Thinking of this, Zhao Tianlei looked at Lin Siya again. It was only today that he truly noticed how beautiful she was. Before, he had never calmly examined her. Now, her bearing was extraordinary, even surpassing that of female cultural soldiers. Even dressed in patched clothing, her grace remained unchanged.

Who exactly was targeting her?

From beginning to end, the Zhao family had been caught in someone else’s scheme. But if Xiao Ya had not been saved by her father in law back then, what would have happened?Full novel: The Rebirth of a Tycoon in the 1970s — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Had that person ever considered this possibility?

Give him two days, and he would be able to find the one hiding behind the scenes.

“Zhao Tianlei, if you want a divorce, handle it tomorrow. If not, then stand up straight like a man,” Lin Jianshe said coldly. He had completely lost heart over the Zhao family’s aggressive attitude and demanded an answer.

Even if there was no divorce, he would never let his sister return to such an in law family.

Zhao Meiyun feared that her brother truly cared for Lin Siya and would refuse to divorce, so she deliberately made things sound worse. “Brother, you are our parents’ only son. If you marry a woman who cannot bear children, you are cutting off the Zhao family line.”

Lin Siya immediately noticed Father Zhao.

He likely thought the same. Believing she could not bear children, he let his daughter speak while he stayed silent, pretending to be honest.

The quietest dogs had the cruelest hearts.

Just like her former fiancé, who always pushed her cousin to the front.

“Isn’t there still you? Weren’t you planning to bring in a husband?” Zhao Tianlei replied coldly.

His parents truly had cold hearts.

If Mother and Xiao Yun had not spread rumors, Xiao Ya would never have drunk poison in despair, nor would she now face difficulties bearing children.

Yet with a few words, they wiped their hands clean of everything they had done.

“Brother, what are you saying?” Zhao Meiyun shrank back under his gaze, losing her earlier arrogance.

“I will not divorce. If you insist, then I will take Xiao Ya with me to follow the army. I will send money back every year. As for supporting you in old age, leave that to Xiao Yun,” Zhao Tianlei said indifferently.

Divorce aside, from the moment he married, he had decided that as long as life could go on, he would not divorce. Now Xiao Yun had been stirred up by others and dared to accuse Xiao Ya like this. It showed exactly what Xiao Ya had endured these past months.

He had once thought what Lin Jianshe said could not be true. Now he saw that it was. They had never truly treated Xiao Ya as part of the Zhao family.

Father Zhao was furious. Seeing his son’s stance, it was clear he was set on Lin Siya, regardless of whether she could bear children.

Mother Zhao was equally enraged.

She pointed at Zhao Tianlei, too angry to speak.

Zhao Meiyun grew more and more uneasy.

“If you came today to apologize, then apologize. If you came for anything else, we will not receive you,” Lin Jianshe said.

“My daughter married into your family only a few months ago, yet you drove her to prove her innocence with death. I have not even settled accounts with you, and now you dare come knocking,” he continued.

Not wanting their home to become a spectacle, Lin Jianshe closed the gate. Curious villagers gathered outside, ears pricked.

They were in the wrong.

People living well did not seek death.

Father Zhao pulled a long face and turned to his wife and daughter. “Apologize now. If Xiao Ya does not forgive you, you will stay here until she does.”

Truly, old ginger was still the spiciest.

With a few words, he forced them to cling to the Lin family and beg for forgiveness.

Lin Siya suddenly thought of something. The next moment, she clutched her throat, swayed, and collapsed, fainting.

“Xiao Ya.”

“Xiao Ya.”

“Xiao Ya.”

“Xiao Ya.”

Four different voices rang out.

The three from the Zhao family were startled. None had expected Lin Siya to faint just like that.

“She is pretending. She must be pretending,” Zhao Meiyun blurted out. She had seemed fine a moment ago. This had to be an act.

Father Zhao wanted to rub his temples.

How could he have such a foolish daughter?

Whether it was real or fake, how could she say it so bluntly?

Mother Zhao froze. Lin Siya looked so frail. If she truly could not bear children, would that not cut off the Zhao family line?

After giving birth to Tianlei, she had not conceived again for many years. When she finally did, it was a daughter. She had been disappointed, yet she still doted on the girl, especially after her son joined the army. She never let her work in the fields and used cloth coupons, even those Tianlei mailed home, to make new clothes for her.

If Lin Siya truly could not bear children, then all hope would rest on Xiao Yun.

But even with a live in son in law, that child would belong to another family, not the Zhao bloodline.

As a traditional rural woman, Wang Cuihua valued sons above daughters. Between her son and daughter, the son always came first. Even if he was away in the army and rarely returned, he sent money home every month. She knew he was distant because of their difficult past, and she had felt guilty for that.

Give Lin Siya some time. If she truly could not conceive, then let her son take another woman to bear children. Surely no one would object.

Neither family knew that Mother Zhao had thought so far ahead.

All attention was on Lin Siya.

“How is she?” someone asked.

“She is fine. It is just emotional distress,” Father Lin said after checking her pulse.

“When will Xiao Ya wake up?” Mother Zhao asked, startling both families.

“She will wake after some rest,” Father Lin replied calmly, unsure what Mother Zhao was plotting.

Zhao Tianlei lifted Lin Siya in his arms. “I will carry her inside to rest.”

His heart had grown cold toward his parents.

Zhao Meiyun was furious. Her mother had actually shown concern for Lin Siya.

What was so good about Lin Siya anyway? Weak bodied and improper.
