Crownshade Academy – Front Courtyard, Morning
The cobbled entrance road to Crownshade Academy echoed with the clip-clop of hooves and the creak of wood.
Carriages lined the path—polished obsidian, enchanted gold-trimmed, and sigil-etched vehicles, each bearing the crest of noble houses from across the empire.
And then… came his.
An old, dark-gray carriage—faded paint, worn leather trim, and no visible sigils.
The wheels groaned faintly as it came to a halt just beyond the main gates.
It didn’t shine.
It didn’t announce itself.
But when the door opened, silence followed.
Aeron Blackthorn stepped down.
His movements were unhurried, precise—like someone who had long since mastered the art of stillness.
Gone was the pale, magicless boy from noble gossip.
His body now carried the quiet strength born from the Void System’s awakening and the little bit of training with syste’s help.
His frame, once thin and frail, was now lean and visibly toned beneath the formal uniform.
His posture upright, balanced, like someone familiar with discipline and pain.
His skin had regained its tone, no longer sickly but subtly radiant under the morning sun.
His outfit—obsidian black with soft blue trim—fit cleanly across his shoulders and chest.
Silver-threaded runes glinted faintly across the hem, trousers and a pair of polished boots.
His hair, once long and unkempt, was now trimmed clean, shaped to frame the sharp lines of his face.
Eyes dark, expression calm.
Still, unreadable.
Handsome—not through nobility’s grooming, but by sheer presence.
A man reborn from silence and shadow.
“Isn’t that…?” a noble whispered near a gleaming golden carriage.
“That’s the Blackthorn heir?
He looks…”
“…different.”
Aeron didn’t react.
He adjusted his cuffs, stepped through the whispering nobles, and headed toward the registration steps—where new students were directed to await evaluation.
Let’s see how things unfold now…
With a soft smile.
Aeron stepped forward.
As he walked along the stone path leading toward the academy’s registration hall, Aeron let his thoughts settle.
Why am I here?
It wasn’t just the System’s quest thread that had brought him.
No.
He needed to be here.
Now that he had awakened power—real, undeniable power—it would be suspicious if he suddenly started growing stronger in isolation.
The nobles might investigate.
The royals might notice.
Worse, he could be labeled a threat before he even began.
The Academy provides structure.
Legitimacy.
A veil.
With his family’s a tiny bit of wealth, if you can call it that.
He knew he wouldn’t be able to gather resources that can help him grow strong.
But the Academy gave access to training, spell archives, mana stones, protected dueling grounds—and most importantly, it gave him room to grow stronger without drawing political fire.
Crownshade would act as a shield.
And a forge.
His footsteps echoed lightly across the marble as he passed under the great arch.
His eyes scanning the beautifully carved stones, the structure.
The Academy’s beauty wasn’t any less than a great castle.
Well kept gardens with variety of flowers, corridors, training fields, dormitories and the buildings
He glanced up at the tall towers of Crownshade Academy.
The journey had begun.
And it would not be wasted.
After some time – Trial Grounds
All the contestants after their registration were gathered in the open training ground inside the academy.
The trial field was divided into three phases, each designed to test a different strength.
Dozens of new applicants stood on polished stone tiles marked with arcane sigils, watched by instructors robed in silver and red.
The crowd buzzed with nervous excitement.
Master Arwin, a tall man with braided silver hair, stood at the center of the stage.
“Applicants,” he called, “your trials today will consist of three stages.
Each test will assess a core aspect of your magical potential.”
He raised his hand, and the sigils lit up beneath their feet.
“The First Trial—Mana Conduction.
Place your hand on the mana crystal.
We will determine your compatibility and raw flow.”
One by one, students moved to the glowing crystals.
When Aeron stepped forward, whispers followed.
“Is that really him?”
“I heard he was magicless.”
“Why’s he even here?”
Aeron ignored them and placed his palm on the crystal.
It pulsed.
Not bright—but deep.
A swirling violet-black light emanated from within, drawing gasps.
“Void-type…?” one of the instructors muttered.
“Impossible.
That element is sealed.”
“Not sealed,” another corrected quietly.
“Just… lost.”
Aeron stepped back in silence.
But the instructor’s eyes followed…
curious and maybe something more.
Second Trial – Elemental Affinity
Students were instructed to attempt forming elemental sigils in open air.
Fire, wind, earth, water—traditional elements taught across the continent.
Aeron raised his hand.
