Elia kept on glancing to her side at the one sitting in the driver’s seat.

As soon as she got outside the villa gates, a woman in a crisp custom suit introduced herself as Mira and said she was the one assigned by Samuel to take her out of the pack.

The Crimson Moon Pack.

The more time she spent here, the more her curiosity grew.

She had seen men turning into beasts but not a woman.

Was the one sitting beside her, this beautiful girl one of them?

Could she also shift or turn into a wolf?

It was fascinating to imagine.

“You can ask me anything you want, Luna”

Elia was startled when Mira suddenly talked to her.

“I think you got my name wrong, I’m Elia”

Mira briefly glanced at her before returning her attention to the road, “You are Alpha Asheron’s mate right?”

It took a moment for Elia to comprehend what she had heard before she could reply, “I guess so.” How did this woman know it so soon?

Did the brothers tell her?

“Everyone in the pack is talking about it, we heard about the Alpha recognising a human as his true mate. It was a shock to all of us”

“Oh” Was all Elia could mutter.

What else was she supposed to say?

It was a surprise to her too.

She didn’t get recognized every day as somebody’s mate.

It was a trippy thing that had happened in her life.

While Elia had few thoughts, Mira seemed like she wanted to talk more, “We couldn’t believe it when we first heard it, a wolf has not recognised a true mate for almost a millennium now. It was like a legend come true”

Elia took this as an opportunity to ask what was running through her mind, “Are you guys happy with this?” The brothers sure weren’t.

Yes, it was rare, yes, it was a first after a long time, but were the ones involved in it really happy?

She wouldn’t have been very pleased if she suddenly had a soulmate that she didn’t even know, that she didn’t even ask for.

A predetermined partner?

It felt more like an invasion and disregard for her personal choice and feelings.

Elia could understand the brothers.

They got someone that they didn’t want.

While a giant turmoil swirled inside Elia’s mind, Mira smiled.

She had a clear and genuine smile as she replied to her previous question, “Happy is an understatement, Luna. All of us are ecstatic about your arrival. Many wanted to meet you but are afraid of offending the Alphas”

That felt like an exaggeration.

Why would they be ecstatic about meeting a Human?

Elia managed to awkwardly smile back as she couldn’t help but ask, “But I’m a human”

“So?”

“I mean isn’t it weird to have a human as your Alpha’s mate? I heard I was the first” She was talking about what Alan had said to her.

According to him, Elia was the first human ever to get recognised by a wolf.

Mira nodded, “No wolf has had a human mate ever before, not even in old records”

“That’s what I heard”

“Your identity doesn’t matter, Luna” That caught Elia’s attention, “You were chosen by the moongoddess as our Alpha’s mate, the fates decided you to make our Luna, there is no bigger blessing than that”

It sounded like a lot of hocus pocus, but Elia chose not to comment on it.

She had no right to trample on other people’s beliefs.

Whatever that was between her and the brothers, Mira and some people in the pack clearly thought of it as important.

Who was she to deny it?

“I hope you do find your mate, Mira” Elia genuinely wished for it.

Mira’s words alone said enough.

She really wanted a true mate.

If anyone deserved a mate, it was Mira, “I also hope you recognize a wolf as your mate,” not a Human.

Words weren’t said but Mira understood Elia’s sentiment.

When Elia maintained her silence after saying her inner thoughts, Mira interpreted it as the former showing reluctance towards the mate bond.

Hence she decided to say what she had in her mind, “Your arrival has been igniting the lost hope in our hearts. Our ancestors have tried and failed to bring back the mate bond. The stories we heard till now about the relationship between true mates have etched themselves in our minds. It doesn’t matter if our mate is a human or a wolf to many of us”

Those were some heavy words.

Elia looked at Mira.

The latter had a look of almost reverence as she continued, “With you here, many think the true mate bond is returning. We can finally experience what it means to be tied beyond our mortal lives. The love, dedication, and the pull towards our true mate, we want to feel it too”

“Even if your mates are humans?”

“The person in question will be my mate first and then a human”

“Mira ….” Elia had to stop her.

The way Mira talked about the mate bond made her feel overwhelmed.

It meant so much to their kind but to her, “I don’t feel anything that you are saying. I don’t think humans will feel that pull unlike you guys”

When she saw the brothers, the first feeling she experienced was fear.

Even when they acted like unleashed beasts for her, all she felt was dread and weariness.

None of the positive feelings Mira talked about came to Elia in their presence.

“This is unfair to you all,” Elia said, “If by chance some of you do recognise a human as your mate, then what? We will feel nothing, and what if we don’t reciprocate your feelings? My people don’t like getting tied up like that, they will rebel and outright reject you if you pursue when they are not interested.” At least the brothers didn’t want Elia to be their mate or else she would run as far away as she could from them.

Fortunately, they had the same mind as hers.

Elia wanted to complete the contract successfully and be done with it.

While Elia thought practically, Mira’s views were opposite to it, “You accepted Alpha Asheron, I believe other humans will too after they learn about the importance of the mate bond” New chapters come out on NovelPing first.

It was like a whiplash.

Mira’s words made her freeze.

This sweet woman was full of hope and anticipation because she believed in Elia’s farce.

The truth was completely different than what Mira thought.

How could she say that she and her Alphas had an agreement between them?

That they didn’t accept the mate bond.

Meeting Mira put everything in perspective.

Elia must act and lie to the people who were ready to welcome her as their own, even though she was a human.

It left a bad taste in her mouth.

The next six months will not be easy.

Deceiving innocent people felt wrong, but Elia had no other choice.

The two women maintained silence thereafter until Elia reached Lena’s apartment.

She got out of the car as she informed, “I will be back after packing my luggage”

Mira nodded, “Please call me if you need any help”

Elia smiled and turned back to walk inside the building.

Her steps were hurried, and she looked down at her phone, checking the time before taking an elevator to reach the third floor.

‘Knock knock.’ Her second knock had yet to reach before the door was wrenched open.

Lena’s worried face was the first thing that came into her view which made Elia tear up.

“Lena…..” She whimpered as she reached to hug her friend.

All the tension and stress of the day melted away.

Elia felt truly safe after a long time.

Lena, on the other hand, rubbed her back in a soothing way.

She felt calm seeing Elia safe.

“Where were you?” Her interrogation started before Elia could stop crying, “The people from your job interview called me, saying that you didn’t arrive. I searched everywhere, called you a hundred times, but there was no trace of you. I was on my way to the police station when you finally messaged me saying that you are fine. What happened, Elia? I thought you were kidnapped or something…”

Lena’s voice dragged on and came to an abrupt stop when Elia flinched when kidnapping was mentioned.

“Don’t tell me….” Her eyes were wide, “Were you really kidnapped?”

Elia pursed her lips and meekly nodded making Lena gasp.

“Oh my god!” Lena fussed as she roamed her eyes along Elia’s body making sure she was alright.

Her face, though, went pale when her gaze fell on the latter’s bandaged hand.

“Elia!” She carefully picked up Elia’s hand as she asked, “What…..my god you are injured!”

“I’m fine, Lena”

“You are not!

You were kidnapped and injured” She panicked and asked something that made Elia stunned, “Was it the Donovans?”

Elia took a moment before she asked, “Lena, how did you know it was the Donovans?”
