The tension in the room reached a breaking point as the struggle intensified. Florianthum’s muscles locked under the overwhelming pressure of the encounter. A ragged gasp escaped her throat- a raw "Ahh..." -but she remained determined to maintain her composure. She refused to yield to the situation, her hands gripping the floor and her voice as low as possible through the heavy iron armet; she fought to stay grounded amidst the overwhelming physical sensation.
Cassius could feel the intensity of her resistance. The atmosphere in the small space became incredibly heavy, filled with the sharp, metallic scent of struggle. Despite the cold radiating from the stone floor, the adrenaline of the moment kept the air charged. He maintained his hold, ensuring she couldn’t break away as the silent battle of wills continued.
The vice-like grip of his ankles tightened around her ribs, squeezing the remaining air from her lungs until her ribs groaned under the strain. Every heavy, rhythmic swallow echoed brutally in the cramped confines of the stone cell. Desperation finally broke through her palms against his chest, digging her fingers into his shoulders and pushing with everything she had left to tear his throat away from her neck. But her strength was fading fast; he didn’t budge an inch.
Suddenly, the frantic swallowing stopped. Cassius slowly, deliberately pulled his fangs free from her flesh. Her soft, bright neck skin got a deep gash from his sharp fangs, and as soon as he pulled his fangs out of it, her light blue blood flowed out all over her neck at that point.
He leaned back just enough to look at her, his pitch-black, void-;ike eyes staring through the narrow slit of her armet, pinning her human gaze. He slow-licked his lower lip, tasting the strange, metallic heat of her light blue colored blood as it dripped from the tips of his fangs. The contrast of the glowing blue fluid against his skin looked otherworldly in the dim dark.
A sharp, savage sigh escaped him. The void in his eyes began to recede, bleeding back into his normal irises, though the feral edge remained. Strands of damp, messy hair hung loose across his forehead, and a heavy bead of sweat rolled down his jawline, dripping off his chin onto the cold floor. His lips twitched, pulling upward into a slow, mocking smirk right in her face.
A low, grating chuckle rattled in his chest- quiet, yet sharp enough to slice through the silence of the cell.
"No shouting?" He whispered, his voice dangerously soft. "King’s beloved soldier loves getting bites, usually? Haha!" He said this while laughing.
Florianthum’s eyes burned with a pure, murderous fury through the slit of her helmet. Even in the gloom, the deep, hot flush of humiliation and rage reddening her cheeks was unmistakable. She looked ready to tear him apart with her bare teeth, inside that armet.
But before she could spit out a retort, a sharp, heavy thud echoed through the stone corridor.
Step. Step. Step.
Someone was marching straight toward their cell.
The sudden sound hung in the air like a swinging blade. The taunting smirk died on Cassius’s lips, and his muscles instantly locked. Without a second of hesitation, Florianthum shattered her own silence. She didn’t call for help- she erupted with the raw, terrifying fury of a wounded predator.
"NO NEED!" she screamed toward the heavy iron door, her voice cracking with savage pride. "I will handle this piece of slave alone! If you want to die, then only arrive here!"
The corridor outside went dead silent. The approaching footsteps instantly stopped.
She snapped her head back around to glare at Cassius. Her chest heaved, her voice dropping into a lethal, razor-sharp whisper that barely carried across the inches between them.
"Keep that loud mouth shut," she hissed, her eyes boring into his. "Unless you want me to flay the skin from your bones right here."
Cassius didn’t pull away. Instead, he leaned in closer, his breath hot against her face. "Go ahead," he whispered back, his voice dripping with dark amusement. "But why do you care so much? You already knew I would, didn’t you?"
A sudden, violent chill rippled down Florianthum’s spine at his words. She fought to keep her composure, forcing her muscles to remain rigid as she whispered through clenched teeth, "Slaves truly are fools. I have no interest in your games, nor do I care to decode your nonsense."
Cassius tilted his head, leaning his face right against the cold metal of her armet with the mocking, playful malice of a child teasing its prey. The slow, infuriating smirk returned to his lips.
"And yet, you let a slave take a bite of yours," he murmured, his voice a low, melodic purr. "You saved me from those guards because you knew the truth. My voice is just like yours- far too tempting to those foolish vampires out there-"
Before the words could even fully leave his mouth, Florianthum’s patience completely shattered. Striking with the speed of an angry cobra, she brought her hand down in a resounding, unceremonious slap right across the side of his head.
Smack!
The force of the blow sent Cassius careening sideways. He crashed onto the stone floor with a heavy thud, his legs finally untangling from her torso. For a few agonizing seconds, the entire cell spun like a carousel. Cassius lay flat on his back, staring blankly at the ceiling as cartoonish imaginary birds practically chirped around his messy hair, his brain completely short-circuiting from the sheer, unglamorous impact of the slap.
Through the narrow slit of her armet, Florianthum’s eyes practically twitched with pure, unadulterated irritation.
