Kael

It is two o’clock in the fucking morning when my phone rings.

Ian’s name flashes on the screen, and a pit forms in my stomach.Full novel: Three Rejections Before Becoming the Alpha King’s Obsession — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

I had asked him and Ethan to keep an eye on Lilith while I am gone, but I didn’t actually expect them to call me with trouble.

I swear if he is calling me for anything other than Lilith, I will probably kill him myself when I get back.

“This better be important,” I growl.

“Remember how you asked me to keep an eye on your little house guest,” he chuckles.

“Watch the video I just sent you.”

”Can’t you just tell me what is going on?”

He laughs again.

“You wouldn’t believe me.”

I disconnect the call and watch the video.

He’s right, I wouldn’t have believed him.

I have to watch the video not once, not twice, but three times to fully grasp what I am seeing.

My sweet Lily, or maybe not so sweet, and an unknown she-wolf are taking on a group of drunken idiots in a dive bar.

Not only did they take them on and whip their asses, while the men were struggling on the floor, Lily and her friend forced them to drink.

I watch with both pride and shock as Lily straddles her aggressor, pinches his cheeks, and forces liquor down his throat.

“What the fuck did I just watch?

And why the fuck did Ian just sit back and let her handle it herself?”

Luca growls in my chest angrily.

He is worried about Lilith, and honestly, I am too.

Instead, of calling Ian back and giving him a piece of my mind, I call Lily.

The phone rings a few times before she picks it up, but she keeps the video off.

“Hey,” she mutters through the speaker.

“I was just…”

”Why isn’t your camera on?” I cut her off.

“No reason,” she chirps falsely.

“What did you do tonight?”

”Nothing much,” she lies.

“Just hung out with a friend.”

”At a dive bar, where you kicked the asses of a bunch of werewolves, and then forced them to drink themselves stupid?”

I can almost feel her mouth drop open in shock before she speaks. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

“Which one told you?”

”It doesn’t matter who told me,” I grunt.

“Is there any reason why you are kicking ass and taking names?”

She sighs heavily.

“It’s stupid.

It won’t happen again.”

”Lily, I am not mad at you.

I just need to know who I am going to kill when I get back into town.”

”No one,” she laughs.

“What is it with you and wanting to kill everyone that crosses my path?”

I bristle at the comment, but I don’t respond because I don’t have an answer that I can give her.

The truth is, I don’t like people touching or disrespecting what is mine, and that is exactly what Lily is.

Mine.

But, I don’t think she is ready to hear that yet, so I change the subject.

“Turn on your camera,” I order.

“I want to see your pretty face.”

”Kael,” she groans.

“It is late.

I just want to go to sleep.”

”Not until you turn on your camera,” I command her.

“And if I hang up on you?”

”Then I will keep calling until you answer.”

She scoffs loudly.

“What if I block your number?”

”Don’t tempt me, Lily.

You won’t like the punishment you receive, but I can most certainly guarantee that I will.”

Her breath catches at my threat, but she isn’t scared.

No, my little flower is turned on, and perhaps it is time to stoke the flames between us a little more.

“Now, be a good girl and turn on your camera.”

There is a long pause, but eventually she relents.

Her beautiful face fills my phone’s screen, and I curse out loud.

“Gods,” I growl.

“You look like hell.”

She rolls her eyes in a way that makes my cock hard, but I can’t think with that head, not right now.

My beautiful flower’s face is bruised and cut.

I guess I was so captivated by watching the fight that I missed how many punches she took.

The longer I look at her face, the angrier I get.

“It will heal eventually.”

I study the screen without speaking, making a mental note of every bruise and cut so I can replicate them on whoever did this to her.

Then, after I destroy their fucking face, I will gut them for hurting her.

I will pull out their intestines while they are still alive and then shove them down their fucking throat.

“Say something,” she whispers.

I push away my anger.

“That spot above your eye looks like it needs stitches.

I am going to send Ian to the house.”

”Please,” she begs.

“It’s not that bad.”

”This isn’t a debate, Lilith.” She cringes when I use her full name.

“He will be there shortly.”

”Fine,” she replies before ending the call.

Quickly, I call Ian.

“I am already on my way,” he says as soon as he answers the phone.

“I should kick your ass,” I growl at him.

“How could you let her fight alone?”

”She seemed to have it covered.

Plus, she had that dark-haired beauty on her side.”

”Fix her fucking eye,” I snarl, “and if she scars, you can bet that you will have a matching one.”

He grunts in return.

“I am the best doctor, she won’t scar.”

”I mean it, Ian.

If there is even a hint of a scar on her face…”

”You will give me a matching one,” he interrupts.

“I have never seen you care about anyone this much.

Not even your mother.

Is this little she-wolf your mate?”

Luca’s ears perk up at the word, but I push him back down before he can get too excited.

“Just do your job, Ian.”

I can hear him laughing as I end the call.

I am supposed to be on the outskirts of the Redclaw Pack for another day, but I can’t stay here another minute.

I need to get home to Lily.
