In the past, Fang Mei wouldn’t have worried about Luo Yanran discovering the truth from five years ago.

After all, she was the Lady of the Family of the Luo Clan back then.

With her influence, she had a hundred ways to make Jiang Chen die a miserable death.Full novel: The Peerless Little Doctor of the Village — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

But things were different now.

Her biggest pillar of support was Luo Yanran.

If Jiang Chen told her the truth, Fang Mei would be in grave danger.

She knew Luo Yanran well.

If her daughter found out that Jiang Chen hadn’t run away with the money, but had actually been framed by the Luo Family, given her temperament, she would completely sever their mother-daughter relationship.

Therefore, no matter what, she couldn’t let Jiang Chen speak of it.

“The condition isn’t actually that difficult!” Jiang Chen said with a smile.

“What exactly is the condition?” Fang Mei pressed.

“Take me inside.” Jiang Chen pointed toward the house.

“I want to live with you.”

Fang Mei’s expression shifted.

Live with them?

Over time, Luo Yanran would likely slowly forgive him.

If her daughter ended up sticking with this penniless loser again, she wondered when these days of bitter hardship would ever end.

However, on second thought, Fang Mei suddenly felt delighted.

She suddenly remembered the village’s curse.

On their third day here, they had seen a man die for no apparent reason with their own eyes.

So what if Jiang Chen stayed here?

According to the curse, no man could survive for more than seven days.

In seven days at most, Jiang Chen would die.

As long as he was dead, no one would ever know the truth from five years ago.

With her mind made up, she nodded.

“Fine.

I’ll persuade Yanran.”

Jiang Chen smiled.

He naturally knew this woman wouldn’t agree so easily.

But to him, it didn’t matter, nor did it have any impact.

A curse?

He didn’t believe in it at all.

Besides, with his current abilities, even if there really was a curse, it couldn’t stump him.

As for agreeing not to tell Luo Yanran the truth about what happened five years ago, he had his own reasons.

On one hand, Luo Yanran had already suffered a massive blow by falling into her current predicament, and he didn’t want to add to her emotional pain with matters of the past.

He didn’t want to use a so-called truth in exchange for winning back Luo Yanran’s withered heart.

Thus, the two individuals, each harboring their own hidden agendas, struck a temporary deal.

Jiang Chen took a deep drag of his cigarette, casually tossed the butt outside, and walked inside with a smile.

He pushed the door open, entered, and sat down.

The entire sequence of actions was as smooth as flowing water.

Luo Yanran, who was sorting out medical books, glared at him as he entered.

“Who let you in?” she asked angrily.

“Was I not clear enough earlier?”

“I let him in!” Fang Mei walked in closely behind him.

She picked up a kettle from the nearby coffee table and poured a glass of water for Jiang Chen.

Watching this scene unfold, Luo Yanran was stunned.

She collected herself and looked again, afraid her eyes were deceiving her.

Her mother, who had always looked down on Jiang Chen, not only allowed him inside but actually took the initiative to pour him water?

What in the world was going on?

“Mom, haven’t you always hated him?” Luo Yanran asked.

Fang Mei nodded.

“I do hate him, but he just helped us out of a tight spot.

What’s wrong with letting him in as a way to repay him?”

Luo Yanran thought for a moment.

“Then just sit for a bit.

Leave after you’ve rested, so you don’t miss the last bus out.”

“He will be living with us for a while!” Fang Mei spoke up again.

THUD!

The medical book she had been about to place on the bookshelf slipped from Luo Yanran’s hands and fell to the floor.

She stared at Fang Mei in astonishment.

“Mom, what did you say?”

“I said he will be living with us for a while.” Fang Mei had a million reservations in her heart, but until Jiang Chen was dead, she didn’t dare show them.

She added, “He just came back and doesn’t have a place to stay here.

Let him stay for a few days temporarily, and he can leave whenever he wants!”

“What!” Luo Yanran felt like her mother had gone insane.

Letting him in could be considered repaying him for bailing them out today.

But to actually let him stay here?

Fine, maybe she let him stay because he had nowhere else to go.

But he could leave whenever he wanted?

Seeing that Luo Yanran was about to question her further, Fang Mei cut her off.

“The matter is settled.

I’ll go make you guys some food.”

With that, she walked straight toward the kitchen.

After she left, Luo Yanran walked up to Jiang Chen.

“Why is my mom helping you?”

Jiang Chen flashed a wide grin.

“Maybe she thinks we’re a perfect match and wants us to rekindle our past romance.”

“Bullshit!” Luo Yanran rebuked angrily. Get faster updates on g.com.

“What exactly did you say to my mom?

Why is she letting you stay?”

“Because reasons!” Jiang Chen spread his hands and smiled.

“There aren’t that many ‘whys’ in the world.”

“You!” Luo Yanran’s face flushed red.

Jiang Chen, however, simply stood up and stepped forward, picking up the medical book she had dropped earlier.

He flipped through it casually.

“There are a lot of flaws in this medical book, and some complicated diseases aren’t noted in it.”

“None of your business!” Luo Yanran muttered in displeasure.

“Don’t you want to know why you couldn’t cure Granny Tan’s grandson, despite trying every method during your diagnosis?” Jiang Chen asked with a smile, sitting behind the desk.

Luo Yanran shot him a glare.

“You just want to say I don’t know how to use Trembling Needles, right?

If you want to mock me, just spit it out.”

“No, it’s because your diagnosis wasn’t thorough enough!” Jiang Chen smiled.

“Impossible!” Luo Yanran could compromise on other things, but when it came to medicine, she had her pride.

She firmly believed that if it hadn’t been for that incident in the past, with her abilities, it wouldn’t have been long before she reached the absolute pinnacle of Baiyun City’s medical field.

Jiang Chen chuckled.

“I can explain it to you.

Do you want to hear it?”

“No!” Luo Yanran shook her head immediately.

Jiang Chen didn’t look embarrassed.

Instead, he simply continued, “On the surface, Granny Tan’s grandson fell off the roof and injured his leg, so a doctor’s subconscious reaction would be to directly treat the leg.

“After an examination, the bones weren’t broken, the meridians weren’t damaged, and it seemed to only be soft tissue trauma.

But as I said, that’s just on the surface.

“When a person is in a free fall, their first reaction is to tense up their nerves.

The moment they hit the ground, the split-second of shock causes all the meridians in the body to enter their most strained state.

It’s also their most vulnerable moment.”

As Jiang Chen spoke, Luo Yanran, despite her look of reluctance, listened quietly without offering the slightest rebuttal.

It was obvious she also wanted to figure out what was really going on.

Jiang Chen glanced at her and smiled.

“Therefore, the injured area might not necessarily be the root of the problem.

That’s because if the meridians suffer trauma when they are vulnerable, it leads to meridian blockages and nerve damage.

“This was exactly the case with Granny Tan’s grandson.

What truly caused his leg to lose feeling wasn’t the fall itself, but rather the blockage in the meridians controlling his leg and the damage to the nerves controlling his lower body.

“As for a cure, there’s actually a method even simpler than the one I used today.

It just requires…”

Luo Yanran was listening intently when Jiang Chen suddenly trailed off.

She jerked her head up.

“Requires what?”
