The days that followed settled into a steady rhythm.

With the revised plans approved, the Grand Meridian Hotel Project moved from planning towards execution.

Every morning, the site buzzed with fresh activity.Full novel: The Rain that changed everything — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Engineers discussed structural timelines.

Architects finalized execution drawings.

Contractors coordinated deliveries while workers transformed lines on paper into concrete reality.

As promised, a well-equipped cabin had been prepared for Nayshita inside the site office.

It overlooked the entire construction area.

Large glass windows allowed her to monitor every section of the project without leaving her desk, while a spacious meeting table quickly became the centre of discussions between architects, engineers and vendors.

Within a week, everyone on site had begun recognizing her not merely as the representative of Singhania Designs, but as someone who genuinely cared about every detail.

She knew the names of the supervisors.

She greeted the workers every morning.

She never hesitated to roll up the drawings herself or walk through unfinished sections to verify measurements.

More than once, Vishesh found himself quietly observing the ease with which people responded to her.

Respect, he realized…

could never be demanded.

It had to be earned.

And somehow…

she had managed to earn it without ever asking for it.

It was nearly six in the evening.

The day’s final inspection had just concluded.

One by one, the engineers packed their laptops.

Contractors exchanged instructions for the following morning before leaving the site.

Soon, the once-busy construction area began growing quiet.

Only a handful of people remained.

Vishesh reviewed the final progress report with the project manager before stepping outside the site office.

The evening sky had changed.

Dark grey clouds stretched across the horizon.

A cool breeze swept through the unfinished corridors of the hotel.

Someone looked up.

“I think it’s going to rain.”

Within moments…

The first drop fell.

Then another.

Soon, the drizzle turned into a steady shower.

Workers hurried towards temporary sheds, protecting tools and equipment.

The site slowly emptied.

Vishesh instinctively moved beneath the extended concrete porch near the entrance.

As he brushed a few drops from his sleeve, his eyes wandered across the open site.

He found her standing a short distance away.

Nayshita.

She hadn’t run for shelter.

Her gaze remained fixed on the falling rain.

There was no hurry.

No concern.

Only…

peace.

For a brief moment, Vishesh simply watched her.

Then, without thinking, he walked over.

She noticed him only when he stopped beside her.

Neither of them spoke immediately.

Together, they watched the rain wash over the unfinished structure.

The sound of falling water echoed softly through the empty concrete halls.

Finally…

Vishesh broke the silence.

“You like the rain?”

She smiled.

Not the polite smile she offered in meetings.

Not the cheerful smile she shared with Aditya.

This one was quieter.

More personal.

“I do.”

He waited.

She continued, her eyes never leaving the rain.

“When I was little, I used to wait for the first rain of the season.”

A gentle breeze carried the fragrance of wet earth through the air.

“My father would always say…”

She paused, remembering.

“‘Never complain about the rain.'”

Vishesh looked at her.

“He believed rain never arrives to destroy.”

“It arrives to cleanse.”

She smiled faintly.

“It washes away dust.”

“It cools the earth after unbearable heat.”

“It gives trees another chance to bloom.”

Her voice softened.

“I’ve always felt…”

“…people deserve that chance too.”

Vishesh remained silent.

She finally turned towards him.

“I know it sounds strange.”

“No.”

“It doesn’t.”

For a moment…

Neither of them said another word.

The rain continued falling around them.

Vishesh watched the droplets disappear into the unfinished foundation of the hotel.

He had spent years believing that some things, once broken, could never truly be repaired.

Yet listening to her…

For the first time…

The thought didn’t seem as certain as it once had.

A loud clap of thunder echoed across the valley.

Nayshita laughed softly.

“I think that’s nature’s way of asking us to leave.”

Even Vishesh smiled.

“A practical suggestion.”

She nodded playfully.

“I try to stay practical.”

Together, they walked towards the parking area.

Their cars waited in opposite directions.

Before getting into hers, Nayshita looked back.

“Good night, Sir.”

“Good night, Ms.

Nayshita.”

She smiled one last time before the car slowly disappeared beyond the site gates.

Vishesh stood watching the rain for another few moments.

Then he looked once at the half-built hotel rising beneath the dark evening sky.

It was incomplete.

Rough around the edges.

Far from beautiful.

Yet every day…

It moved a little closer to becoming what it was meant to be.

Without realizing it…

He found himself wondering if hearts were built the same way.

Some foundations were not laid in moments of celebration.

Perhaps…

They were laid quietly…

Between misunderstandings that found forgiveness…

Conversations that eased hidden fears…

And a rain that gently reminded two strangers…

That every new beginning deserves a chance.

To be continued…
