Cell phones left outside at the express request of the FBI consultant.

The air had that specific weight that only appears when an operation ceases to be hypothetical and becomes inevitable.

Captain Zoe Anderson was at the head of the table, her posture firm.

Sergeant Wade Grey occupied the side table, arms crossed, expression attentive.

Angela Lopez, Tim Bradford, and Talia Bishop were seated in a line, each with an open notepad.

And, standing before the screen, remote control in hand, was Jessica Russo.

Harry occupied the chair closest to the wall.

Not out of habit, but by choice.

Jessica took a deep breath before beginning.

“Thank you for staying,” she said.

“What I’m about to present doesn’t leave this room.

Not in a report.

Not in hallway conversation.”

She clicked the remote.

A world map appeared on the screen.

Red lines connected points between London, Marseille, Istanbul, Beirut, and Los Angeles.

“The main target is Karim Al-Hassan,” Jessica said.

“Officially, a businessman in the import/export sector.

Unofficially, a financial and logistical intermediary for extremist cells, arms trafficking, and money laundering.”

Tim frowned.

“He doesn’t seem… big enough for that kind of reach.”

Jessica nodded.

“Because he doesn’t show up,” she replied.

“He connects.

He never pulls the trigger.

He never carries the package.

He just makes sure everything gets where it needs to go.”

Angela took notes quickly.

“And what’s the objective of the operation?” she asked.

Jessica changed the slide.

“Karim is in Los Angeles,” she said.

“For the first time in years.

We have a 72-hour window to identify local contacts, intercept a financial transfer, and link that to a shipment entering through the port of Long Beach.”

Wade leaned forward further.

“And you need us because…?”

“Because Karim doesn’t react well to federal agents,” Jessica replied.

“But he does react well to the local police.

Especially when he thinks he’s dealing with routine matters, not an international investigation.”

Talia tilted her head.

“Where exactly do we come in?”

Jessica took a deep breath.

“You come in as an invisible layer.

Normal patrol.

Common approaches.

Nothing that raises red flags.”

She paused briefly.

“Except for one detail.”

Everyone automatically looked at Harry.

Jessica followed the gaze.

“Karim knows Harry.”

Silence fell immediately.

Angela turned to him.

“Knows… how?”

Harry answered before Jessica needed to.

“He’d recognize me,” he said.

“But not at first.

Only if I tell him.”

Tim crossed his arms.

— Is this good or bad?

— It depends on when we use it.

— Jessica replied.

— And if we use it.

Zoe kept her voice steady.

— Explain the previous relationship.

Jessica nodded and changed the slide again.

The image was now of London at night, rain reflecting lights on cobblestones.

— London, 2013.

— she began.

— A joint operation between the FBI, MI6, and a special SAS cell.

The objective was to intercept a transfer that would finance an attack on European soil.

She looked at Harry for a second, then continued.

— I was the FBI liaison.

Harry… — she made a vague gesture — was both the problem and the solution.

Angela frowned.

— This needs more details.

Jessica smiled slightly.

— It really does.

She turned to Harry.

— Do you want to tell this part… or would you prefer I tell it?

Harry took a deep breath.

“—You can tell us,” he said.

“I’ll add to it.”

Jessica nodded.

“—Karim had arranged the transfer at a safe house on the outskirts of Camden,” she explained.

“Everything was going according to plan… until the cell leaked.”

Tim straightened up.

“Leaked how?”

“—Someone warned Karim,” Jessica replied.

“When we went in, the house was empty.

But armed.”

She changed the slide.

Blurred photos of a destroyed house.

“—We lost two agents that night,” she said, her voice becoming more restrained.

“The operation turned into a manhunt.”

Angela swallowed hard.

“—Where does Harry come in?”

Jessica looked directly at him now.

“—He noticed something that nobody else noticed,”

Harry spoke, his voice low.

“—Karim hadn’t fled,” he said.

“He had moved horizontally, not outwards.”

Wade frowned.

— Horizontally?

— He moved buildings.

— Harry explained.

— To observe who would follow.

Jessica nodded.

— Harry convinced command not to activate overt units.

— he continued.

— He said that if Karim was watching, he would only react to something… human.

Tim leaned forward.

