The freezing rain hammered against the rusted corrugated iron roofs of the northern harbor docks, throwing a freezing mist over the shipping yard.

It was ten minutes to midnight.

Most of the city was asleep, insulated inside heated high-rise apartments, completely unaware of the grueling labor keeping the supply lines moving.Full novel: The Primal Dragon Sovereign: Invincible From Level 1 — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Down on the cracked concrete of Dock 4, Grant Cross hauled another eighty-kilogram wooden crate onto his aching shoulder.

The rough timber bit into his collarbone through his threadbare canvas jacket.

Five years ago, a weight like this would have been trivial.

Five years ago, he was the crown prince of the Cross Martial Line—an awakened prodigy whose internal energy meridians flowed like a raging river.

He could have lifted an entire shipping container with a single hand.

Now, every step felt like grinding broken glass inside his joints.

When his cousin Bradley had him framed and ambushed, they didn’t just steal his inheritance.

They used a cursed obsidian spike to shatter his energy core, turning his brilliant meridians into stagnant, broken pathways.

For five long years, he had been a phantom.

A nameless dock hand with calloused hands and a curved spine, earning pennies under the table just to buy bread and stale water.

“Hey!

Move faster, trash!” the harbor overseer barked from beneath the dry canopy of the guard station, sipping hot coffee.

“The cargo from the southern province needs to be logged before the morning shift arrives.

If you miss the deadline, don’t bother showing up tomorrow!”

Grant didn’t reply.

He didn’t even look up.

He simply adjusted his grip on the splintered wood, his boots squelching through the oil-slicked puddles of mud and diesel fuel.

He had learned that in the gutter, pride was a luxury that only got you beaten faster.

He kept his head down, letting his long, wet black hair obscure his eyes.

But beneath his damp shirt, right over his heart, the phantom scar of the meridian spike began to throb.

It wasn’t the dull ache of an old wound.

It was a sharp, electric heat, vibrating in sync with the heavy ticking of the harbor clock.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Five minutes to midnight.

Grant set the final crate down on the metal pallet, his breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps.

His knuckles were raw, split open by the cold and the friction of the coarse wood.

As he wiped the freezing rain from his forehead, a strange sensation washed over him.

The ambient noise of the harbor—the groaning of the massive cranes, the distant horn of a cargo ship, the howling wind—suddenly fell completely silent.

The raindrops falling from the sky seemed to slow down, hanging in the air like suspended glass beads.

Inside his chest, the shattered fragments of his energy core began to spin.

For five years, they had been dead, cold ash.

Now, they were burning.

A deep, ancient roar—the echo of a primeval dragon waking from an eon-long slumber—reverberated directly inside his soul.

Ding!

As the harbor clock struck midnight, marking his twenty-fifth birthday, a blinding flash of azure light erupted inside his field of vision.

It wasn’t a physical light, but a sleek, holographic system interface burning itself directly onto his retinas.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: PRIMORDIAL DRAGON CORE AWAKENED]

• Host: Grant Cross

• Current Realm: Tier 1: Iron Body (Stage 1)

• Passive Ability: Dragon Scale Armor (Immune to all physical and elemental attacks below Tier 2)

Grant froze.

The absolute stillness in his chest vanished, replaced by an overwhelming torrent of pure, unadulterated power.

His broken meridians didn’t just heal; they expanded, transforming from narrow streams into vast, golden oceans of energy.

The freezing rain hitting his bare neck didn’t chill him anymore.

Instead, the water hissed, crackling as it instantly turned into white steam the moment it touched his skin.

His muscles tightened, density multiplying by a factor of a hundred.

The chronic ache in his spine evaporated.

Standing there in the mud, Grant slowly exhaled, a visible wave of pure thermal energy rippling outward from his boots, drying the wet concrete around him for three meters.

Before he could even process the interface, the blinding headlights of a sleek, black luxury sedan cut through the harbor mist.

The car bounced over the gravel yard, its tires splashing muddy water all over the crates Grant had just spent hours organizing.

The vehicle came to a halt right in front of the shipping office.

The doors opened, and two massive men in tailored black suits stepped out, holding a large umbrella.

Following them was a young man wearing a custom Italian suit, a gold watch gleaming on his wrist.

It was Bradley Cross.

The new CEO of Cross Logistics.

The man who had stolen Grant’s life.

Bradley looked around the damp, dirty shipping yard with absolute disgust, pulling his silk coat tighter around his shoulders.

He didn’t recognize the lone dock worker standing in the shadows.

To him, the staff here were just insects operating the machinery of his empire.

“Where is the inventory log?” Bradley demanded, his voice sharp and arrogant.

“The board needs the northern distribution numbers by morning.

