Chapter 4: The Orphanage

The Uchiha with a Mission System

After finishing his bath, Yuji returned to his room and changed into a fresh set of clothes. As he tied up his long hair, he opened his daily mission log.

> - Help 3 people. Reward: 0.7 Chakra

- Catch fish and give them to someone else. Reward: 0.5 Chakra

- Defeat a Genin. Reward: Sharingan Enhancement

Looking at the list, Yuji simply nodded.

He picked up his bag and left the house.

Inside were homemade sweet cookies and several other snacks.

"I’ll take care of the first and second missions at the same time," he thought with his usual expressionless face.

His destination today was the Konoha Orphanage.

After walking for more than an hour, he finally arrived in front of the large orphanage building.

From the courtyard came the cheerful voices of children playing.

Yuji walked closer and observed them from a distance.

"Excuse me... Is the director here?"

he asked an older boy.

The boy had been teaching his younger sibling how to read. He turned around when he heard a beautiful little girl carrying a bag speak to him.

"The director is inside. Do you need something?"

he replied.

Then his eyes suddenly landed on the red-and-white Uchiha fan crest on the back of Yuji’s shirt.

His entire body stiffened.

’An Uchiha...’

His face immediately turned a little pale.

"Yes... May I meet them?"

Yuji asked innocently.

"O-Of course. Please wait a moment. I’ll go get someone."

The boy hurried into the orphanage.

While waiting, Yuji looked toward a little girl holding a picture book.

’What an adorable little girl,’ Yuji thought.

’Twin braids, big eyes... She’s really cute.’

The little girl noticed Yuji staring at her and smiled sweetly.

"Would you like a cookie?"

Yuji asked as he took one out of his bag.

"A cookie? Yes! I want one!"

the little girl answered, her eyes sparkling.

Yuji glanced around.

Only then did he realize every other child in the courtyard was staring at him with exactly the same hopeful expression.

In less than a minute...

Yuji found himself surrounded by thirteen pairs of eyes eagerly waiting for cookies.

The director was still taking a bath, so after Daiki—the older boy—called for help, one of the caretakers came downstairs in the director’s place.

As they stepped outside, both of them froze.

A child from the Uchiha Clan was sitting on the ground, patiently handing out cookies to more than a dozen children.

The children sat in a circle around "her," happily munching away.

The caretaker noticed the Uchiha crest on Yuji’s sleeve.

She blinked in disbelief.

’An Uchiha child... handing out cookies at an orphanage? What kind of dream is this?’

"Excuse me, little miss. Is there something I can help you with?"

the caretaker asked as she approached.

Yuji turned around.

Standing before him was a beautiful adult woman wearing glasses.

’Nono Yakushi?’ Yuji thought.

He cleared his throat.

"Ahem... Excuse me. My name is Yuji Uchiha. I’m a boy."

"Sorry for the disturbance."

"I came to deliver a small donation to this orphanage on behalf of my mother."

Nono’s eyes widened.

"Eh? I-I’m so sorry! I sincerely apologize! I thought you were a girl..."

"My name is Nono Yakushi."

"Please forgive me."

"Please come inside, Yuji-san."

"It’s alright."

"Let’s go inside."

Yuji answered casually.

Meanwhile, several boys in the courtyard remained frozen like statues.

Every single one of them had thought Yuji was an incredibly beautiful girl.

Their dreams were shattered in less than a minute.

Inside the orphanage’s reception room, Yuji took out a thick envelope.

"Nono-san, my mother asked me to deliver this donation to the orphanage."

Inside was approximately 140,000 ryō.

Converted into Japanese currency, it was roughly 1,400,000 yen.

It was Yuji’s entire savings.

He rarely spent his allowance, and both of his parents were well-paid Jonin.

His pocket money had always been more than enough.

’It’s better to save it and donate it later,’ he thought.

’Today’s mission is to help three people. Donating to an orphanage should count as helping a lot of people, right?’

’If the System doesn’t count it... then I’ll just find another mission.’

"That’s an incredible amount..."

"May I ask your mother’s name, Yuji-san?"

Nono asked, her eyes widening as she looked at the money.

"My mother’s name is Yumi Uchiha."

"She’s a Jonin serving in the Konoha Military Police Force."

"Please accept it."

"It’s a heartfelt gift from our family."

Yuji gently pushed the envelope toward her.

"...Very well."

"I’ll gladly accept it."

"The children will benefit greatly from this."

Nono smiled warmly.

’So the Uchiha family isn’t as cold as the rumors say after all.’

Mission complete.

Yuji didn’t stay long.

After saying his goodbyes, he walked outside together with Nono.

The children gathered in the courtyard.

Led by Nono, they all bowed at the same time.

"Thank you very much, Yuji-san!"

Yuji simply gave an awkward smile and a polite nod.

Before leaving, he glanced once more at the little girl with the twin braids.

’If Mom had a daughter like her... she’d be so happy,’ he thought.

As he walked away from the orphanage, a faint smile appeared on his face.

He felt proud to be an Uchiha who could help orphaned children.

He glanced at the System interface floating in the corner of his vision.

His smile instantly widened.

> Ding!

Mission: Help 3 People — Completed!

Recalculating reward...

Successfully helped 13 children!

Reward: 2.5 Chakra

’Jackpot.’

Yuji felt a much larger surge of chakra flowing through his body.

"Alright."

"Next mission..."

"I need to find a Genin to defeat."

With that, he walked away, leaving behind an orphanage that was still buzzing with excitement over the "beautiful Miss Uchiha."