But instead of raw flame or swirling water, a dark thread of void spiraled around his fingers.
It didn’t roar.
It whispered.
Even the instructors looked uneasy.
“His control is absurdly stable.”
“He’s suppressing the reaction entirely…”
“But wasn’t the Blackthorn’s famous for their affinity with fire?.”
Aeron turned away from the stares.
He knew if any of the instructor got too much curious about him, it would be a problem.
But everyone wasn’t that much lucky.
Some wasn’t able to form anything, some formed but it wasn’t stable.
Instructors guided them towards the exit, saying ‘They should try against next year’.
Third Trial – Magical Combat
The arena shifted again.
Stone plates reconfigured themselves into a dueling ring—outlined in glowing red and gold runes.
Master Arwin raised a hand.
“Final trial—Combat Assessment.
Applicants will face one another for a controlled match.
Non-lethal wards are active.
Break the seal around your opponent, and you win.”
The crowd stirred with excitement.
Duels were the real entertainment.
“First pairing…” the scribe read from the floating scroll, “Aeron Blackthorn versus… Vale Harrens.”
A young man with curled blond hair stepped forward.
His black dueling coat was embroidered with golden vines—the insignia of House Harrens, a merchant-noble house that had recently risen through influence and gold.
“Didn’t know ghosts could duel,” Vale said with a smirk as they stepped into the ring.
Aeron didn’t respond.
“You sure you want to do this?” Vale taunted.
“Might lose your one remaining strand of family pride.”
Still, Aeron said nothing.
His expression remained still as stone.
The arena hushed.
The rune circle lit.
“Begin!”
Vale launched first.
A burst of fire swirled toward Aeron—a classic Flame Spiral, well-formed but predictable.
Aeron sidestepped without haste, the flames licking past him.
Vale narrowed his eyes and conjured Wind Needles, a barrage spell meant to test defense.
Aeron moved again—elegant, slow, like he was walking through rain instead of dodging attacks.
[System: Void Perception active.]
The world slowed slightly.
Mana flows lit up behind Vale’s coat—every gesture traced like chalk on black glass.
Then Aeron moved.
His hand flicked up.
A ripple of black energy surged from his palm—not loud, not flashy.
But dense.
Concentrated.
[Void Latch.]
It latched to Vale’s casting arm like a snake of compressed darkness—instantly disrupting the flow of mana through his spell.
Vale gasped.
Aeron stepped forward once, and with a second flick—
[Void Seal – Pulse Disrupt.]
The air cracked.
Vale’s defensive ward shattered around him, the sigil runes collapsing in a blink.
The bell rang.
“Match over.
Aeron Blackthorn won.”
Silence.
Total silence.
Even the wind paused.
Vale stared, stunned.
Aeron turned his back and walked to the edge of the ring.
He hadn’t even broken a sweat.
Then whispers rose.
The crowd slowly came alive.
“Did he… seal a second circle spell?” “That wasn’t fire, was it?
What was that…?” “Void-type?
But… that’s forbidden magic…” “No.
That was control.
Not corruption.”
One staff member leaned toward another.
“Did you sense the density of his mana?” “I thought it was artifact-enhanced, but… no.
That was raw.”
The female professor from before—the one who hadn’t judged him—spoke softly.
“…That boy’s trained in silence.”
The Headmaster, Galric Sorn, rested his chin on his hand.
“Summon his profile.”
A shimmering screen floated before him.
Aeron Blackthorn.
Noble bloodline.
Once engaged to Princess Selene Rindell.
Public record—Magicless.
Galric’s eyes narrowed.
“…Update that record.”
As Aeron stepped off the dueling field, the trial concluded.
Several applicants were escorted away, others cheered, one wept after fainting mid-test.
But all eyes kept flicking back to one figure.
Not the loudest.
Not the flashiest.
Just the one who had ended a duel in two spells—without raising his voice.
System Notification

Relationship Shift: Several faculty members – “Curious”
From the high terrace, Headmaster Sorn turned to his assistant.
“Assign him to Dorm C—Eastern Courtyard.”
“Not A or B?” the assistant asked, surprised.
“No,” the Headmaster said.
“That Element…
‘Void’.
It’s potential is still unknown and there’s no track record left of anyone with Void element.
If he performs well, we can think of upgrading Dorms then.”
“And his professors?”
“Select those who’ll observe, not interfere.”
He closed the screen.
“Blackthorn’s not done yet.
Maybe we will see some big changes soon.”
