“Clang—clang—”
The grating sound of iron chains dragging across the ground pierced Shen Shuangshuang’s ears like steel needles.
She suddenly lowered her head and saw that she was wearing a coarse hemp prison uniform. Rusted shackles bound both her hands and feet, rubbing her wrists and ankles raw with bloody blisters.
“Move! What are you dawdling for!”
A guard behind her kicked her hard in the lower back. The force made her stumble forward and fall onto the gravel road, her palms cut open and bleeding.
“Sir, have mercy! I’m innocent!”
Beside her, an old woman knelt on the ground wailing and begging for mercy, only to be struck across the back by another guard’s whip. With a sharp crack, the rough cloth split open instantly, leaving a bloody gash.
Only then did Shen Shuangshuang notice that the entire road was filled with prisoners dragging their families along—men, women, old people, and children. Every one of them looked sallow and emaciated, dressed in ragged clothes.
In the distance, a mansion burned fiercely. On the plaque above the gate, the two large characters “Shen Residence” twisted and warped in the flames.
“Your house has been confiscated and you’re being exiled, yet you still dare cry injustice?” The guard who had kicked her spat and lashed the whip mercilessly across her back. “Relatives of corrupt officials like you deserve this suffering!”
A wave of intense pain struck. Shen Shuangshuang’s vision went dark, but then she heard an even more terrifying sound—the thunderous roar of rushing floodwaters.
She looked up.
At the distant horizon, murky waves towered like a massive wall crashing forward.
Wherever it passed, houses collapsed instantly. Cries and screams were swallowed by the roar of the torrent.
“Water! It’s a flood!” someone shouted as they turned to run, but the iron chains dragged them down. In the next moment, they were swallowed by the surging waves.
The icy water quickly rose past Shen Shuangshuang’s ankles. She struggled desperately, but another lash from a guard’s whip struck her neck. Her vision instantly turned blood-red.
At that moment, she suddenly choked on a mouthful of water—
“Cough! Cough! Cough!”
Shen Shuangshuang coughed violently as she opened her eyes. Warm water slid down her cheeks, and the scent of lavender essential oil lingered at the tip of her nose.
She froze for a moment before realizing she was soaking in the massage bathtub of her own bathroom. Several rose petals floated on the water’s surface.
Everything just now had been a nightmare.
“That scared me to death.”
She pressed a hand against her throbbing temple and let out a long breath.
As the president of the Shen Group, she had stayed up for three consecutive nights negotiating a merger. She must have been so exhausted that she hallucinated such an absurd dream.
On the shelf beside the bathtub sat a half-finished glass of red wine. The crystal goblet glimmered under the warm light.
Shen Shuangshuang pushed herself up by the edge of the tub. Just as her foot touched the anti-slip mat, it suddenly slipped for some reason, and her body fell heavily backward.
Bang!
Her back slammed against the edge of the bathtub, making her suck in a sharp breath from the pain.
Worse still, the shelf shook from the impact. The wine glass fell to the marble floor with a clatter, shattering instantly into several sharp pieces.
Fragments of glass flew everywhere, and one shard grazed her neck.
Shen Shuangshuang reached up to touch it. Her fingertips immediately came away with warm blood, which slid down the curve of her neck and dripped onto the four-leaf clover necklace resting on her chest.
It had been a gift from her mother on her eighteenth birthday. Each of the four leaves was made of fine emerald jade, strung on a platinum chain. She had worn it for ten years without ever taking it off.
The drop of blood landed on the emerald, as if absorbed by it, quickly seeping inside.
“Damn it.”
Shen Shuangshuang frowned and tried to push herself up from the ground, but her fingertips accidentally brushed the leaf of the necklace.
The moment she touched it, an intense dizziness struck.
The world spun violently—ten times worse than when she had fallen earlier. Her vision went black, and she completely lost consciousness.
When she opened her eyes again, her nose was filled with the fresh scent of soil and crops.
Shen Shuangshuang sat up in confusion.
She found herself sitting in the middle of a wheat field. Golden wheat stalks rose past her knees, swaying gently in the wind.
She looked down at herself.
She was still wearing the silk bathrobe from her bath, and her feet were bare.
“Where is this?”
She was stunned.
Her bathroom was in a top-floor duplex in the city center, surrounded by skyscrapers. How could such a vast wheat field suddenly appear?
She stood up and walked forward a few steps, only then realizing that this field didn’t only grow wheat.
In the ridges beside it were lush green vegetables. Cucumbers hung heavily from the vines, and tomatoes glowed bright red.
Farther away, there was even a medicinal herb field. The scents of mint and licorice drifted in the breeze.
She could even see several ginseng plants whose leaves spread like palms, thicker than any she had seen in herbal markets.
“Whose vegetable garden is this exaggerated? And it’s planted with everything!”
Shen Shuangshuang walked along the field ridge. The more she walked, the stranger it felt.
The place stretched endlessly as far as the eye could see. Aside from crops, there wasn’t a single person around. It was so quiet that the only sound was the wind rippling through the wheat.
She suddenly remembered the dizziness earlier—and the wound on her neck.
“Wasn’t I in the bathroom after falling? How did I end up here?”
The moment the thought of the bathroom crossed her mind, the familiar dizziness struck again.
This time Shen Shuangshuang was prepared. She closed her eyes tightly and grabbed a nearby wheat stalk for support. When the discomfort passed, she opened her eyes.
Sure enough, she was back in her bathroom.
The glass shards were still on the floor. The wound on her neck still throbbed faintly. But the bloodstain on the necklace had disappeared.
Only the emerald leaf on the left had somehow turned dark red.
Shen Shuangshuang stared at the necklace for three seconds before suddenly realizing something.
What she experienced earlier wasn’t an illusion!
As someone who often hid in the office slacking off while reading novels, she had read plenty of space novels.
The plot where the protagonist recognizes a space with a drop of blood was exactly the same as what had just happened to her!
“No way…”
Her heartbeat sped up instantly as she cautiously muttered in her mind:
“Go to the wheat field.”
After the dizzying spin, she was truly standing once again in the golden waves of wheat.
“Come back!”
The moment the thought appeared, she returned to the bathroom the next second.
Shen Shuangshuang tested it back and forth five or six times. From initial nervousness to excitement, she eventually placed her hands on her hips and burst into laughter.
“President Shen, President Shen… what kind of crazy luck did you stumble upon? You actually unlocked a golden cheat!”
After the excitement faded, she calmed down.
In space novels there was always a carrier—either a jade pendant or a ring. What was the carrier of her space?
The only unusual thing earlier was that the necklace had been stained with blood.
She took the necklace off and examined it carefully.
Originally, the four leaves were the same deep green color. Now the one on the left had turned dark red, resembling the color of her blood, while the other three remained unchanged.
“The left leaf corresponds to the wheat field… then what about the other three?”
Her eyes lit up.
“Could it be that each leaf is an independent space?”
She remembered the wound on her neck was still bleeding.
So she brought the necklace close to it, letting droplets of blood fall onto the other three emerald leaves.
Something miraculous happened.
