The full moon question echoed around the group like a curse. They glanced at one another while passing around snacks from Killian’s bag, the simple food providing a small distraction from the growing tension.
Lamia spoke up again. Noah had come to realize through their conversations that the boy was annoyingly smart, quick to connect dots others missed. "Tonight is the first full moon of the month—a perfect moment for us moon affinity users to reach our most powerful selves." That explained his knowledge, but it raised another question: why had Noah asked about it specifically?
"What happened with the full moon? Are you also a moon affinity user?" Lamia asked, shaking his head. Noah wasn’t sure himself. The dream figure had specifically told him to wait for the full moon. But how could he trust that the entity wouldn’t harm him or try to kill him? Its aura screamed danger, and Noah had always made his own survival a top priority.
"I’m not sure, but something dangerous is going to happen tonight. I don’t think anyone is ready for it." His answer made Killian’s brow rise sharply.
"Because of what? How did you reach that realization? Nothing comes out of nowhere." Damn it. Noah had forgotten he was dealing with sharp-minded people. He couldn’t dance around the truth easily, especially not with the alphas listening. He caught Rose’s subtle wink and sigh—she was warning him not to reveal too many details because of Killian and Eugene. Noah sighed too, adjusting his plan on the spot.
"Something is coming for me, and I can’t go into full details because I’m bound not to. But I feel like the students of this school aren’t safe tonight." His words made everyone straighten up immediately.
"But that’s impossible," Rose countered. "This school is severely secured by magical defenses, layered wards, and deadly supernatural weapons. Nothing can attack us while the building stands." Noah hadn’t expected doubt from her of all people.
"I know what I’m saying. An evil aura is around us—I can feel it deep inside. Tonight won’t be like other nights." The conversation wasn’t progressing much. Lamia glanced toward the window and delivered his own observation.
"If we’re going to do something, it better be fast. Unfortunately, it’s already night time." They all rushed to the window. Sure enough, darkness had fallen outside. The moon was rising, not yet fully out but glowing with promise on the horizon.
They gathered their things and walked out of the detention room. "Seems like we’re done with detention for today," Eugene said with a grin. For a situation that might involve real danger, neither he nor Killian seemed particularly worried. It was almost like they treated threats as routine occurrences.
"How prepared are we if danger actually breaks out?" Noah asked. Rose and Lamia exchanged glances before Rose answered honestly.
"Useless, I must say. Battle magic only started this semester, and we haven’t covered much yet. If real danger hits, we might lose badly." Noah facepalmed at how unprepared the academy seemed. In a supernatural world where authorities claimed to prepare students for future battles, they hadn’t even taught proper defense magic. What exactly had they been focusing on all this time?
"But this might not be a big deal. Nothing might happen, so why don’t we confirm first?" Eugene suggested calmly. Noah grew more frustrated. What if confirmation came too late? Students were still walking around in groups, heading back to dorms before lights out. The timing felt disastrous.
"We’re too young for this. I don’t think we can handle an issue this big," Lamia added, his voice shaky. It wasn’t surprising given how easily he spooked. When they stepped out of the main classroom building as a group, they spotted Abigail and Emily approaching with Sylvia in tow.
"Look at you guys. It seems you’re free from detention today—one more week to go." Sylvia stood with her arms crossed in a battle-ready stance, clearly trying to center attention on herself again. No one gave her the reaction she craved, treating her more like a plague they wanted to avoid.
"Baby, aren’t you going to hug me? Don’t you see I was injured and just came out from the special healing facility?" Sylvia directed her words at Eugene, but he looked away. Instead, he stepped up to Noah and took his hand.
"Let’s involve Damian and Marcus. I think they should know about this too." His sudden politeness surprised Noah. Weren’t these alphas constantly at odds? How was Eugene acting so cooperative all of a sudden?
"What is going on here? Why isn’t anyone looking at me?" Sylvia’s anger rose. She hated being ignored more than anything. Abigail and Emily moved closer, ready to back her up.
"She asked a question," one of them snapped. Lamia glared and scoffed.
"We don’t acknowledge flies." The sharp retort hit a nerve. The girls stiffened, shocked that the usually timid Lamia had grown some backbone. Before they could respond, Ms. Marie Langford walked up, her expression vicious.
"Return to your dorms now before I lose my patience." Her command barely landed before the sky began shifting dramatically. At that critical moment, the moon emerged fully, round and luminous, reaching its complete axis in the night sky.
"Oh shit, here we go," Noah muttered. He closed his eyes, praying his instincts were wrong and this would turn out to be a minor event. Then a massive earthquake shook the entire academy to its roots.
The ground heaved violently, sending cracks spider webbing across the paved paths. Students screamed as they lost balance, some tumbling to the ground while others grabbed onto walls or each other for support. The main building groaned under the strain, windows rattling and a few shattering from the force. Dust and debris rained down from higher floors, filling the air with a choking haze.
Note: Anything I mentioned note that they are connected to something going to happen in tht future love you all.
