The door opened.

Darkness waited on the other side.

Not ordinary darkness.

It felt alive.

Kael stood completely still.

Liora held his hand.

The First God remained behind them.

For once, even he looked uncertain.

The child's voice came again.

“Brother?”

Kael swallowed.

“Who are you?”

Silence.

Then—

“You really forgot me.”

A small figure appeared in the darkness.

A boy.

Perhaps ten years old.

Black hair.

Gray eyes.

He looked like Kael.

But smaller.

Much smaller.

Liora stepped forward.

“Kael…”

“I know.”

The boy smiled.

“You remember her.”

Kael stared.

“Who?”

The boy pointed at Liora.

“You remembered Liora.”

Then he pointed at himself.

“But you forgot me.”

Kael's chest tightened.

“What is your name?”

The boy smiled sadly.

“You gave me one.”

Kael closed his eyes.

Nothing.

No memory.

No name.

The boy whispered:

“Aren.”

The moment Kael heard the name—

his world shattered.

Three children stood beneath a newborn sky.

Kael.

Liora.

Aren.

They were not gods.

They were not powerful.

They were simply children.

Kael looked toward the stars.

“I want to make a world.”

Liora smiled.

“What kind?”

“One where nobody is alone.”

Aren laughed.

“And one where we can live forever!”

Liora shook her head.

“Forever sounds boring.”

Kael laughed.

Aren smiled.

Then the three children joined hands.

And the first universe was born.

Kael opened his eyes.

Tears were running down his face.

“Aren…”

The boy smiled.

“You remembered.”

Kael stepped toward him.

“Where have you been?”

Aren looked behind himself.

“Here.”

“Why didn't I remember you?”

“Because you erased me.”

Kael froze.

“I did what?”

Aren's smile disappeared.

“You were afraid.”

Kael shook his head.

“Of what?”

“Of becoming powerful enough to destroy everything.”

Aren looked at Liora.

“So you made a plan.”

Liora's face became pale.

“What plan?”

Aren answered:

“You divided yourselves.”

Kael stared.

“You became Authority.”

He pointed at Liora.

“She became Choice.”

Then he pointed at himself.

“And I became the Limit.”

The First God stepped forward.

“That's impossible.”

Aren looked at him.

“You weren't there.”

The First God went silent.

Aren continued:

“I was the one who stopped Kael when he first tried to control everything.”

Kael's eyes widened.

“You stopped me?”

“Yes.”

“And what happened?”

Aren looked down.

“I failed.”

The darkness around him began moving.

“You used Absolute Authority.”

“You erased the original universe.”

“You separated your power, mind, and body.”

Kael whispered:

“The First King.”

Aren nodded.

“Your body.”

“The Remnant.”

“Your mind.”

“And me?”

Aren smiled.

“Your limit.”

Kael stared at him.

“So why am I still here?”

Aren looked directly into his eyes.

“Because you never destroyed me.”

Kael frowned.

“Then where were you?”

Aren pointed toward the black door.

“Behind the choice you refused to make.”

The First God suddenly raised his weapon.

“Enough.”

Kael turned.

“Why?”

The First God looked at Aren.

“Because if he returns…”

His voice became quiet.

“…everything changes.”

Aren laughed.

“Everything already changed.”

The First God attacked.

A golden spear crossed the darkness.

Kael stepped between them.

CLANG!

The spear struck his new sword.

Kael slid backward.

The First God stared.

“You're protecting him?”

Kael looked at Aren.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Kael answered:

“Because he's my brother.”

The First God froze.

Liora smiled faintly.

Aren's eyes filled with tears.

The First God lowered his weapon.

“You don't understand what you're protecting.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“Then explain.”

The First God looked at Aren.

“He isn't merely your limit.”

“What is he?”

“The reason the First Universe survived at all.”

Silence.

Aren slowly raised his hand.

A black symbol appeared.

Unlike Kael's Authority.

Unlike Liora's Choice.

This symbol looked like a circle with a single line through it.

LIMIT.

Aren looked at Kael.

“You remember the promise?”

Kael shook his head.

Aren smiled.

“We promised that if one of us ever became too powerful…”

He held out his hand.

“…the other two would stop him.”

Kael looked at Liora.

Then Aren.

“And you stopped me.”

“Yes.”

“But I erased you.”

“You tried.”

Aren smiled.

“But you couldn't.”

Kael's eyes widened.

“Why?”

Aren's answer was simple.

“Because you loved me.”

Kael froze.

His heart hurt.

A memory surfaced.

Three children sitting beneath a tree.

Kael crying.

Aren placing his hand on Kael's shoulder.

“Don't worry.”

Kael looked at him.

“I'll always stop you.”

Liora laughed.

“And I'll always stop both of you.”

The three children smiled.

Then—

the memory shattered.

The red eye appeared in the sky.

Everyone turned.

Aren's expression changed.

“It found us.”

Kael raised his sword.

“The End?”

Aren shook his head.

“No.”

Liora's silver eyes opened.

“Something worse.”

The red eye cracked.

Behind it—

something emerged.

A hand.

Then an arm.

Then a face.

A face that Kael recognized.

His own.

But older.

Much older.

The being stepped through the red eye.

Aren immediately knelt.

Liora froze.

The First God lowered his weapon.

Kael stared.

“Who is that?”

Aren whispered:

“The one who comes after the End.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Aren looked at him.

“When everything ends…”

He pointed toward the approaching figure.

“…something has to remain.”

The figure stopped.

Its eyes were completely white.

It looked at Kael.

Then Liora.

Then Aren.

And smiled.

“Three children.”

Its voice shook reality.

“One mistake.”

Kael raised his sword.

The being laughed.

“You still don't understand.”

It raised one finger.

The First God disappeared.

Liora vanished.

Aren vanished.

Kael was alone.

Again.

The being walked closer.

“You keep trying to save them.”

Kael's hands tightened.

“You keep choosing them.”

The world around him disappeared.

“You keep believing choice is freedom.”

Kael looked around.

Nothing remained.

The being whispered:

“But every choice has already happened.”

Kael froze.

“What?”

The being touched his forehead.

Suddenly—

Kael saw the future.

He saw Liora dying.

Aren dying.

The First God dying.

Every universe disappearing.

He saw himself standing alone.

He saw himself becoming the final god.

He saw himself destroying the End.

Then—

he saw himself sitting upon the First Throne.

Alone.

Forever.

The vision ended.

Kael fell to his knees.

The being stood before him.

“This is your future.”

Kael breathed heavily.

“No.”

The being smiled.

“You cannot change it.”

Kael slowly stood.

“You're wrong.”

“Why?”

Kael wiped the tears from his eyes.

“Because I haven't chosen it.”

The being stared.

Kael raised his sword.

“You showed me one future.”

His eyes became fierce.

“But you forgot something.”

“What?”

Kael smiled.

“I can choose another.”

The being's smile disappeared.

Liora's voice suddenly echoed from the darkness.

“Kael!”

A silver light appeared.

Aren's voice followed.

“Brother!”

A black light appeared.

Kael's sword began glowing.

Authority.

Choice.

Limit.

Three powers.

Three siblings.

One impossible balance.

The being stepped backward.

“No…”

Kael looked at Liora.

Then Aren.

They stood beside him.

Together.

Kael smiled.

“Three choices.”

Liora raised her hand.

“One future.”

Aren raised his.

“One promise.”

Kael raised his sword.

“And one family.”

The three powers collided.

The darkness shattered.

The being screamed.

And for the first time—

the creature that came after the End…

was afraid.
