On the surface, Pure Yang Palace appeared peaceful, but beneath lay deep undercurrents. However, the scheming and power struggles among disciples had little to do with the white serpent.

I’m just a gate-guarding snake. The rivers and lakes of human strife are theirs to navigate. As long as I eat well and sleep well, that’s enough.

In reality, the serpent’s wishful thinking was far from practical.Full novel: The Reborn White Snake Seeking the Heavens — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

How could a snake living among humans remain detached from their conflicts? Many things were beyond its control—even if it wanted no part, humans would inevitably drag it into their whirlpools…

Mealtime.

The serpent slithered leisurely toward the kitchen, where the chefs had likely already prepared its meal—mediocre in quality but unlimited in quantity, which suited it just fine.

Arriving at the kitchen, it headed straight to the back to enjoy its usual basin of meat.

In the front hall, the lively chatter among disciples suddenly died down. At the entrance stood Lian Tianxing, his face dark as storm clouds. Everyone held their breath, afraid to provoke the already foul-tempered Second Senior Brother.

His mood was terrible because he had lost to Chu Zhe again in yesterday’s sect competition.

The rivalry between the First and Second Senior Brothers was common knowledge in Pure Yang Palace. While Chu Zhe was widely loved for his gentle demeanor, Lian Tianxing was feared for his cold ruthlessness.

“What are you all staring at? Eat!”

Lian Tianxing’s roar sent the disciples scrambling to lower their heads and shovel food into their mouths. The dining hall fell silent except for the clatter of chopsticks.

He wasn’t here to eat but to vent his frustrations. Finding no faults among the obedient disciples, he stormed into the kitchen, intent on picking a fight there.

The plump head chef paled at the sight of him. The kitchen staff were all low-level cultivators with no future prospects—mere Qi Refining beginners. In Pure Yang Palace, strength dictated status, and Lian Tianxing, as a Disciplinary Hall enforcer, was untouchable.

His nickname?

“The Grim Star.”

The chefs and servants stood frozen, not daring to breathe too loudly.

Just then, Lian Tianxing’s gaze snapped toward the backyard…

The serpent, having just swallowed a chunk of fatty meat, raised its head. That scent was unmistakable—the perpetually scowling Lian Tianxing. His entire demeanor screamed “I’m here to pick a fight.”

Unbelievable. Out of the five or six meals I get a month, I had to run into this lunatic today.

Before it could flee, a cold, grim face appeared before it.

“Chef Zhang! Since when do we allow beasts in the kitchen?!”

The plump chef broke into a sweat. Though his title sounded respectable, he was just a lowly servant in the sect. Offending a high-ranking disciple could cost him his life, and no one would bat an eye.

The serpent rose upright, hissing a warning. It couldn’t stand by and let the chef suffer for its sake.

There’s no way this bastard would actually kill me… right?

“Hsss—!”

“You dare?!”

The serpent had never believed Lian Tianxing was truly unhinged—until now.

With a single palm strike, the low-level serpent was sent flying.

The nine-meter-long serpent crashed through the kitchen doors and windows, tumbling into the dining hall. It flipped three tables and bowled over several disciples before finally skidding to a stop.

Dizzy and tasting blood, the serpent realized it had suffered internal injuries.

Even Lian Tianxing knew he’d gone too far. Yu Rong’s pet snake wasn’t just any beast—his master’s younger sister had always treated him kindly, even offering cultivation guidance. Today, he’d crossed a line.

But it was too late for regrets.

The serpent’s mind erupted in unprintable curses.

Unable to speak, it could only fight back physically.

I might not win, but I’ll make sure you know I’m not afraid to die!

With a furious lunge, the serpent rampaged through the dining hall, smashing tables and sending dishes flying. Disciples screamed and scrambled over each other to escape.

Lian Tianxing, whose anger had barely subsided, flushed crimson at the chaos.

“YOU WRETCHED BEAST—!”

He drew his sword, eyes blazing.

The serpent’s instincts screamed at it to flee, but pride held it in place. Instead, it dove into the crowd, using panicking disciples as human shields.

“COME OUT AND FACE ME! I’LL SKIN YOU ALIVE!”

Yeah, no.

The serpent zigzagged between legs and under tables, too slippery to catch. The dining hall descended into absolute bedlam—shouts, crashes, and the occasional flying bowl painting a scene straight out of a marketplace brawl.

The head chef and his staff could only stand there, dumbfounded.

Meanwhile, at Taiji Plaza…

A silver-haired young man frowned as he sensed the disturbance.

In a flash, he vanished, reappearing above the dining hall.

Below, disciples were scrambling out of doors and windows, tables were shattered, and food littered the floor.

It was, without exaggeration, the most chaotic scene in Pure Yang Palace’s history.

The newcomer was none other than Qi Yun, one of the Five Pure Yang Elders and head of Purple Void Palace.

A stickler for rules, Qi Yun oversaw discipline and sect defense. Seeing this unprecedented mess, his temper exploded.

“ENOUGH!”

His thunderous roar shook the mountain.

A crushing pressure descended, pinning everyone to the ground—including the rampaging serpent, Lian Tianxing, and even Xu Ling, who had just arrived to mediate and promptly face-planted at the entrance.

Not a soul dared to move.

With a single glance, Qi Yun grasped the situation. His piercing gaze swept over the serpent, sending a chill down its spine, before settling on Lian Tianxing. This chapter was taken from novelping dot com without permission.

“Tianxing!”

“Uncle Qi, let me explain—”

“SILENCE!”

Qi Yun’s roar cut him off mid-sentence.

“As the Sect Master’s second disciple, you pick fights with animals?! Have you no shame?!”

Lian Tianxing kneeled, not daring to utter another word.

The serpent, meanwhile, peeked upward through the gaping hole in the roof (courtesy of the chaos).

“Lian Tianxing, for disturbing the sect’s peace, you are sentenced to three months of seclusion on Reflection Cliff! Do you accept this punishment?”

“…This disciple submits.”

After kowtowing twice, Lian Tianxing rose and flew off toward the cliff, his face dark with humiliation.

Qi Yun then turned to the serpent, his eyebrow twitching. The snake froze, not even daring to flick its tongue.

Will this rule-obsessed elder suddenly decide to make serpent stew?

“Xu Ling!”

“Ah? Y-Yes, Uncle Qi!”

“Take this unruly serpent back to Clear Void Palace and discipline it properly! For three months, it is banned from the kitchen!”

“…Understood.”

Xu Ling couldn’t believe Qi Yun had let the serpent off so lightly. Since when did the inflexible elder show mercy?

Then again, as one of the Five Pure Yang Elders, he could hardly stoop to punishing a mere snake spirit.

“Disperse! And repair this dining hall immediately!”

With a flick of his sleeve, Qi Yun vanished into thin air—a feat the serpent envied deeply.

Meanwhile, en route to Reflection Cliff…

Lian Tianxing’s face darkened further upon hearing Qi Yun’s verdict.

“That damned snake got off with just a kitchen ban…?”

Gritting his teeth, he accelerated, leaving a trail of seething resentment in his wake.

Back at the dining hall, Xu Ling fed the serpent a healing pill, which quickly eased its injuries. Ignoring her scolding, it slithered back to Clear Void Palace…

Only to face Yu Rong’s punishment.

Xu Ling doubled over laughing, while even Yang Mu’s icy mask cracked into a smirk.

Before the hall’s sacred statue, the serpent balanced a red candle on its head, serving as an improvised candlestick under Yu Rong’s orders.