I don’t have time to waste in this dump.”

The harbor overseer practically fell out of his chair, scrambling out into the rain while bowing repeatedly.

“Mr.

Cross!

Sir!

I didn’t expect you personally!

The logs are right here, but…

but we are a bit behind.

The dock hands are moving slowly tonight.”

Bradley sneered, his eyes finally landing on Grant’s static figure.

“Then fire them.

If they can’t handle basic labor, throw them back into the slums where they belong.”

He walked toward the office, his expensive leather shoes clicking against the concrete.

As he passed Grant, he stopped.

Something about the way the dock hand stood—perfectly straight, unmoving, with steam rising from his clothes—made Bradley pause.

A cruel, mocking smile slowly spread across Bradley’s face as he recognized the ragged canvas jacket.

“Well, well.

Look what the gutter dragged up,” Bradley laughed, stepping closer under the protection of his guards’ umbrella.

“Dear cousin Grant.

I heard rumors you were hiding out at the ports, but I didn’t believe you’d actually sink this low.

From the top prodigy of the city to a literal pack mule.

How does the mud taste?”

The two bodyguards chuckled, stepping forward to flank Bradley.

Grant’s eyes drifted up to the guards.

The moment he looked at them, the azure system interface flashed again, displaying glowing text boxes above their heads.

[TARGET DETECTED]

• Name: Bodyguard 1

• Cultivation Realm: Tier 1: Iron Body (Stage 3)

• Combat Strength: 350

[TARGET DETECTED]

• Name: Bodyguard 2

• Cultivation Realm: Tier 1: Iron Body (Stage 3)

• Combat Strength: 380

To the ordinary world, these two guards were elite, unstoppable martial artists capable of breaking concrete with their bare fists.

To Grant’s new 1,200 Combat Strength, they were nothing but paper tigers.

Bradley reached into his inner pocket, pulled out a sleek leather wallet, and plucked a crisp hundred-dollar bill from it.

He casually tossed the money into the wet, muddy gravel right at Grant’s feet.

“Get my personal bags out of the trunk and take them up to the administrative office, dock boy,” Bradley barked, his voice dripping with condescension.

“Consider it a tip from your CEO.

It’s probably more than you make in a whole week.”

The overseer watched in silence, a smirk on his face.

The guards crossed their arms, waiting for Grant to bend his knee and pick up the cash.

Grant didn’t blink.

He didn’t look down at the money.

He simply looked Bradley dead in the eyes.

His pupils, once a dull black, now bore a faint, terrifying draconic gold ring around the irises.

He took one single step forward.

BOOM!

The moment his boot touched the ground, a shockwave tore through Dock 4.

The reinforced concrete beneath them shattered, webbed cracks exploding outward for ten meters.

An invisible, mountain-like weight dropped from the sky, turning the very air pressure thick and suffocating.

The two elite bodyguards didn’t even have time to draw their weapons.

They gasped, their faces turning pale as a terrifying, god-like gravity slammed into their shoulders.

Their knees buckled with a sickening crack against the stone, forcing them down face-first into the muddy gravel.

[SYSTEM WARNING: Hostile Tier 1 combatants detected.

Initializing automated suppression…]

• Bodyguard 1 Combat Strength: 350 → Suppressed to 245

• Bodyguard 2 Combat Strength: 380 → Suppressed to 266

• Status: Completely Pinned.

The guards groaned, their faces pressed into the mud, unable to lift their heads even an inch against Grant’s Sovereign Pressure.

“What…

what is this?!

What did you do?!” Bradley screamed.

The umbrella flew out of the guards’ hands, caught by the wind.

Deprived of his protection, the heavy pressure hit Bradley next.

He stumbled backward, his luxury leather shoes slipping in the mud, before collapsing hard against the wet hood of his black sedan.

He clawed at his own throat, gasping for air as if the oxygen had been completely sucked out of the yard.

Grant walked forward.

His footsteps were light, making no sound, yet every stride felt like the approach of an apex predator.

He walked right past the pinned, groaning bodyguards and stopped inches away from his trembling cousin.

He looked down at Bradley, his golden pupils glowing faintly in the harbor darkness.

“Five years ago, you broke my bones, shattered my core, and called me trash,” Grant said.

His voice was entirely calm, yet it vibrated with the low, terrifying resonance of distant thunder.

He casually extended his boot and stepped directly on the hundred-dollar bill, grinding it deep into the fractured earth until it was ruined.

“Keep your money, Bradley.

Tomorrow, I’m pulling down your entire empire brick by brick.

Let’s see if your little guards can stand in my way when I come for the throne.”

Grant turned his back on the hyperventilating CEO, walking out into the storm as the system interface flashed a final, triumphant alert before his eyes.
