”Why is it that only humans are the ones meant to be slaughtered and eaten?”

Kenji’s brows furrowed deeply as he scrolled through videos on his phone while it charged.

The video playing was from Darwin’s Incident, an anime that had been trending heavily recently.Full novel: Tokyo Ghoul: I, the Heavenly Restriction, Will Tear Tokyo Apart! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Looking at the grotesque, human-humanoid ape creature on the screen, Kenji tapped open the comment section.

Unsurprisingly, it was a unified wall of condemnation.

”What kind of brain-dead nonsense is this?

A human-beast hybrid actually dares to say something like that?”

”The author is truly a piece of work.

Creating something this absurd under the guise of promoting the idea that ‘humans shouldn’t lord over other species,’ when in reality, they’re just feeding us garbage!”

”Enjoying all the benefits of being human while standing on a moral high ground to criticize humanity and act like a saint.

Absolutely sickening!”

”Damn it, as humans, didn’t we become the dominant species on Earth through our own efforts?

Have we never given other species a chance?

What is this idiot monkey even talking about?”

”Later on, he even calls his biological mother a ‘biological mom’ like she’s just a breeding vessel—how does this thing even claim to be human?

If this creature existed in real life, I’d be the first to slaughter it!”

Watching the furious comments, Kenji nodded in silent agreement.

These sentiments aligned perfectly with his own thoughts.

Click.

Lighting up a soft-pack Huanghelou cigarette, Kenji took a deep drag, holding the smoke for a long moment before slowly exhaling a cloud of white mist.

He kept watching.

When he saw that this wretched monkey had actually entered a romantic and intimate relationship with a pure-blooded human woman, a wave of intense disgust washed over him.

”Damn it!

What a brain-dead plot!”

But what truly broke his patience came right after.

The monkey actually apologized to his girlfriend, and for the most absurd reason possible.

”I’m sorry about last night…”

”Why are you apologizing?

Consummating our relationship was my choice!”

”But…

I’m the one who feels regret.”

Seeing this scene, Kenji’s lip twitched.

He desperately wished he could exchange his eyes for a pair that hadn’t witnessed such a bizarre, stomach-turning plot line.

Checking the time, Kenji realized he had unknowingly scrolled until 2:30 AM.

Rubbing his tired eyes, he reached out to unplug the charging cable, but his hand accidentally knocked over the water cup sitting on his nightstand.

Zzzt!

Zzzt!

In an instant, water flooded into the power strip.

Sparks flew everywhere, and Kenji’s body locked up violently.

Right before losing consciousness, only two thoughts flashed through his mind:

”Watching clips before bed,

Charging while playing instead,

Watch out for fires ahead.”

(Dear readers, please do not use your phone while it is charging; it poses a serious safety hazard!)

”It’s a pity I never ran into that damn monkey.

Otherwise, I would have beaten him to death with a single punch!”

Tokyo, District 5, Bunkyo Ward.

Night.

A light drizzle.

An alleyway by the street.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The rainwater, carrying the distinct, metallic scent of damp earth, pattered against Kenji’s face, causing his eyelids to twitch slightly.

In the depths of the alley, a dim yellow streetlamp flickered intermittently, surrounded by a few moths fluttering blindly around the buzzing bulb.

Suddenly, a heavy, squelching sound echoed from a distance, sounding like bare feet stepping into puddles of wet mud.

A dark silhouette gradually approached, stopping dead in its tracks.

”This…

this is meat…

it’s meat!”

”I can’t mistake this scent!

It’s definitely human flesh!”

”It’s not dead meat!

It’s alive!

A male!

Around 25 years old!”

”Such a vibrant aura!

Just smelling it makes my body tremble.

Ahhhh!

I want meat!”

Following those words, the previously slow squelching pace instantly accelerated, accompanied by the sharp splashing of water being forcefully trampled.

Within a mere two breaths, a short, emaciated, hollow-eyed, and gaunt middle-aged man arrived right in front of the unconscious Kenji.

Unlike a normal human, this man’s eyes possessed crimson irises set against pitch-black sclera, looking incredibly eerie.

