“Can you forgive me?” Fang Jiajun asked softly, looking at her with gentle eyes.
She sighed silently. “I didn’t blame you.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
He was delighted, his handsome face breaking into a hearty smile, momentarily looking a bit childish, reminding her again of Zhihuan.
“Then go ahead and eat! These dishes were specially prepared by the chef for you. See if they taste good?” He eagerly tried to please her.
She smiled, picked up her knife and fork, and tasted each dish. “Very delicious!” The exquisite flavors evoked a soft hum of pleasure from her.
He was even happier, enjoying his meal with her while carefully steering the conversation to maintain a cheerful and harmonious atmosphere.
After the meal, desserts were served. She tasted the ice cream, her tongue licking her lips, inadvertently revealing a hint of allure.
He stared at her blankly, his eyes suddenly deepening.
She raised her feathered eyelashes, meeting his gaze. Quickly, she understood the meaning behind that look— it was a man’s most primal desire for a woman.
Her heart skipped a beat, but only for a moment. Instantly, she regained her composure.
“Feifei, do you like me?” he asked straightforwardly, aggressively pushing forward.
She calmly defended herself and nodded.
“You’ve considered marrying me, right?”
“… Yes.”
“Then why didn’t you agree to my proposal that day? Because of your ex-husband?”
“He’s not yet my ex-husband… We haven’t divorced.”
“Not yet divorced?” Fang Jiajun was shocked, a flash of darkness crossing his eyes. “Why? I thought you were planning to divorce him.”
“I did plan to, but…”
“But what?”
“I just need a little more time.”
“Are you comparing us?”
“Comparing?”
“Are you thinking about which one of us is more suitable for you, who can truly bring you happiness, right?”
Was she comparing?
Qi Feifei looked bewilderedly at Fang Jiajun.
He seemed hurt, yet there was also a hint of anger in him. As such a proud man, had he never been a contender in a woman’s heart? He should always be the eternal first choice.
“If it’s not because you’re comparing, why did you hesitate as soon as he returned to Taiwan? Dare you say you haven’t thought about marrying me? Do my qualities not surpass his? I’ve investigated him; he’s just a management consultant, even if he’s capable, he’s ultimately just a salaried worker, while in my family, as you should know, just the shares I will inherit are worth billions.”
“Mm, I know.” In terms of family background, he indeed surpasses Zhihuan by a lot.
“My appearance is not inferior to his either. Am I not handsome enough? Not charming enough? Do you know how many women are lining up to date me? As long as I make a call, they would automatically lie down in bed waiting for me!”
What an arrogant statement!
But that’s him. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
Qi Feifei smiled faintly in a daze. Perhaps Zhihuan would say the same things; they were both men who had no doubt about their charm.
“To be honest, I don’t understand what you’re hesitating about. What I can offer you is definitely much more than what Zhihuan can. If he can give you a country, then what I can give you is the whole world! Even if you want me to book a rocket and take you on a moon tour, I can do it, you know?”
“Mm, I know.”
“Then tell me, what aspect do I fall short compared to him?”
“None, there’s nothing about you that falls short compared to him.”
“If that’s the case, then why can’t it be me?” Fang Jiajun frowned. “You’ve considered marrying me before; doesn’t that mean you believe I can bring you happiness? Isn’t it because you love me?”
Love? Happiness? Is that so?
Qi Feifei realized she was trembling. Did she decide to settle down with Jiajun because of love and happiness? Thinking back carefully to her considerations at the time, it seemed she had never really thought about these two conditions.
She stared at him, looking at this handsome and outstanding man… No, she had never thought about love and happiness with him. She just… didn’t want to be lonely anymore.
She had had enough of a solitary life, tasted enough of the bitterness of being alone. She just wanted someone to rely on, someone who would give her a warm smile when she came home, someone who would leave a light on for her.
That was all.
Thinking of this, she suddenly felt a strong self-loathing.
“How could she be so selfish, thinking only of using a man?”
She hurriedly got up. “Jiajun, it’s late. Shall we go? I want to go home.”
“Home?” Fang Jiajun was annoyed. “Why suddenly in a hurry to go back? Is it because that man is waiting for you at home?”
