The cooperation was established. Leon's goal was crystalline in its clarity; while medicine and food were immediate necessities for the team's survival, the deeper motive was the mission itself. The Vatos Gang and their sanctuary were pieces to be moved on a future chessboard—a force that could be integrated. Furthermore, the supply-laden warehouse held a high probability of triggering a System Check-in, a gamble that promised unexpected rewards. This was a deal, but more importantly, it was an investment.
"Let's go get your things first," Leon said, turning to Rick. The first step of the operation was to arm themselves. Led by Guillermo and his core subordinates, the group traversed the darkened corridors once more, but this time they moved as allies. The gang members stepped aside, their gazes a cocktail of awe and curiosity. Outside, the streets remained deathly silent, the few wandering walkers encountered being dealt with by the silent lethality of Daryl's crossbow.
Under Leon's vigilant cover, Rick reached behind a dumpster on a desolate street corner and dragged out a heavy canvas bag. The sound of the zipper echoed sharply in the stillness. Inside lay a Colt Python, a Remington shotgun, several Glocks, and a wealth of spare magazines. As the cold weight of the steel returned to his hand, Rick's aura shifted; the composure of a seasoned sheriff returned to him. He tossed a shotgun to T-Dog and distributed seven hundred rounds of ammunition.
The sudden influx of firepower acted as a tonic for the team's morale. Even Glenn straightened his back, the chronic tension in his face beginning to dissipate. The Vatos Gang members watched with deepening respect; their own small-caliber pistols and homemade weapons paled in comparison to this professional arsenal. "Let's go," Rick said, racking the slide of his weapon with a low, powerful click.
Guided by the gang, they arrived at a large supermarket four blocks away. The entrance was a rusty iron door at the rear of the building, leading into the subterranean depths. The air here was thick with the suffocating stench of decay and piled waste. "This is it," Guillermo whispered, his expression grim. "This is where we lost two brothers last time."
Leon didn't respond immediately. He stood before the entrance, his eyes narrowing as he activated his Hawkeye Vision. The world drained of color, replaced by a deep, analytical blue. He saw the staircase and the vast space below. Red dots moved slowly—ten, thirty, fifty. They were concentrated in the front, but deep in the shadows of the shelves, he spotted a darker, bloated red outline bound by golden lines of iron chains. Beside it sat a gas tank, glowing with a faint, tactical gold.
"I need absolute silence," Leon commanded, his voice pulling everyone into focus. He began assigning roles with surgical precision. Daryl was to hold the entrance; Rick was assigned the left sector with his Python; Glenn and T-Dog were to provide rear cover and block the right passage with shotguns. The Vatos men were ordered to stay outside and handle stragglers. Every word was precise and unquestionable.
Leon drew his Desert Eagle and descended the stairs first. The warehouse was a tomb of rotting air and the dragging footsteps of the undead. In the darkness, the battle began with the faint pfft of a blade. A walker fell, a bolt between its eyes. "Three on the left," Leon called out. The roar of Rick's Colt Python followed, shattering the lead walker's skull.
The warehouse became a symphony of slaughter. Rick fired with clean, rhythmic precision; T-Dog's shotgun spat fire, the kinetic energy liquefying the upper body of a lunging corpse. Leon acted as the conductor, calling out targets and reloads before the threats could even manifest. To the Vatos Gang watching from the doorway, it was a display of professional efficiency they had never imagined possible. The walkers fell like wheat before a scythe.
They moved deeper where the shelves grew taller and the light grew dim. Suddenly, a dull, powerful roar—distinctly heavier than a standard walker—erupted from the back. The sound of snapping metal chains and collapsing shelves heralded a massive, bloated figure. This creature was a size larger than any they had seen, its bluish-gray skin covered in pustules, its belly swollen like a giant ball of flesh.
Panic flared as a gang member sprayed bullets that did nothing but kick up small sprays of blood against the monster's thick hide. The creature lunged toward Glenn. "Get down!" Leon's voice cut through the terror like a blade of ice. Rick and Daryl hit the floor instantly. Leon remained standing, his silver Desert Eagle raised with absolute stability.
In his Hawkeye Vision, the gas tank behind the beast was the only target that mattered. Time seemed to dilate. He saw the terror on Glenn's face and the rotting features of the monster. He pulled the trigger. The bullet didn't hit the walker; it grazed its side and struck the metal tank with a sharp ting. An orange-red fireball erupted, engulfing the creature and shaking the very foundations of the warehouse.
When the smoke cleared, only a charred crater and fragments of flesh remained. A dead silence fell over the room. Guillermo, face covered in soot, stared at Leon in total disbelief. The crisis was over. The group moved quickly to harvest the bounty: cases of canned goods, bottled water, and a pharmacy brimming with heart medication, insulin, and antibiotics. Guillermo, moved to tears by the haul, insisted Leon's team take the first pick.
As they prepared to return to the nursing home with a truck full of supplies, Guillermo pulled Leon aside. "Mr. Leon," he said, his voice heavy with gratitude. "This morning, I saw someone nearby. A white man, missing a hand wrapped in cloth. He hijacked a beat-up muscle car." Daryl's body went rigid at the description. "Which way?" he rasped. Guillermo pointed with certainty. "West side. He was fleeing toward the west side of the city."
