“So, where is everyone else?” Alex said, he already knew the answer but he had to confirm it was just three kids here, Shim held his hands over his shoulder relaxing as he spoke;

“Ahhhh, it’s just us man… If anything I am surprised your here, it was just me and Cleo last year so that wasn’t fun. And if anything, we will probably be the only kids for at least another year, though I heard there is a kid outside of town on that hill…”

Alex lent over as he sighed, not only was he stuck in a church but he was also with two other children, 『 Aw, what am I meant to do?Full novel: Tower of Letters — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

A kid that lives outside of town on a hill, well that’s definitely me… And these two seem to be very close, and I am guessing there will be only one teacher, ah… 』 Alex was helpless, he had made this up to bigger then it was, putting that aside he swallowed his thoughts and spoke to shim;

“I am guessing there is only one teacher, right? Oh, also, I am that kid.. I live on the hill outside of town…” Shim looked back as he realizes who he was talking to the so called ‘gifted child’ was in front of him, he recalled how he had shaken his hand…

“Is something wrong?” Alex said looking a bit worried at Shim’s new face, 『 Is that shock?

Is it disgust?

』 Alex thought, seeing such an odd face on the boy.

Cleo who was behind Shim, had also looked slightly worried at Shim’s face Cleo placed his hands on Shim’s shoulders calming him down as best he could.

“Your…” Shim said breathlessly, almost falling into Cleo’s attempt to calm him down, “Your.” He repeated, his eyes shot back as he moved forwards,

“Your That Dam Miracle Child!” He yelled, but not in a rude-way.

If anything it was a swell on excitement that overtook him, his eyes sparkled looking at Alex, he grabbed his hand again shaking it immensely; “What can you do? Magic? Swords? Are you good with intelligence? What can you do, tell us!” Shim yelled in excitement, letting go of Alex’s hand he took a breath before calming down.

Alex was probably in more awe then Shim; 『 What the hell was that?

I was ready to get punched, but he is excited?

is with kids these days… And who is even calling me a miracle child?

』 Alex had to sigh again, 『 What is even happening this morning… 』 He scoffed in his mind, seeing both of them excited he said;

“I don’t know what your talking about… I am just Alex, I don’t know magic, I can barely pick up a sword, I guess I am quite smart, but that’s about it, no miracle’s…” Alex said shaking his head, but it was true, he couldn’t do anything as a child but he still remembered how to swing a blade, and as for magic he was useless.

Magic, though in some cases was useful, but it was entirely luck dependent on whether or not you could or couldn’t use it.

Plus, it was extremely rare and even harder to master, the average ‘magic’ user could only sprinkle some water, mean while the average wielder of a sword could go head to toe against a foe.

That being said, if you where good at magic, then you where super powerful, as magic scaled incredibly fast, but this was all he really remembered about magic from his past life.

“Mmmm,” Shim said looking at Alex, he spoke again looking closer into his eyes with a hand against his chin; “Mmm, you look like you are powerful though… Do you want Cleo to test you?” Cleo shivered as he heard his name, peering over Shim’s shoulder looking at Alex, he had looked deeply into Alex studying him like a book, coming to his conclusion he spoke still a little shyly;

“You, um.. Your mana, it’s very well, um, ah, regulated yes, it’s regulated well within your body.. That being said, your, um, gate looks broken or infected, Normally gates look bright white with a tint of your affinity if you have one…”

Cleo, gaining his words and confidence slowly walked closer to Alex leaving

Shim’s shoulder, he stepped closer eventually stopping right in front of Alex.

He then looked at him head to toe, thinking, Shim stepped closer now holding onto Cleo’s shoulder, such confidence from Cleo made Shim worry a little, Shim spoke;

“Hey, what’s wrong with him? What’s happening Cleo?” Alex was also on the same boat as Shim, before Cleo would barely look at him ad seemed very shy, and now he was staring right at Alex watching him like a hawk.

“What even are you?” Cleo exclaimed, as a look of disgust overtook Cleo’s eyes, “And why are you dead?”

』 Fear struck Cael’s face, 『 WHo EVeN IS THIS KID!

』 Cleo’s shyfull act was no longer, as he pressed Alex for answers Shim stepped in the way of the emotionless Cleo and the panicking Alex, Shim spoke;

“What are you on about? Alex isn’t dead, he is right here! Breathing, he isn’t dead Cleo,” Shim scolded Cleo, snapping back to reality Cleo hid behind Shim’s shoulders again this time he was even more exclusive and shy.

Alex calmed down seeing Cleo was no longer a weird threat, but the question still hung in the air ‘why are you dead?’ a shiver ran through his mind.

Alex took a breath in, calming himself down, it was his turn after all, so he questioned;

“What makes you think that?” Alex raised a hand to his neck feeling the pules running the blood up and down, then he slapped himself across the face lightly; “Ouch, that hurt… But I am not dreaming this either, so how am I dead? I look alive to me…”

Cleo’s eyes tightened, he lent into Shim’s shoulder, whispering something covering his mouth with his hand, Shim nodded hearing all of the information, he then spoke on behalf of Cleo;

“Um, he said that your gate is fully black, normally they are pure white with a tint if you have an affinity… Yours however is completely black, he says that is really rare and only happens if you are dead because your mana is recycled becoming like a black sludge,” Shim paused, as

Cleo whispered something else into his ear, then Shim continued;

“He said, that when you die your mana is recycled, this makes it black, but the gate is normally never effected from this black mana, so it remains white with a super small tint of black. But your mana is perfect and fine, he said it’s better mana then his own, but your gate is black, which is weird to him seeing your mana is okay and still moving. And the second reason he doesn’t want to tell you, he said it’s important he doesn’t spread that info as he will get kicked out of the library. That’s all he said to me, so I have no clue man, maybe you need a doctor or something, I can’t tell..”

Shim was staying kind, especially after that news, but that honestly didn’t scare Alex as much, thinking about everything that led to this moment he wasn’t to worried about a black gate.

And since his mana was fine, he honestly didn’t even care about it, Cleo then lent into Shim’s ear again.

“He says he wants to test your affinity, right now, he said if you can still use the mana or if you have an affinity then that may be fine considering your black gate. But he wants to test your magic, even if you can’t muster anything…”

『 Who the hell is this kid?

And why does he know so much about magic?

Also, WHERE IS THE TEACHER!?

』 Alex thought, taking a deep breath in.