It’s not like that, it’s just that she was ashamed to face him.
“Shall we go?” She needed time and space to sort out her chaotic emotions, needed to figure out what to say so as not to hurt him. “Another day, let me treat you to dinner another day.”
She insisted on leaving, and he couldn’t do anything about it. He settled the bill, drove her, but halfway there, the more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and he slammed on the brakes.
She wasn’t prepared for the rearward force, and her body leaned forward, nearly injuring herself.
“What’s wrong?” She looked at him anxiously.
“You must explain everything to me today!” he stared coldly at her. “Qi Feifei, I’m not someone you can play with. I demand an explanation!”
What did he want her to explain? She bit her lip. “I’m really sorry, Jiajun, but I…”
“What about you?” he snapped angrily.
She took a deep breath. “I can’t accept your proposal.”
“What?!” He was shocked, unable to believe this answer.
She looked him in the eye. If hurt was inevitable, she could only hope that being honest would make it easier for him. “I’m sorry, but I think we’re not suitable.”
“We’re not suitable? Is that your reason for me? Unsuitable?!” He shouted in frustration, pounding the steering wheel with clenched fists.
“Your qualities are very good, really, I believe any woman seeing you would find it hard not to be attracted to you.”
“Then why did you choose him over me?!”
She remained silent.
She didn’t know what to say, she could only apologize repeatedly. “I’m sorry, Jiajun, I’m really sorry.”
Fang Jiajun glared at her, feeling his male dignity had been seriously trampled upon. Full of indignation, “Get out of the car!” he ordered sharply.
She was stunned. “What did you say?”
“I want you to get out of the car! I can’t stand another minute with you!”
Without waiting for her response, he opened the car door.
She didn’t resist, unbuckled her seatbelt, and silently got out. He immediately stepped on the gas pedal and drove away at full speed.
She stared blankly at the fleeting shadow of the car, feeling embarrassed and helpless.
He actually left her in such a place, in such a quiet late night, leaving her alone on this eerie mountain road.
Qi Feifei chuckled bitterly. What should she do now?
The mountain road was desolate, with no cars in sight for a long time. Moreover, it was dangerous for a woman to get into a stranger’s car at this late hour.
Should she call Zhihuan to pick her up?
Thinking about it, she took out her phone from her purse and pressed the speed dial button, but all she heard was a busy tone. She frowned and dialed again, still busy.
What should she do?
She had no choice but to walk for a while by herself, planning to call him again later.
But just as she took a few steps, she heard a strange sound behind her. She immediately became alert, listening carefully, and found that as she sped up, the other person sped up; as she slowed down, the other person also slowed down.
Was someone following her? Was it a bad person?
She shuddered, her heart racing, sweating in her palms, and quickly dialed her phone again.
Please answer the phone quickly, Zhihuan, please answer the phone! Please answer the phone—”
Meanwhile, Xing Zhihuan was dealing with business at the company. Having just finished an international call, he was about to call the woman who had been on his mind all evening when another woman suddenly appeared before him.
He was stunned. “Jennifer?”
The person who came was a foreign beauty, her deep red hair waving in large waves, her emerald eyes like lakes, making her already enchanting face even more attractive.
“How did you come to Taiwan?” he asked her in English.
“The company sent me on a business trip, and I heard you were here, so I came.” She smiled and walked towards him, leaning in to lightly kiss his cheek. “Long time no see, how have you been?”
“Not bad,” he smiled back at her.
“Then how about having a drink together? I just finished dealing with a very annoying client and was thinking of finding someone to chat with and relax.”
“What? Even this workaholic like you has times when you lose motivation?” he teased.
She pouted her lips, clinging to his arm, playfully poking his cheek with her fingers. “Sean, you’re so bad! Knowing that I’m being so thoroughly used by the boss, you still tease me like this?”
“Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Let’s go have a drink. I’ll take you to a great restaurant.”
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing Taipei’s nightlife! Don’t disappoint me.”
“I won’t, I promise you’ll like it.”
They chatted and laughed, hand in hand, completely unaware that he had accidentally left his phone on the desk in the office.
