The silence inside the marble sanctuary was absolute, broken only by the rhythmic humming of the weapon racks and the soft, crackling discharge of magical energies from the stunned military platoon outside. Commander Vance remained on his knees, his cybernetic enhancements whirring erratically as they struggled against the unseen divine gravity that halved his power.

Behind him, the three floating Magi drifted unsteadily, their blue mana discs flickering out completely, forcing them to drop heavily onto the pristine white floor. They looked at their glowing gold wrist-terminals, their eyes wide with disbelief.

"Commander..." one of the high magi stammered, his fingers trembling as he tapped his console. "The advancement pathways... they're locked. It's not just a local glitch. Our entire guild network across the eastern continent is reporting the exact same error code. The Monoliths have gone completely dark. All level breakthroughs have been redirected to this specific temple grid."Full novel: The Post-Apocalyptic Fox Princess — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Vance slowly pushed himself to his feet, his jaw clenched as he stared across the polished floor. To his eyes, the figure standing by the fox-carved altar was just a tattered, sixteen-year-old scrap-boy slouching beneath an oversized mechanic’s jacket. But the system notifications hovering in his vision painted a completely different story. The boy was labeled as the High Priestess—a title that made zero sense, yet carried the absolute authority of an empire.

"You've hijacked the progression of the human race," Vance said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, gravelly growl. He tried to draw his plasma-infused broadsword, but the moment his fingers gripped the hilt, a sharp, warning pulse of white-hot fox fire flared along the floorboards, singing the tips of his armored boots.

Ren didn't move an inch. Beneath the flawless glamour of her Fox-Tail Illusion, her true form—complete with shimmering silver hair, twitching white fox ears, and a massive, fluffy tail tipped with crimson flame—remained relaxed. She resting a single, delicate hand on the hilt of Asuka.

"I didn't hijack anything, Commander," Ren replied, her voice projected through the illusion as a calm, youthful male tone. "The system recognized that the old world's terminals were corrupted. The Monoliths were failing to protect you from the toxic storms outside. The system simply chose a new anchor. If your military wants to advance past Level 60, you play by the rules of the Blood Moon."

Vance’s cybernetic eye whirred, adjusting its focus. He was a seasoned warlord, a tactical genius who had built Sector 7 through blood and iron. He knew when a battle was unwinnable. Right now, within a fifty-foot radius of this temple, his army was castrated. If he ordered an attack, his soldiers would be slaughtered by the environment alone, stripped of their classes and their stats.

Worse, if his elite units couldn't undergo their class advancements, the settlement would fall within months. The roaming scrap-beasts outside the barrier grew stronger with every cycle. Without higher-tier Sovereign Tyrants, Paladins, and Arch-Mages, the outer walls would crumble.

"What are your terms?" Vance demanded, his shoulders dropping slightly as he forced himself to release his sword hilt. The elite guards behind him gasped, realizing their commander was actively surrendering.

Ren tilted her hidden head, her soft fox ears rotating backward beneath the veil. "The terms are simple. The Shrine of Luna is an absolute sovereign zone. No military forces may enter without my explicit permission. The lower trenches are no longer your labor camps. This sector belongs to the sanctuary."

"And the advancements?" Vance asked sharply. "My front-line defenders are sitting at the level cap. They need their breakthroughs to hold off the wild hordes."

Ren gestured toward the grand weapon racks lining the marble walls. "Anyone who wishes to advance must bring an offering. High-density scrap, rare core crystals, or pure spiritual essence. If the offering matches the weight of their class, I will grant the Blessing of the Blood Moon. They will receive their advanced class attributes, and they will leave."

Vance stared at the scrap-boy for a long time, his analytical mind calculating the political nightmare this would create within the high government. A common scrap-rat was now the gatekeeper of human evolution. It was an absurd, terrifying reality, but he had no choice.

"Fine," Vance spat, turning on his heel. His heavy cape swirled around his armor as he began to march down the marble steps. "We will return with the required offerings tomorrow at dawn. But understand this, boy... the other sectors won't take this sitting down. When the warlords of the northern citadels find out a single teenager is holding their power hostage, they will march an army to your doorstep that your little marble house cannot stop."

"Let them come," Ren whispered softly, her true silver voice carrying an icy, divine confidence that shivered through the marble pillars. "The goddess is always looking for more sacrifices."

As the military platoon retreated back into the charcoal smog of the city, sealing off the lower trenches with heavy barricades, Ren closed the grand crimson doors of the shrine with a simple wave of her hand. The heavy locks clicked into place with a definitive thud.

She deactivated her illusion. The pinkish-gold mist dissolved, revealing her striking, otherworldly beauty once more. Her long white hair caught the crimson light filtering through the glass dome, and her fluffy white tail swayed with a sense of immense satisfaction. She brought up her system screen, watching the golden text scroll as her synchronization rate ticked upward.

Ren smiled, a delicate, sharp-toothed grin that belonged to a true predator. The post-apocalypse was a world of monsters, but as she gripped her soulbound blade, she knew that she was quickly becoming the most dangerous monster of them all.
