Senior Brother moved first, His blade cut across the berserker’s shoulder splitting the flesh as blood flowed in a thin line.
The Berserker looked at his wound.
Then he smiled. Wider than before.
The Senior narrowed his eyes and attacked again, aimed his sword across the ribs.
The berserker staggered one step.
But he continued smiling.
"Creepy" Ren commented.
Blood was visible at the cut on the berserker.
But he looked happy as if the injury pleased him.
His grin stretched further.
He rushed forward without a weapon, he was fast, Senior barely lifted his blade in time. His palm struck steel and the impact pushed Senior brother several steps back.
His boots carved deep lines in the soil as the blood droplets from the wound at his palm fell on the soil.
The berserker inhaled sharply.
The flesh around his palms which were buried deep into the sword bled, but his smile did not change instead it widened again.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
The Senior’s expression changed, he pulled the sword back and then he lunged faster.
This time he thrust.
The blade pierced straight through the berserker’s chest, the tip of the sword was visible from the berserker's back.
For a moment, it looked final but the berserker leaned closer while the sword was still inside him.
He stepped forward against it.
Blood slid slowly down the steel.
His grin split his face nearly to the ears.
“More,” he whispered.
His hand seized the Senior’s wrist.
Where they touched, the Senior’s sleeve paled, the cloth lost color and dried.
Similarly the grass around his feet began to lose color, it dried.
The Senior pulled the blade free and retreated opening the wound in the berserker’s chest.
The Senior attacked again making three precise cuts.
Each deeper than the last.
And at each time, The smile grew.
"What kind of being is it?"
Outer disciples looked at the Berserker in horror.
The grass on the soil beneath the berserker’s feet dried then turned black.
The wounds were harming him but it looked as if they were giving him what he wanted.
The Senior changed strategy, and when the berserker lunged again, the Senior did not slash.
He stepped inside the attack.
Their bodies collided.
The blade drove forward and pierced through the heart.
The smile froze in place.
The berserker’s eyes flickered.
Confusion replaced pleasure.
His body began losing the color. The Senior held him in place.
He died smiling on the sword of the Senior.
Death of the Berserker was not celebrated, but left the silence. The Senior stood alone and pushed the dead body down, and pulled his sword out.
It looked older with a rough edge.
His robes hung looser than before.
The air around him felt colder as he stared at the place where the berserker had fallen.
“You are not human anymore,” he said quietly.
Then his head turned slowly, His eyes met Yan’s.
A smile began to form.
Wide.
Familiar.
Yan held his breath once.
"What happened?" Ren looked at Yan.
