“Wanqing, what exactly did I do wrong?”
Xiao Fan stood rooted to the spot, shouting at Gu Wanqing in grief, as if he had suffered the greatest injustice in the world.
“Is it because of Lin Ao? Did he say something to you? Didn’t I tell you before? Lin Ao is not a good person. He doesn’t love you at all. In his eyes, there’s only money, status, and benefit. You don’t even exist to him. He married you just to use the Gu Family!”
Xiao Fan fired off accusation after accusation about Lin Ao, speaking as though he had witnessed everything himself. His expression gradually twisted, his face filled with anger.
“Did he threaten you? Damn that Lin Ao! What a despicable man! Wanqing, don’t worry. No matter what happens, I will stand by your side and protect you. I have another identity as well. I can…”
Before he could finish, Gu Wanqing coldly interrupted him, “Enough! I don’t care what identity you have. I have absolutely no interest. This has nothing to do with Brother Lin Ao. Everything is my own decision. He is not as filthy as you.”
Her voice grew even colder, “Since we’ve come to this, I hope you won’t pester me again in the future. I don’t want to see you appear in front of me ever again.”
She turned slightly and said, “Uncle Gu, let’s go.”
After speaking, Gu Wanqing got back into the car. When the car passed by Xiao Fan, she did not even spare him a glance.
Regret flickered in her heart. She had acted too hastily. Xiao Fan’s attention had still shifted onto Lin Ao.
“Uncle Gu, during this period, please protect Brother Lin Ao well. Don’t worry about me.”
She was afraid something might happen to Lin Ao, so she immediately asked Uncle Gu, who was at the Grandmaster Realm, to protect him.
Uncle Gu chuckled softly, “Miss, Uncle Gu is very happy that you dismissed that Xiao Fan today. I’ve long felt he wasn’t a good person. Young Master Lin is far better than him. Besides, what the Gu Family has, do you really think the Lin Family doesn’t?”
Uncle Gu felt deeply gratified. If the eldest young lady hadn’t trusted Xiao Fan so much before, he would have already gone up and given him two solid punches.
That man gave off a feeling of hypocrisy and arrogance. With his many years of judging people, he was certain he wasn’t wrong.
Gu Wanqing let out a soft breath and said, “I was foolish. Let’s head back, Uncle Gu.”
Uncle Gu was right. Whatever the Gu Family possessed, how could the Lin Family, the number one family in Jianghai, lack it? The Lin Family would only have more, not less.
…
After Gu Wanqing left, Xiao Fan stood there blankly. Veins bulged across his body, and his face flushed red.
“Gu Wanqing! Lin Ao! When have I, Xiao Fan, ever suffered such humiliation? In the future, I will repay this a thousandfold, ten thousandfold!”
His expression was ferocious as he ground his teeth.
“A mere woman dares to humiliate our Dragon Gate Leader like this? Do you need me to get rid of her for you?”
At that moment, a man stepped out from behind a pillar in the parking lot. He had a buzz cut, a monkey-like face, and sinister eyes.
Xiao Fan’s tone turned cold, “Hou Zi, how many times have I told you? You must not act recklessly within the nation. That woman can stay alive for now. Besides, there’s a Grandmaster following her. I’m not even his match, let alone you.”
He narrowed his eyes and continued, “I’ll handle this matter myself. I want to personally prove that I, Xiao Fan, am not someone to be trifled with. Gu Wanqing will be left alone for now, but Lin Ao…”
A shadow flashed across Xiao Fan’s eyes.
Lin Ao, just wait for your death.
…
At this moment, Lin Ao had no idea that Gu Wanqing had already taken the first step to distance him from the protagonist’s circle and had successfully drawn Xiao Fan’s attention onto him.
If he knew, he would probably jump up and curse, thinking she was all curves and no brains.
He was currently looking at his parents with a resentful expression.
It was not until lunchtime that he was finally woken up and untied.
Li Wanyu looked at him and said, “Son, how about we just cancel the engagement?”
Lin Ao’s eyes instantly lit up. There was a turning point.
Had his mother seen how wild Gu Wanqing had been today and thought she was not suitable to marry into the Lin Family, so she decided to help him call off the engagement?
Lin Ao nodded repeatedly with firm enthusiasm.
Seeing this, Li Wanyu’s heart blossomed with joy. So her son was just as eager?
“You think so too?”
“Yes, yes, yes, yes!”
“Good, then we won’t get engaged.”
“Yes, yes, yes, yes!”
“We’ll skip straight to the wedding! Next year I’ll be holding my chubby grandson in my arms! Hahaha!”
Li Wanyu seemed to already see a plump grandson babbling in her embrace, her face glowing with happiness.
Lin Ao froze on the spot.
“Wait… I meant cancel the engagement?”
He muttered under his breath.
Li Wanyu paused. Lin Dong slowly lifted his eyes, which seemed to flash red.
“What did you just say?”
Li Wanyu looked at Lin Ao with a gentle smile.
Lin Dong had already gone upstairs to fetch a belt.
“Huh? What did I just say?”
Lin Ao did not realize he had spoken his thoughts out loud.
This was the first time Li Wanyu had been so furious.
She grabbed Lin Ao by the ear and lifted him up entirely. “You little brat, one day without a beating and you’re climbing onto the roof! Did you just say you want to cancel the engagement? Old Lin!”
“Coming!”
Li Wanyu shouted angrily. Lin Dong quickly came down from the second floor with practiced movements and tied Lin Ao up again with the belt.
Then he hung Lin Ao from the ceiling. Where did that hook even come from?
Lin Ao dangled like a cocoon hanging from a tree.
“Mom! Dad! What are you doing?”
Lin Ao was truly frightened now. What madness had possessed them? He had never experienced such treatment since childhood.
How did you even hang me up like this?
Li Wanyu snapped, “What are we doing? Tell me, did you just say the words ‘cancel the engagement’?”
Lin Dong stood beside her, snapping the belt loudly in the air.
“You brat, let me tell you. If you even have the slightest thought of canceling the engagement, I’ll beat you to death! Wanqing is such a good girl, and after what happened between you two today, you still dare talk about canceling it? Over my dead body!”
Li Wanyu kept scolding him, while Lin Dong swung the belt like a cowboy cheering her on.
Lin Ao felt utterly shattered inside. What happened between us today? Did she wash my clothes with her tears and snot? Speaking of which, I haven’t even changed yet. Or are they talking about how she forcibly kissed me and even used her tongue? That part was admittedly a bit exciting.
“Mom! I didn’t! You misheard! I meant postpone the wedding. You both misheard me! I said postpone!”
Lin Ao quickly begged for mercy. He dared not provoke them further. He would make a new plan later. Otherwise, that belt was about to land on his face.
A gust of wind passed.
When Lin Ao opened his eyes, he found himself sitting back at the dining table.
It was as if nothing had happened.
Li Wanyu rested her chin in her hand, humming happily as she fantasized about her chubby grandson.
Lin Dong sat with one leg crossed over the other, reading the newspaper.
Lin Ao sat there blankly, feeling messy in the cold breeze.
“Damn.”
…
Gu Wanqing lay on her bed resting, a sly smile curling at the corner of her lips.
“Lin Ao, just wait. I’ll go find you tomorrow.”
She seemed to have thought of something that excited her.
She let out a strange little laugh.
A trace of clear drool slipped from the corner of her mouth.