She scrambled to her feet, brushing the dust off her armor with aggressive, jerky movements. Her royal composure was entirely gone, replaced by the sheer exasperation of someone dealing with a toddler rather than a dangerous prisoner. Unable to contain her annoyance, she stomped toward the iron door and screamed into the hallway at the top of her lungs.
"COME OUT HERE, OR YOU ALL WILL DIE!" she roared, gesturing wildly back at the floor. "WHAT IDIOT IS THIS SLAVE... A PURE IDIOT! AN ABSOLUTE, BRAINLESS IDIOT!"
Cassius’s spinning vision suddenly snapped back into focus. Panic replaced his daze. Realising she was about to ruin the very cover she had just fought to keep, he scrambled to a sit, his eyes wide with genuine concern.
"What are you doing?!" he hissed loudly, throwing his tied hands up in disbelief. "STOP IT!"
But it was too late. The heavy clatter of iron armor echoed instantly down the corridor. Drawn by her frantic insults, two guards came sprinting around the corner, weapons drawn, halting abruptly right in front of the cell bars.
The guards are officially at the door!
The two guards fumbled with the heavy iron keys, their hands shaking so badly that the metal clattered against the lock before they finally threw the cell door open. They rushed inside, their eyes darting wildly between the prisoner on the floor and the commander.
One of them took one look at her collar and practically tripped over his own boots in a panic. "Madam Florianthum!" he stammered, his voice cracking violently. "Are you alright?! Your- your neck! Why is there blood all over your neck?!"
Florianthum didn’t bother wasting her breath on a verbal explanation. With a fluid, blindingly fast motion, she drew her sword from its scabbard, flipped the hilt in her palm, and brought the heavy pommel down squarely on top of the guard’s helmet.
Bonk!
The metallic ring echoed loudly in the confined space. The guard’s eyes instantly rolled into the back of his head, his knees buckling as he wobbled on the spot like a loose tooth.
"Break his ribs, you brainless cowards, or I will bury you both beneath this prison!" Florianthum roared, pointing a furious, gauntleted finger down at Cassius, who was still trying to shake the cobwebs out of his own head.
The second guard, pale as a ghost and desperate to avoid the same fate as his twitching partner, immediately raised his baton and lunged toward Cassius.
The chaos in the cell has completely boiled over!
The remaining guard didn’t hesitate. Desperate to escape Florianthum’s wrath, he lunged forward and began aggressively laying into Cassius with his heavy, iron-shod combat boots.
Thud! Whack! Oof!
Cassius rolled into a pathetic ball on the stone floor, tucking his elbows to his back as the massive boots rained down on him. It was less of a dramatic prison beating and more of a clumsy, chaotic mess. Every time a boot connected, Cassius bounced slightly against the cold floor, his messy hair flapping wildly with every impact.
Between the dizzying after-effects of Florianthum’s legendary slap and the heavy thuds to his ribs, his voice vibrated like a broken instrument. Twisting his head around from under the guard’s legs, he glared up at Florianthum, who was turning the other way in fury, with her arms folded and eyes closed in pride. Cassius’s words fumbled out in a rattled, breathless yell.
"This- oof -this isn’t fair!" Cassius shouted, his voice cracking violently as a boot caught his shoulder. "You’re- ow -you’re completely cheating! This is a total foul!"
Florianthum just stood straight, completely unbothered by his dramatic protests, and savagely uttered a few words out of her mouth through that armet, "An eye for an eye. Beat for blood. Totally fair!"
The chaos continues.
Meanwhile, far from the chaotic grime of the prison cells, the atmosphere in the castle’s massive grand hall was suffocatingly thick with the heavy scent of copper and expensive incense.
Under the grand, vaulted ceilings, the elite vampires of the realm were indulging in a horrific, unrestrained blood feast. It was a display of absolute, unvarnished cruelty. Dozens of enslaved vampires lay broken across the cold golden floors, treated as nothing more than living cattle. The elites moved among them with predatory malice- viciously tearing away the slaves’ clothes, handling them with aggressive, inappropriate entitlement, and digging their long claws directly into helpless flesh to drink the freshest blood straight from the source. The hall echoed with a sickening mixture of cruel laughter and muffled low weepings.
At the center of it all, elevated on his dark throne, was the Vampire King, Lord Vilucious.
He presided over the carnage with a chilling detachment, consumed by his own display of dominance. He held a terrified vampire slave in a crushing grip, maintaining a dark and unsettling hold over her. His presence was overwhelming as he asserted his absolute authority, ignoring her tremors of fear while he focused on the feast before him.
The heavy, echoing toll of a bronze bell cut through the chaotic din of the grand hall. The announcement from the balcony occurred again:
"Lord Vilucious’s sake, we have all granted this fabulous opportunity!" the herald cried out, his voice dripping with forced reverence. "Now, as per the ancient ceremonial rules, it is time to call out the beloved and the highest rankers of our realm!"