— And what did you do?

Harry replied:

— We walked.

Angela blinked.

— What do you mean, walked?

— We walked through the nearby streets.

— Harry said.

— Like civilians.

Without radios.

Without visible support.

Jessica smiled, despite the weight of the memory.

— I thought he was crazy.

— she admitted.

— I told him that to his face.

— I did.

— Harry confirmed.

— And what did you reply?

— Talia asked.

— That Karim only trusted patterns.

— Harry said

Jessica changed the slide.

Now, a grainy security camera image.

“It worked,” she said.

“Karim went out to check.

And, by chance… he ran into us.”

Angela’s eyes widened.

“By chance?”

Harry shook his head.

“There’s no such thing as chance at that level,” he said.

“Did he recognize you?” Tim asked.

“Not at that moment,” Harry replied.

“But he analyzed me.”

Jessica continued:

“The conversation lasted less than two minutes,” she said.

“Karim believed Harry was just a European consultant out of context.

Enough to lower his guard.”

“And you?” Angela asked Jessica.

“I was ‘the lost American,'” she replied.

“It worked better than it seems.”

Wade let out a slow breath.

“And how did it end?”

Silence returned.

Harry replied:

“With a short chase,” he said.

“And the seizure of the money.”

Jessica added:

“And with Harry preventing Karim from killing an informant who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Angela stared at Harry.

“You never mentioned this.”

“It wasn’t relevant until now,” he replied.

Zoe tapped her fingers lightly on the table.

“And now he’s in Los Angeles,” she said.

“And he knows you.”

“Yes,” Harry confirmed.

“But he doesn’t know where I am.”

Jessica leaned forward.

“The idea of the operation is simple,” she said.

“Local patrol makes indirect contact.

Observes.

Records.

If Karim notices Harry…” she paused, “we control the narrative.”

Tim let out a short, humorless laugh.

“Controlling the narrative is never simple.”

“No,” Jessica agreed.

“But it’s better than improvising under fire.” Angela raised her hand.

“I want to make something clear,” she said.

“Harry is not bait.”

Harry opened his mouth to speak, but Zoe interrupted him.

“I agree,” said the captain.

“He will not be used without complete control of this room.”

Jessica nodded immediately.

“Absolutely,” she said.

“If at any point you say no, the operation will adjust.”

Wade watched intently.

“And what if Karim recognizes you?” he asked Harry.

Harry answered without hesitation.

“Then I’ll talk,” he said.

“And that buys time.”

Talia tilted her head.

“Time for what?”

“For you to move,” Harry replied.

The silence returned, heavy, but now there was something different.

Understanding.

Jessica took a deep breath and turned off the projection.

“That’s all for now,” she said.

— Tactical planning starts early tomorrow.

She picked up the tablet and, for a moment, let her professional tone drop.

— Harry… — she said more quietly — good to see you standing.

Harry held her gaze.

— Good to see you without your vest.

— he replied.

She smiled slightly.

— I still haven’t gotten used to it.

Zoe stood up.

— Very well.

— he said.

— Everyone dismissed.

Except Potter.

Angela looked at him, worried, but Harry only nodded.

When the room emptied, Zoe, Jessica, and Harry remained.

Zoe crossed her arms.

— It seems you and Agent Russo share more than just reports.

— she said.

Harry was honest.

— We share survival.

— he replied.

Jessica nodded.

— And that creates bonds that are difficult to explain on paper.

Zoe took a deep breath.

“Mr.

Potter…” she said, “do you still just want to be a police officer?”

Harry answered without hesitation.

“Yes.”

“Even with all this?” Zoe insisted.

“Mostly because of this,” Harry replied.

Zoe watched him for a long moment.

“Then let’s do this right,” she said finally.

“No lone heroes.

No decisions outside this table.”

Harry nodded.

“Always.”

Jessica picked up her coat.

“Welcome back to the board, Harry.”

He smiled wearily.

“I was enjoying patrolling simple streets.”

Jessica chuckled softly.

“Nobody with your history stays out of the noise for long.”

When she left, Harry stood still for a few seconds.

The past was there.

Named.

Planned.

Used.

But, for the first time, he wasn’t alone in it.

And that… changed everything.
