voice when talking to the man she wanted to latch onto, thinking it made her likable.
She didn’t put it on when talking to anyone else.
Li Xiwei didn’t notice anything off. She just burst out laughing. “If I hadn’t asked you out, would your whole day tomorrow just be eating? And running all over the city to eat.”
Meng Mian laughed too. “I already checked online. The soup dumplings, hotpot, and knife-cut noodles I want to eat tomorrow are all supposed to be really authentic.”
“I never noticed you liked eating this much before.”
Meng Mian had no choice but to lie. “I just discovered it these past few days. I really love good food now.”
Right now she just wanted to enjoy life.
And the most important part of enjoying life was, of course, eating whatever she wanted, never shortchanging her own mouth.
“I love good food too! How about this? Tomorrow we won’t go shopping. We’ll just focus on eating. But I can’t get up in the morning, so I won’t make it for soup dumplings. Let’s meet at the hotpot place. The day after tomorrow we can shop properly, okay?”
“Sure.”
Li Xiwei was surprised. “You agreed that easily. On the weekend, don’t you and Ji Silin have to go on dates? Aren’t you two dating right now?”
