The drive back to the city was quieter than the journey to the site.

The afternoon sun painted long streaks of amber across the windshield as the SUV merged into the evening traffic.

Vishesh drove with his usual calm precision, one hand resting lightly on the steering wheel while the other shifted gears effortlessly whenever traffic demanded it.Full novel: The Rain that changed everything — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Aditya, however, seemed completely unaffected by the long day.

“I still can’t believe Harsh agreed to move the structural axis without arguing for twenty minutes,” he laughed.

“That’s a record.”

Vishesh kept his eyes on the road.

“He argued.”

“No,” Aditya corrected with a grin.

“He merely questioned reality for five minutes.

That’s progress.”

The corner of Vishesh’s mouth almost lifted.

In the rear seat, Nayshita sat with the revised site drawings spread neatly across her lap.

Her pencil moved across the margins.

A small note.

A tiny sketch.

Another observation.

She wasn’t looking outside.

She was rebuilding the hotel in her mind.

Aditya turned around in his seat.

“You know, the site visit is officially over.”

She looked up.

“Is it?”

“It is.”

“Then why are you still talking about it?”

He laughed.

“Fair enough.”

She smiled faintly before returning to her notes.

For the next few minutes, the only sounds inside the car were the soft hum of the engine and the occasional rustle of paper.

Without saying anything, Vishesh glanced at the rear-view mirror.

Nayshita had tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear without taking her eyes off the drawings.

Every few moments she would stop writing, look into empty space as though visualizing a room that did not yet exist, and then quietly continue making corrections.

She wasn’t decorating.

She was solving.

That was what had impressed him from the very beginning.

Most designers spoke about beauty.

She spoke about experience.

Most people imagined a building.

She imagined the people who would move through it.

His attention returned to the road before anyone noticed the brief glance.

Behind him, Nayshita drew a single line through one of her earlier notes and rewrote it.

Increase landing width…

Satisfied, she closed the folder.

“I think I’ve figured it out.”

Aditya raised an eyebrow.

“Already?”

“It’s only a concept.”

“That’s how every complicated project begins,” Vishesh said quietly.

“A concept.”

The three of them fell silent again.

Yet this silence was no longer unfamiliar.

It had become comfortable.

Comfortable enough that no one felt the need to fill every passing minute with conversation.

Nearly forty minutes later, the familiar façade of Mehra Group Headquarters came into view.

The vehicles entered the basement parking area one after another.

The workday, however, was far from over.

The conference room was as active as it had been in the morning.

Drawings covered the central table once again.

Fresh printouts lay beside laptops already displaying revised layouts from the day’s site inspection.

Before anyone could settle into their seats, the Project Coordination Office circulated an internal memo.

Aditya picked up the nearest copy.

“Oh, that’s quick.”

“What is it?” Nayshita asked.

He skimmed the page before handing it to Vishesh.

“Tomorrow’s schedule.”

Vishesh read it once before placing it on the table for everyone.

“The Management Review Committee has asked for a complete reassessment before foundation work begins.”

The room became attentive.

He continued.

“Every department will reconfirm today’s decisions.”

His finger moved down the page.

“Structural.”

“Services.”

“Architecture.”

“Interior coordination.”

“Site execution.”

“No changes will be implemented until all departments sign off together.”

Harsh nodded.

“Fair.”

Priya added, “It’s better to catch conflicts now than after casting.”

Vishesh looked toward Nayshita.

“You’ll prepare the revised interior presentation.”

She met his gaze.

“Including today’s circulation and staircase revisions?” Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.

“Everything.”

“The committee should understand not only what changed, but why.”

She nodded.

“I’ll have it ready.”

Aditya leaned back in his chair dramatically.

“So while the rest of us go home…”

“…you’ll spend the evening redesigning a hotel.”

Nayshita smiled.

“I’ll spend the evening making sure tomorrow’s discussion is easier.”

“There,” Aditya pointed toward Vishesh.

“Do you hear that?

That’s exactly how he talks.”

For the first time that evening, Vishesh actually smiled.

Barely.

But enough for Aditya to notice.

“I knew it,” Aditya declared triumphantly.

“The project is multiplying serious people.”

A few members of the team laughed.

The atmosphere lightened instantly.

Vishesh closed the file.

“That’s all for today.”

“We begin at nine tomorrow.”

“No delays.”

One by one, the team gathered their belongings.

Laptops disappeared into bags.

Drawings were rolled carefully into protective tubes.

Chairs slid back across the polished floor.

Within minutes, the conference room had almost emptied.

Nayshita remained where she was for a moment, checking a message on her phone.

Rahul: Running late.

Traffic is terrible.

I’ll need at least an hour.

She looked around.

She had not yet been assigned a workspace of her own, and the reception lounge seemed the only place to wait.

Gathering her folder, she quietly made her way downstairs.

The reception area had grown noticeably quieter as employees headed home.

She settled into one of the chairs, opened her notebook once more, and began refining tomorrow’s presentation.

Completely absorbed in her work, she didn’t notice the elevator doors opening a few minutes later.

Vishesh and Aditya stepped into the lobby on their way out.

Aditya noticed her first.

He slowed.

“…What’s she still doing here?”

Vishesh followed his gaze.

His eyes rested on Nayshita for a brief moment before the two of them walked toward the reception area.
