The Void Beast moved swiftly. In just three days, the outline of Ye Territory appeared in view.

At the same time…

Qin Jiang was slightly startled. A new Chosen One? In Ye Territory?

“View it!” Qin Jiang immediately chose to check.

Then, image after image began to appear in his mind. The most prominent was a young man—the new Chosen One.

“Ye Family? Ye Xuan? Damn? The Ye Family produced a Chosen One?”

Qin Jiang opened his eyes and frowned, but soon relaxed. “Well, with a surname like Ye, it’d be strange if there wasn’t a Chosen One.”

He glanced at Ye Ling’er, then continued watching the plotline. As he delved deeper, his expression grew more and more bizarre.

After a while, he rubbed his forehead. “This Ye Xuan… turns out to be Ye Qingtian’s son. Tsk, is this the classic revenge-for-my-father, take-back-everything-that-belongs-to-me setup? But if I weren’t here, would Xiao Fan have ended up clashing with Ye Xuan? A Chosen One showdown?”

[Due to the host’s existence suppressing Xiao Fan, Ye Xuan became the Chosen One. If the host didn’t exist, Ye Xuan wouldn’t have become the Chosen One.]

The system answered Qin Jiang’s doubts.

“There can only be one Chosen One?”

[For now, yes.]

Upon hearing that, Qin Jiang muttered, “Chosen Ones are born to respond to calamities. According to novel tropes, they’re Heaven’s way of saving itself. If one Chosen One gets suppressed, Heaven might produce more… Isn’t that right, System?”

[Correct. Host is very intelligent!]

“So that means there’s going to be a calamity on the Profound Sky Continent? Am I in danger?”

[What if… the calamity is you, Host?]

Qin Jiang: “…”

“What kind of nonsense is that? I’m refined, elegant, kind since birth, careful not to harm even an ant when sweeping, and I shield moths from lamps with silk. How could I be the calamity?”

Qin Jiang was clearly unhappy with the system’s words.

The system gave no further reply.

Qin Jiang let the matter go as well and returned to watching Ye Xuan’s plotline. He also thought of his brother-in-law, Xiao Fan. “So now… what’s Xiao Fan’s situation? Is he still a Chosen One?”

With a new Chosen One appearing, didn’t that mean Xiao Fan had been abandoned by Heaven?

[Host can send someone to check on Xiao Fan. Then you’ll know.]

Qin Jiang grew more curious.

Earlier, he had left behind spirit herbs containing cold poison. To an ordinary person, they’d be deadly. For someone like Xiao Fan with the Flame God Body, cold and fire were completely incompatible.

“System, can’t you just tell me directly?”

Qin Jiang asked.

The system was silent for a moment, then a scene played out in Qin Jiang’s mind—it was Xiao Fan refining the spirit herbs.

Qin Jiang watched curiously.

At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But by the end, Xiao Fan was completely engulfed in flames, letting out blood-curdling screams that startled even Qin Jiang.

“What the hell? Did he burn to death?”

Qin Jiang was stunned.

As the scene continued, the flames finally went out. But Xiao Fan was no longer recognizable as human—his skin had been completely burned away. Because of the flames, there wasn’t even any blood.

Qin Jiang cringed as he watched.

“Tsk… that’s tragic. I swear I didn’t mean for that to happen.”

He shook his head.

He hadn’t even had enough fun with Xiao Fan yet, and a casual hidden trap had already wrecked him.

“System, he’s still alive, right?”

[Alive, but he can never recover. What you saw is what he looks like now.]

Qin Jiang: “…”

Alive, but in that state… death might be kinder.

“What a sin.”

Qin Jiang sighed, debating whether to send someone to put Xiao Fan out of his misery.

“Forget it. I’ll take Ling’er to see him in a few days.”

He muttered to himself.

…

In Ye Territory, after another half a day, they finally reached Ye City.

“Young Master, we’ve arrived at Ye City.”

Hei Long’s voice called from outside the Floating Palace.

Qin Jiang opened his eyes and lifted his head from Ye Ling’er’s lap. He gently held her hand—he could feel she was a little nervous.

“Don’t worry. I’m here.”

Qin Jiang reassured her. Find the original chapter at g.com.

Ye Ling’er nodded and walked out of the Floating Palace with Qin Jiang. Outside, besides Hei Long, quite a few people had gathered in front of the Void Beast.

Qin Jiang looked over. Among them, a woman who looked about seventy percent like Ye Ling’er stood there, visibly emotional. That should be Ye Ling’er’s mother.

Beside her was a middle-aged man with a stern face, but his eyes betrayed excitement. This was Ye Family Patriarch Ye Lingtian, Ye Ling’er’s father.

Both of them glanced at Qin Jiang briefly before their eyes locked on Ye Ling’er—and they couldn’t look away again.

Just one look, and they were certain. That was their daughter!

They had searched for decades. Although portraits had been sent back long ago, this was the first time seeing her in person. The two were at a loss for what to do.

Ye Ling’er lowered her head, but her eyes quietly observed the two. She tightened her grip on Qin Jiang’s hand, clearly nervous.

Ye Kuan noticed all this. He quietly stepped to Qin Jiang’s side and whispered, “Young Master Qin, could you bring the young lady to meet the Patriarch and Madam?”

Qin Jiang glanced at Ye Ling’er, then nodded. He gently squeezed her hand and said softly, “Ling’er, I’ll go with you.”

“Mm~”

Ye Ling’er responded softly.

Qin Jiang smiled and led her over to Ye Lingtian and his wife.

In a few flickers, they were standing right before them.

“Uncle, Aunt, hope we didn’t keep you waiting long?” Qin Jiang greeted with a smile.

The Ye couple snapped out of their daze and quickly shook their heads. “No, no.”

They answered, but their eyes never left Ye Ling’er. As for Qin Jiang, they completely ignored him.

He shrugged—it didn’t bother him.

Ye Mother opened her mouth but was so nervous she didn’t know what to say. As for Ye Lingtian, being a rough man, he was even worse at expressing feelings.

Ye Ling’er mustered her courage and looked up at them, making the two even more tense.

So close, yet silence fell over them like a strange fog.

Qin Jiang glanced between them—this was his first time witnessing such a scene, so he watched curiously.

After a brief silence, Ye Mother realized that the only way to ease the atmosphere… was probably to seek help from Qin Jiang.

She turned toward him and said, “Um…”

“Aunt, you can just call me Xiao Jiang. After all, Ling’er and I are already together.”

Ye Mother: “…”

Ye Lingtian’s eyes narrowed instantly. If it weren’t for Qin Jiang’s high status, he would’ve already taught him a lesson. But now, the family owed Qin Jiang a favor—he had to hold back. His frustration ran deep.