The moment he saw Kenji, the middle-aged man’s pupils contracted violently.

He lunged forward, hovering over Kenji’s body, and took a massive, greedy sniff.

”Ahhh~”

Seeing Kenji’s robust chest rising and falling slightly with his breath, the man’s mouth began to involuntarily salivate.

The drool pooled rapidly, and before long, long strings of saliva began to drip onto Kenji’s clothes.

”A human!

I finally encountered a living human!

And a muscular one at that!”

”I haven’t tasted a living human in a whole six months!”

”I should start from the face!

The meat on the face is the tenderest!

The skin tears right off!”

”No!

The neck is the best part!

One gentle bite and it’ll be filled with boiling blood!

How long has it been since I’ve drunk fresh human blood?!”

The middle-aged man licked his lips and swallowed hard, muttering frantically to himself while his eyes remained locked onto Kenji’s body.

At the same time, his hands trembled above Kenji, like a starving man who had found a delicacy but didn’t know where to take the first bite.

Meanwhile, Kenji, who had been unconscious, heard the noisy, chaotic whispering ringing in his ears.

Feeling the cold sensation of rainwater on his face, he slowly opened his eyes.

”Where is this?

I’m not dead?”

Having just woken up, Kenji’s mind was still somewhat dazed.

His memory was stuck at the moment he reached for his phone charger.

[Ding!

Detected that the host has awakened.

The Multiverse Cleansing System is at your service!]

[Ding!

Detected that the host has successfully transmigrated into the world of Tokyo Ghoul.

The language module has been loaded; the host automatically understands the current world’s language!]

[The Multiverse Cleansing System aims to eradicate any species or monsters that feed on humans.

Currently, the host must successfully cleanse one world before the next world can be unlocked!]

[The host will receive rewards for killing any man-eating species or monsters.

Killing major story characters or powerful entities will plunder the World Force, granting even richer rewards!]

[Detected that the host is currently in a life-threatening situation.

Please kill the threat to complete the initial trial.

If the trial fails, the system will automatically detach!]

Hearing the mechanical, ringing notifications in his mind, Kenji was momentarily stunned.

What in the world?

Transmigration?

Tokyo Ghoul?

And a system?

As for the initial trial the system just mentioned…

Kenji looked at the middle-aged man hovering mere inches away from him, sporting a manic, ecstatic expression.

His brows furrowed.

The way this man was looking at him was entirely wrong.

It was the look of someone staring at a prime piece of meat.

And he loathed being viewed as food!

”You’re awake?

Hahaha!

You really woke up at the worst time!

You could have been eaten by me without knowing a thing, but now you’ll have to endure so much more pain!”

Hearing the man’s words, Kenji’s gaze instantly turned freezing cold, causing the ambient temperature around them to plummet.

Though he didn’t know how he had ended up inside this anime world that had been wildly popular a few years ago, it didn’t stop him from wanting to tear the piece of filth in front of him to shreds right now!

BOOM!

Crack!

Faster than the eye could follow.

With a heavy, muffled impact, Kenji’s fist slammed violently into the man’s jaw.

The man clearly hadn’t expected Kenji’s reaction to be so explosive and rapid, leaving him completely unable to defend himself.

He was sent rolling backward.

”You!

You lowest-class piece of food actually dares to hit me?!”

Hearing the middle-aged man’s screech, Kenji’s eyes remained icy as he slowly stood up.

It was only then that the middle-aged man got a clear look at Kenji’s physique, and he froze.

Standing at 185 cm (6’1″), Kenji possessed an explosive musculature that stretched his black short-sleeved shirt to its absolute limits, paired with simple white trousers.

He stood in stark, towering contrast to the ghoul’s own hunched, scrawny frame.

But what truly unsettled the ghoul was Kenji’s gaze.

It was a pair of dead, expressionless eyes.

It looked exactly as though…

he were looking at a corpse.

That gaze made every hair on the ghoul’s body stand on end, as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head.

”Are you kidding me?!

I’m actually being intimidated by my own food?!”
